Ayleid, Dunmer, Dwemer most. Mystery adds character.

I find the Imperial culture interesting. Got to love Romans. I really don,t like the Breton culture. It is so bland.

Re: The culture you find most and least interesting
I thought all of the cultures of Tamriel where interesting as they where described in Morrowind, but the last two games haven't been able to live up to the picture they painted back then. they've all created some new interesting lore, but nothing great. Why the hell would they revert to generic fantasy for Oblivion, it was the unique theme of Morrowind that made the series great in the first place. I was astonished when I played Morrowind for the first time, I had played Oblivion first, but when I realized what Cyrodiil could of been I was disappointed. And when I first saw the trailer for Skyrim I was so excited, then I heard that Todd Howard was going for the feel of Morrowind again, and I was even more so. But now that I've played the game I'm slightly disappointed, wheres the Nordic culture I loved in Morrowind, where are the Nordic gods, Shor and Ysmir, Beth. didn't even elaborate on the differences between Elven and Human cultures, instead Beth. tries to erase those differences and make the Nords the same. Ancient Nords worshiped Shor! Not Dragons I say! Shor! Not that Skyrim is a bad game, but it didn't live up to expectations. I think its because Michael Kirkbrides not directly involved anymore that the lore has been lacking.

Re: The culture you find most and least interesting
I actually kind of like all the cultures? Well, I like all of them to different degrees, but I don't explicitly find any 'boring' or 'uninteresting' :p Much as I disliked the Altmer in Skyrim, I'm still fascinated as all hell about their culture and province if the lore and older games are anything to go by (and you know, we've never actually -seen- Alinor or any place like it. Just little clues and hints.)
If I had to rate one though, it has to be Breton culture. Partly because I kind of really like the whole medieval/feudal France+England flavor they've given them (despite the cliche, I know) and I really like how they're described as being 'uniform'. Plus that whole bit about them always wanting to go on quests so that they might prove themselves to the community? Love that >w<
Makes it a little easier to write about as well. There's a lot of guesswork that goes into writing fanfics and stuff, especially when ES lore tends to be a bit of a hot mess regarding some topics (all the retconning and backpeddling oh man), so Breton culture is familiar enough for me to sort of have a decent shot in the dark, but with enough of a unique flavoring to make them stand out.

Dwemer are most interesting to me, Imperials are the least as there is little unique about them.

The dwemer are just fascinating. Simply everything we know about them (wich is very little) is amazing (at least for me). Now, for the one I like the least.... maybe the imperials? Can't say that for sure though, I simply love all the TES lore.

True, Orcs are quite boring. Maybe because we don't know much about them too; as far as I know, they never really got in control of their own territory for too long as well. Maybe they are too spread over all Tamriel to have their very own culture.Minor Edits wrote:Dunmer are the most interesting. Orcs can suck it; they bore the crap out of me.

It's because there's not much to know about Orcs. They're cultural emos. They adore being outcasts. They get married at night. They're god is ****. They're organized into clans similar to Ashlanders, with a chief and a shaman being the most important roles. The chief has breeding rights. I just described to you the entire Orc culture.

Ahh that game ruined orcs for me, oh well.
On-topic: I find the Dwemer most interesting. A technological-underground-magical race bent on upsurping the Gods? I'd love to find out what they were thinking!
Then it would be the Altmer, generally more magical races because of the important role of magic...shame I don't know too much though. Anybody knows some good books on Altmer culture in game? I'd love to read some.
There is an infinite number of alternate universes, which means all books are non-fiction.

Re: The culture you find most and least interesting
Honestly, I like the redguard the best. The way they see their time on Nirn unlike any other race of man. For them it is a challenge to overcome. For most men it's a blessing, for many mer it's an imprisonment. For redguards it's all like, "It's a blessing we get this challenge, let's bust out of here". That and one of their gods is called Tall Papa, how much more badass could that be. I like the civil war that comes from assimilation of new culture vs. tradition, and the middle ground that is emerging. And come on, they fought off the Thalmor, no one else can say that. They might be a bit narrow minded when it comes to magic, but you can always role-play out of that. Personally my redguard be summoning atronachs all day, then he pulls out his warhammer and fights alongside them.
Least favorite culture, probably, gonna get hate for this, but the dunmer. I can't forgive them for their enslavement of the argonians, who happen to be my second favorite.
Likely to get even more hate for this, but I really don't care for the Dwemer either. Yeah, yeah, ancient super advanced civilization that vanished from the face of Nirn, whatever, too cliche.

Re: The culture you find most and least interesting
If there were any two cultures i would like to learn a lot more about it would be, Snow Elves and the Men of Akavir(who's name is still under debate). The Men of Akavir mainly because they would have awesome stories to tell and the Snow Elves because they had an extremely advanced culture as well.

It's true, they did have some Imperial deserters helping them, not to mention the Thalmor had been severely weakened by the Battle of the Red Ring, but still. Indeed they do, the greatest Nord warriors ascend to Shor's Hall of Valor in Sovngarde, it's part of the clear parallel with the Nordic people of our own world (and also part of what makes the Nords so badass
). In fact, I'd say more so. I wasn't even aware of a Dunmer 'heaven' or equivalent.

Yeah, pretty much agree with everything you've written (Oblivion was my first ES game too!). I thought Skyrim was an improvement on Oblivion, but it still doesn't make me fall in love with it, like Morrowind did.Anonymous98223 wrote:I thought all of the cultures of Tamriel where interesting as they where described in Morrowind, but the last two games haven't been able to live up to the picture they painted back then. they've all created some new interesting lore, but nothing great. My favourite culture is the Dunmer. I think they're by far my favourite culture EVER (that includes both real life cultures and cultures from other games)! I was really happy that we got to go to Solstheim in Dragonborn, it was really awesome to see how the Dunmer are coping in the Post-Red Year world!
My least favourite cultures are probably either the Nords, the Argonians or Imperials. I found Cyrodiil to be ok but not awe-inspiring, it had too much of a generic fantasy feel (as others have already said). Skyrim was ok, but Vikings are too familiar. I dislike Argonians mainly because they pillaged Southern Morrowind... I know it was probably justified, but I like the Dunmer so I still find it annoying
