Suggestion: stolen items

Post by crimsonblade »

Stolen items really [&@%!] me off because whenever guards catch u with them and you pay the gold, they still take the items...

They should have done something like one of these suggestions:
1. Made it so u could pay a little bit more gold and allow u to keep the items... I'm talkin' maybe if u stole something worth 500, they would make u pay like 750.

2. Made it so that if u stole something u could give it back and have to pay maybe a quarter of the amount of gold value of what u stole.

3. Made it so that if u stole something without anyone seeing, u wouldn't get ANY BOUNTY AT ALL!!!

Just suggestions...

note: please feel free to make suggestions and opinion about my suggestions. :D

You already can steal without getting a bounty, -- if no one sees you. What you may not have noticed is that all the NPCs, especially shop owners, are programmed to follow you around within their establishment, no matter where you go. You can not hide...unless you get your sneak ability high enough, or combine it with good spells like chameleon.

You cannot steal using invisibility...if you interact with anything while invisible, you become visible. That includes opening doors. Only chameleon allows you that ability, but that is why chameleon is only a partial cloak....usually each spell is for only a few percent.

Yeah. More like 75000.
Feel very lucky that you can pay your own bounty. Try to imagine it nowadays. You break into a shop and at night and steal (amongst all) $200 iPod. Security cameras got you, Police visits you and they find the iPod, matches the one stolen. You're busted. Do you think they would let you go free and keep the iPod if you pay $300 right then?
Want to have an item "cleared"? Sell it to a fence, then buy it back. You lose about 80-100% the value and have the item "cleared".
Made it so that if u stole something u could give it back and have to pay maybe a quarter of the amount of gold value of what u stole.
Currently the fines for thievery are ridiculously low. And the item is taken away anyway. So what's the deal?
Made it so that if u stole something without anyone seeing, u wouldn't get ANY BOUNTY AT ALL!!!
Nearly impossible to be implemented properly with current AI. It worked in Morrowind like that - you'd go upstairs and rob the shopkeeper's flat dry, then sell all the stuff to his neighbor, and even though he saw you go upstairs, downstairs and then all his stuff is gone, nobody seen you = you're not guilty. I prefer Oblivion's global "stolen" flag. Simply no way to recognize "logically, he's a thief, even though nobody saw him putting this in his pocket". Either you're caught stealing, or you're free.
There once was a Prince named Mehrunes
Whose buttocks sounded sonorous tunes
‘Twas an odiferous song
People sang before long
They had enough of his full crescent moons.

Don't walk around with your ill-gotten gains. Stash them somewhere safe and fence them at your convenience. If there's an item that you're particularly fond of, "clear" it as described above.

LOL, lemme see if I understand you... You're upset because you stole something, got caught, and you can't keep your stolen items. Dude, wake up, it's part of a Thieve's job to steal and NOT get caught. If you get caught, then you gotta pay the penalty. Besides, it's not like there aren't ways around this problem like selling it and buying it back. Or just dropping your stolen items becore you get caught, doing the time or paying the fine, and then just walking back to where you were and picking all your stuff up again.

Dont understand the big deal with this one. Any items that you stole or the guard took from you, you can simply go down to the dungeon and steal it back out of the ridiculously easy locked chest. Most of the time the guard is not even positioned by the chest.
I will not conform to my enviornment, rather I will change it and mold it to my desire.

I got a question about stealing, how come ITEMs doesnt get "refreashed" like..in few days?when i steal from a shop, even after a month, when i brake in again, there is nothing there after i toke it all last time, that not reliastic.
and btw,if i go to the shoper and wonder what he got to sell,so he got allot of stuff, just not 'lying around' if u get my drift, aint i right?

"Special Items" ...usually the expensive magic ones that you are likely to steal, are unique items. Unique means there is only one. Common items like spell ingredients, and other consumables like soul gems are added back to inventory periodically, usually at a rate of few every day or so. I routinuely "farm" all the alchemical shops every few days, and everytime I go back for another harvest, they are restocked at least in part.

stolen items

 Drop any stolen items before talking to gaurds or people and when guards ask you to pay for your crimes and turn over your stolen goods. They can eat sh!t and die because you dont have any for them to take. Wahahaha then after you get freed or are released you can go back and pick up your stolen items. Sure it costs a liite gold but its worth it this works for any crime. I'd advise against murder just becuase jail time will deduct from your skills and attributes and the fines drain the ole bank acount realy fast. But hey if you have the means to kill and not get noticed by all mean do so.

Steal back your stolen goods, they'll be in the 'evidence' chest in near the jailor.

Yes really. you have to wait a day or two for soul gems...to appear in inventory. Not sure if they actually put them out on display for you to steal again. Maybe the NPCs are not that stupid after all....
