Oh yeah ...
Neverwinter Nights (1) until I found a player-guided custom-made pseudo-mmorpg server
and Dragon Age:Origins. Combat was tiresome for me (much like NWN2 but that was more interesting IME/O), linear story progression, over-promised yet almost-nonexistant replayability, etc. etc.

I tried it, got to level seven. I wanted to explore a new area and some fat giant thing chopped my ass off and handed it to me on a platter. After that I respawned then I jumped off a tall waterfall and got an achievement and went back to TES4.deathm00n wrote:Me neither, until I borrowed my friend's account. Re: I wish I never bought this!
My last two Bethesda-developed games, FO3 (Your right MM) and Skyrim.
In between them I purchased New Vegas (developed by Obsidian) and it really gave me that, my choices matter, I actually like my companions because of who they are-not their stats type craving I've been missing.
Recently I purchased Legend of Grimrock, it gave me that oldschool HARD feeling that didn't force me to gimp myself or give up the coolest items to still have a REALLY REALLY hard time. It was developed by Almost Human.
Together these two gems gave me everything that I found missing with the two Beth titles I mentioned(the reasons I had actually bought the games for actually, only to find them lacking) So I definitely regret buying at least two titles.

Re: I wish I never bought this!
Yes! FNV is so much better than Oblivion reskinned, I mean Fallout 3, and it's no wonder. Obsidian is made up of some of the key devs from Black Isle, so that's why FNV stays so true to the idea and feeling of Fallout 2. It's the real Fallout 3 really. Too bad about the name though. A lot of people think FNV is a mod or an expansion for FO3.
So FO3 is a typical "wish I never bought" from old Fallout fans. Two of my friends bought it before the word was out (before it was released even), but I got the word in time and saved my money for Warhammer Online's collector's edition.
So that's another regret - not WAR itself, I had enough fun with that, but the collector's edition that was supposed to give me beta access and a three day headstart. Well the beta access was two weeks at the most and the head start weekend was consumed by solving connection and account issues, so that was an extra €30 down the drain. I got a nice comic album and a metal figurine though.
Next down the list is my recent acquisition of Mass Effect. Now I've bought a good number of old games for around €5-10 that maybe wasn't excellent but at least delivered enough to cover the low cost. Just Cause 2, Diablo 2 and Far Cry comes to mind.
But Mass Effect didn't even cover the €5 I paid for it. It's been completely useless so far.

That's funny, I've barely played 2 hours of NV because it bored me to death, while I've got over 150 on Fallout 3.

Old World Blues gave me some serious blues. The "humor" was soooo bad, it was almost unbearable. The only raisin I had to play it was for achievements.Mars wrote:That's funny, I've barely played 2 hours of NV because it bored me to death, while I've got over 150 on Fallout 3.

I just played it because I did almost everything there was to do in 3 and wanted more. But yeah, to me it was deception.

Re: I wish I never bought this!
I can honestly say that while I did love NV, I preferred Fallout 3. It was my first Fallout Game, yeah, and I might be a little biased (even though I've played all 4 + Tactics by now), but to me there was just something special about it. I felt like I really had to fight to be where I was in the world. In NV, I felt like I got way too powerful, and way too rich, way too fast. I would have LOVED the Sierra Madre DLC for NV for the fact that it made me feel like I had to rely on only myself to win; but the trap placement and stuff were so cheap that it just sucked the fun out of it all for me.
So FO3 > FNV for me, but I do love them both. They each have something great about them.
Adding another game to my list of 'wish I never boughts'. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King for the Gameboy Advance. After how awesome the PS2 games were, how could the GBA games be bad?
Ha.

Re: I wish I never bought this!
I know it was a well received game and it looks like I might be alone on this one but, Heavy Rain is the only game I ever bought and returned the very next day. To be fair, I didn't give it much of a chance but it only took about ten minutes to decide it wasn't for me. Aside from that, I've not been too impressed by any new Shooter but I keep buying them every now and then in hopes to rekindle my love for Golden Eye, Halo, and Duke Nukem from back in the day, but I should just give it up.
... Looking back on Heavy Rain now, I may have been too harsh on it. I recently played The Walking Dead game and absolutely loved it, and I suspect they're both kinda similar in gameplay... eh, whatever.

Dead Island. I like zombies so I thought it would be great. Instead it was confusing and I lost interest right away when I had to choose a ready-made character. What's the fun in that? Lamest game purchase ever. Not even my husband finished playing it he got so bored.

AC3. Mainly because i paid full price for it and it's not worth £40. The set peices were mostly linear and Connor wasn't a very good character.
Need for speed:Undercover. It's not bad, it's not good. It's just NFS:Undercover. I just don't like it and wish that i had chosen another game as part of Game's 2 for £10 deal instead of that.

C&C 4: How to Ruin a Beloved Franchise Edition.
Prey, with its two hour single player experience.
Europa Universalis: Rome. There's this runaway, unstoppable inflation that accrues and eventually crushes your empire. Also, the first generation of leaders dies off too quickly and successive generations are low-stat, inbred, incompetent simpletons who are in no way fit to manage a troubled, sprawling empire.

This. Except I think it had more kinks than Fable 2.Musicman247 wrote:Have you ever bought a video game, then played it and wish you hadn't? Tell us your experiences!
I bought Fable 3 because I thought they would finally have all the kinks worked out and give a great RPG experience. I enjoyed the first playthrough most of the time, but after a while I decided it wasn't worth it. I kinda wish I had rented it.

Re: I wish I never bought this!
While I'm not well-versed in the ways of gaming (seriously; the only game that I've played and really enjoyed has been Skyrim -- I also quite like Oblivion.), most the games that I have tried out I haven't enjoyed. Fallout: New Vegas was incredibly boring, to me, but that may be because I just prefer the fantasy genre better. Dragon's Dogma. . . everything about it I didn't like. I really tried to like it but I didn't play for more than an hour after I figured out that I really, really didn't like it. I kind of wish I never bought Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, but I haven't played much of it and I feel like I may be able to give it another chance. It wasn't bad, but was no Skyrim.
I'm considering getting the Dragon Age games, because they sound great. Hopefully they don't wind up on my list of games that I regret.
