Shade of the Revenant

Post by s0shlychlngd »

Ok, I apologize for over-complicating things like I normally do. I am especially upset because I'm a math major and I tend to over-analyze the easiest things. Like the Shade of the Revenant.

So the confusion is not only what current day it is, but also when the first day is. Does the game start on day 0 or 1? The black sould gem article (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Black_Soul_Gem) makes it look like the shade occurs on day 1, 9, 17, etc. So I waited until my journal said "days passed: 361" and I also double checked with the link to a calculator that was given. Entered in days passed: 361 and got "The Shade is Today!" Hooray I thought. But no Shade.

So then I thought Ok maybe it did it wrong.... if 361 days have PASSED, then I am actually on day 362, and I missed the Shade, right? So I saved and looked at the current day. It says day 361, but also the journal says days passed: 361. ......... That's when my mind just imploded.

The first case is if the first day is day 0. So set the day listed in the journal as days passed = n. Then it makes sense that the current days also = n.

The second case is if the first day starts on 1. So then the current day is actually n + 1. So maybe I can assume that the day starts on 0, since both numbers are equal in the game.

If that's true, then the article can't be right. If the "Days Passed" says 1, 9, 17, etc., then that means the current day is day 1, 9, 17, etc. But it just said that it starts on the first day, which I (probably incorrectly) determined was day 0.

If the article is correct, and if 1 day has passed, does it meant it is now day 2, and does the Shade occur on day 2, 10, 18, etc.?

If you use the calculator that was linked, should you actually subtract 1 from the current day and plug THAT into the number of days passed, instead of the listed journal days passed?

My head hurts and I still can't find the Shade of the Revenant......

Um...An easier way is to put into a calculator 1+8=9 then press +8 then keep pressing =
and you'll get it...361 should be the right day, just put grand soul gems into the altar and soul trap it on that day. :)

Well your right, you did overcomplicate things, when the site said the Day of the shade of the Revanent came on days like 1,9, and 17 they mean the days of the month, not some kind of complicated formula  . To check to see what the current date is just press the wait key: "T" on the computer, "Back" on the Xbox360, Ps3 ? will open up the wait screen.

If the day on the wait screen corresponds with any of the days mentioned then you should see the shade (Easier to see at night) If not, just wait or sleep untill the nearest day

But... the article lists number of days I thought. 1, 9, 17, 25, 33(not a date from here on out), 41, 49, 57, and 65. And that also can't be right because each month only has 30 or 31 days in the game, so 25 + 8, when wrapping the date into the next month, would be the 2nd or 3rd or 4th or something...

I belive this is it:

Every 8th day of a month. I.e.

1,9,17....31.
Next month: 1,9,17...31.
etc. etc.
...and diplomacy continues to fail. Their ears fall deaf, and their eyes fall blind, yet they are still not mute. They will not know their errors. Only what they believe themselves. But we... we shall not be silenced.

MMMMMMMmmmmmmk.

So I waited around longer and the Shade did NOT come on day 361 like the formula/pattern implies. Not until midnight, AFTER day 361, did it happen. My Journal said "Days Passed: 362" and also the current day on the save file says day 362. So it couldn't either mean 1 of 3 things:

1) The article is wrong (probably not)
2) The Xbox version is different than the PC version
3) Once you reach the next year (aka 3E434) the Shade occurs on a different multiple.

Yes, intuitively, it makes sense that on day 362, 361 full days have passed. But this is NOT what is listed in the journal, which is probably the cause of the confusion. I can't really verify any of these three but yeah... that's what happened.

I don't think so because it happened for me on Last Seed 23, 3E434
