What was your first ever post on the forums and when was it? Was it cringe-worthingly bad? Or was it awesomely epic?
Mine was on Saturday 18th May, 2013.
A fairly generic introduction post in Welcomes and Goodbyes:
Aarah wrote:Sorry to interupt all the goodbyes... to say Hello!
I feel like I'm interupting a room full of people and they're all staring.
Oh well. Bye then.

Oh, thanks. It was in the welcomes and goodbyes thread.

I've used this website since I played my first Elder Scrolls game! My first Elder Scrolls game was Skyrim, I bought it for the Playstation 3, patched it up, and played it for 230+ hours!
Then I bought Oblivion GOTY for my PS3! I really liked it as well! I spent 160+ hours on that game! On my computer, I have Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind! I dabbled in Arena and Daggerfall, but I plan on fully playing them once I finish Morrowind! For my first and main file, I always play as a Nord.
Hello!
It seems like I was being paid to use as many exclamation points as I could. I seem way too excited.

First : can Nords/bretons/imperials/Redguards reproduce with each other ? making mixed race babies ? cause i remember that the gray prince on oblivion has an imperial for a father and an orc mother , but im still not sure ?
Second: how long do each of the mer races live (Altmer , Bosmer , Dunmer , Orc, ..etc) ?
Thanks , folks
There you go, absolutely unadulterated. (ignore the double edit at the bottom, that was for fixing some mistakes underneath. The second edit is this)
Jeez, I typed like a 5 year old, what a stupid post.
Seems it was Mars who first replied to me. Huh.

In a gripe thread over the widespread use of unkillable, essential characters in Oblivion (pre-Skyrim).
Spoiler:
I agree that widespread use of marking characters as essential is not the best approach. Careful designing can practically eliminate the problem. One solution I expect to see quite a bit is next-of-kin systems, similar to the roles played by Lucas and Harden Simms in Fallout 3's "The Power of the Atom" quest. A family member or close friend could act as a backup for initiating, reporting on, or finishing quests. Since unkillable children will be present in Skyrim, they're perfect candidates for many, if not most, scenarios.
The straight-forward solution is to never let a player get in a position to attack an essential character until when and if they become non-essential. New Vegas nearly got away with designing around the problem entirely, since there was only one non-child NPC, a robot, who was impervious to attack by the player without any rational explanation. The multiple story paths in that game reduced the number of trully "essential" characters to one, a different robot, and while he could be killed, the program would snatch up another vessel and he would reappear. The number of essential characters in Skyrim could be similarly reduced to one or two. And while TES doesn't have many robots, it does have plenty of daedra who could perform the same function of being rationally unkillable taskmasters or nemeses.
And multiple endings are not required to make it work; through careful planning alone, every NPC could hypothetically be mortal. But do we want Bethesda to have spent all their time exhaustively ensuring that the player can kill each and every thing he comes across, or should the focus be on overall quality? Taking a hard line on following this route poses many design dilemmas for the most important of characters, severely limits story options, and the various methods of control can become increasingly frustrating for players. So I wouldn't say there can't be any essential characters immune from death.
I thought the problem of essential characters ended up being a little less pronounced in Skyrim than it was in Oblivion, but it was still very much there. More than once, I'd try to wipe out a Stormcloak camp, only to find some essential dick who ruins the experience. I hit him with a sword that was powerful enough to kill Alduin in one swipe, and he acts like I just kicked him in the nuts. So then I, the heroes of Sovngarde I've summoned, and the dragon backing us up have to run away before the swelling goes down and this unstoppable juggernaut rises to do battle once more.

In addition to him being all "kill me", there was just something horrible about how everyone else - the announcer, Owyn and what's-her-name, the audience - all acted like it was an amazing victory. I went to talk to my buddy the Blue Team fighter, thinking he'd either cheer me on or console me by saying "It's what he wanted"... the final punch to that quest, for me, is that he's no longer friendly and spits out, "I hope it was worth it, Grand Champion".
My first post is mega cringe-worthy. I can't even say more than that:

So I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm working on a mod and I decided to use the paradise portal as a portal (duh). I changed the ID, removed the script, turned off the "hidden" setting, and it still won't appear in-game!!!!!!! Please help, I think the portal is pretty bad-@$$ looking, so I REALLY want to use it.

I've beaten Morrowind only once with a dunmer named "Outlander" (names so everyone in Morrowind would know my name.), and Oblivion with his son, "Traveller".
I was then directed to the Welcomes thread by Kerr, where I basically said the same thing.

I believe that it has been confirmed canon for a while now, however I agree with you that the assumption that the Argonians couldn't take on Morrowind is ridiculous. Let's look at the Western Roman Empire for example, it suffered a large number of political, religious, and economical strife before collapsing under an invasion by barbarian tribes like the Vandals.
Compare that to Morrowind
Political strife: It's Morrowind, I shouldn't have to explain all of the political problems it suffered.
Religious Strife: The Tribunal kind of collapsed under the weight of its failures.
Economic strife:The all powerful economic might of the Empire was almost certainly burning a hole in the Dunmer's pocketbook.
And all of those on top of that they had the blight and generally anything caused or involved with Dagoth-Ur. The unexplained (read: to fill in the plot hole "Why didn't the Nerevarine just solve the Oblivion Crisis now that he was pretty much unbeatable?") disappearance of the hero the Nerevarine. At least some suffering from the Oblivion Crisis, with the added bonus of the suppesed kidnapping of the only surviving member of the Tribunal AlmSiVi. With the grand finale being the destruction of Vvardenfall when the Ministry of Truth fell (admittedly that falls under things that were the Tribunal's fault, but since that is pretty much the entire point of the thread I had to mention it). But even with the potential survival of Vvardenfall it was obvious Dunmer society was on the downswing.
Argonians did not conquer Morrowind, they just claimed the few non-destroyed pieces as their own.

Ooooh, she got tricked by a big, bad Orc usurer and got trapped on an island with murderous thrill-seekers hungry to kill her. Now, the only way to get out of this is to go into that dark, dank dungeon and try to take them out all by herself...
...a daunting task, unless you happen to be a killer more heartless and cruel than those three schmucks who have no idea that a Dark Brotherhood assassin is about to change the rules: first person to die will supply the intestines needed to hang the other two victims from the dungeon ceiling.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.
Evidently, it took some time before I ever posted in General, namely sticking to the TES subforums and lore I can taste the irony in the first post in General

I was editing articles anonymously in the UESP wiki for a few months before registering, which explains why I simply burst onto the scene like a longtime lurker. I happened to be one.

Union made his debut on UESP with a post defending Alchemy in Oblivion on October 7th, 2011.
Unionhack wrote:Alchemy paid for my Argonian's Leyawiin house. XD If you go around picking everything you see, it's a great source of income; particularly restore fatigue potions.
On said Argonian, I once raided an inn that I knew I'd never go into again. Killed everyone inside, looted their pocket change, and then grabbed every speck of food I could find in that place (and there was a lot). With my master alchemy skill and master equipment, my restore fatigue potions were worth a ton. Made about 5000 gold from that one outing.
I still stand by Alchemy as the best damn way to make money in Oblivion.
