End-game optimized character

Post by bas237 »

No comments about "Don't take Alchemy!" please ;)

I want to create the perfect end-game optimized character. So, basically, I want to make a character which is able to do everything I want, whether it is sneaking, fighting or using magic, and who's also perfectly balanced and as strong as possible.

The most difficult thing to raise up in the end-game is Magicka. That's why I take High Elf as a race and The Atronach as a birthsign. I don't count about the 25% weakness to Shock/Fire/Frost abilities of the High Elf, it will be compensated by the 50% Spell Absorption from the Atronach birthsign which is easily brought up to 100%.

Since your health goes up with 10% of your Endurance every time you level-up, it's important to have a high Endurance as well, so I will make sure I have a +5 bonus for it all the time (well, until it reaches 100).

Finally, I want to have my Luck attribute being 100 when I've reached lvl 45, so I take Luck as an attribute and select it every time I level up.

This is my current character thought:

Race/Gender: High Elf Male
Birthsign: The Atronach (+200Mgk, 50% Spell absorption, no mgk regeneration)
Attributes: Endurance & Luck
Specialization: Stealth (since stealth skills are the most difficult to raise up, like Speechcraft and Mercantile)
Major skills: all magic skills

I'm using OOO (that's why the Atronach gives a 200 mgk boost instead of 150).

My question is: what do you think about this concept? I will use the +5+5+1 efficient levelling method, which can be replaced by:
+5 {{attribute}} +5 Endurance +1 Luck in the first hours I spent with him.

And do you have any suggestions?

I'm not going to make some kind of a god character, I just want one character to play with for over 200 hours. The OOO mod already makes the game more difficult and I will put the difficulty slider all the way to the right when I've reached a high level.

I'm also going to role-play, like putting my favorite book next to my bed (thanks to someone on this forum, which name I currently forgot) and I'm definitely not going to rush through the quests.

why the atronach? i can see why you might want to give up regeneration for just potions, its not hard, but still!

And your majors are al magic skills? thats a little odd considering that those are usually pretty easy to level at first, you can do it while walking on the way to a quest or something. But with the Atronach you cant regenerate so it will be harder.

If you take all magic skills as majors, then it will be impossible for you get +5 to Intelligence or +5 to willpower if you actually play as a spellcaster (and not just stand in a room spamming one spell over and over for hours).

Why? What if I only use Destruction and get a +10 boost in it? That makes me level-up and gives me a +5 bonus.

And I've chosen for all the magic skills because I want to level up fast once I've made sure I've got the +5 bonus in Endurance and another attribute, like Strength or Intelligenc, and because I already have Stealth as a specialization.

I want my max. level as high as possible, so that's why I don't take any stealth skills as majors.

And with the Atronach birthsign I don't have to spent points in Willpower.

I'll relate my only advice in reference to your "Playing over 100 hours with one character" topic:

1.) Do not ask for advice on your character build, or how to play it. It will then no longer be your character, and you will not enjoy it as much (if at all).

To get over 100 hours with a character, it has to be yours.

You have to set your OWN "Role" to play, not by some "Guide". Putting a book on a nightstand is not roleplaying, if you do not have a reason for doing this. You have to have a story for who they are, and what they do.

You have to have "Goals" to accomplish. A reason for doing quests. Do not quit until you accomplish all of your Goals.

I always get over 100 hours with all of my characters, and I do not do every Quest Line. Depending on my Role & Goals, that determines which Quests I will do.

I do not make "god" characters, or do everything characters. I intentionally make them with weaknesses, so that I have to find ways to overcome them. As well as choosing Majors Skills, I choose Prohibited Skills, that I never use. Then I have to find alternate ways to do things.

I played an Argonian Merchant (with mods) and did not do any of the Major Questlines for over 120 hours. I only did the Areana, Misc, & City Quests. I would still be playing him, but he had accomplished all of his goals, plus I had a new idea for a different character.

I never thought of the concept of using atronatch with high elf? good idea, I mean if you use alchemy its fairly simple to get your magicka back while quicklly leveling up in that skill :)

Yes, the no Magicka regeneration can be overcame by alchemy, but it is still irritating, so I wouldn't do it again.

I am doing a High Elf + Atronach. His stats are almost maxed, I effeciently leveled, so he is a god character. But the no magicka regeneration is his only weakness, and it's seriously irritating. I don't recommend using The Atronach.

Yes but with the Atronach you have 200 more Magicka points, which is really nice, and you don't have the 100% Weakness to Magicka bonus from the Apprentice.
Instead, you have 50% Spell Absorption, and by bringing it up to 100%, you regenerate magicka every time you're hit by magic spells.
If there are no mages around you and you still want to regenerate your magicka, summon a creature who uses magic and make it attack you.

Yes but I haven't said I'm not going to create my own role-playing stories. Because that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm going to create my own books, make small mods that adds them in-game, and I'm going to create sidequests and new settlements and dungeons that have a connection to my character.

It's just that I never had a god character before that I'd like to have one right now.
I don't want an overpowered character who owns everyone, for that, I'm going to play on the highest difficulty setting and use OOO.

I don't know why, but in my opinion having one character who's doneall the quests is more fun then 'one DB char', 'one TG char', etc.

I've had no problem completing any of the quest lines so far with my character, and I haven't gone the optimizing route....so I don't think it's really necessary.

If you want to though, have at it. I tried at first, then realized it's more fun to just play the game, rather than keep track of my advances, etc. I play games for fun, not to work...hehe... Between alchemy and custom enchantments, I can usually come up with whatever effect is needed, and my health (concentrated on raising endurance each time) is plenty sufficient for most challenges (if not, then there's healing potions or god forbid, spells)...

I've got nearly 100 hours in, and so far only done the Thieves Guild, Arena, and DB questlines to completion. I've done all the Mage Guild recommendations, and some of the Fighter's Guild quests, and only barely started the Main Quest (saving for better sigil stones!) I spend a lot of time exploring, talking with different NPCs, exploring ruins, and killing vampires (heh, Rosethorn Hall aint cheap!), but I've spent a lot of time making my homes look cool, organizing all of the loot, etc. Though I sell off the "normal" stuff, I've still kept every slightly magical item I ever found. My point (after all of this rambling) is that as long as you like the character you make, and enjoy the game, the rest of it is all rather academic....

Too much time is spent worrying about what your character will be like at his top level, and too little time playing just to enjoy your character AS he/she levels. I've played through 2 characters at 300+ hours each, and some others I've started and will come back to later, and I find that as long as you're using skills, you don't need to fret too much about whether or not the attributes get to 100... they will.

On a side note, the higher your level in any specific skill, the less luck becomes a factor, so if you're good at something, luck has little to do with it at all. So, in that vein, why not do a 5+5+5 character if you're really set on getting the +5 modifiers, and increase your stats for skills that you're using faster?
I'll try to help if I can.

Elder Scrolls Games owned/played:

Morrowind for XBox
Oblivion for both PC and PS3
All add-ons for PC

Just obtained Arena and Daggerfall.

I agree, worrying about stats and how everything will end up is a problem I have. :P People should focus on having fun and enjoying the game instead.

Because it's really satisfying to see that glorious 100 in every stat. It looks much more professional and perfect. :P

That's my reason, at least.

For me, my real life personal trait, is to Make a (training) Plan & keep track of it. In the Army, all Leaders have to have a Leaders Book. You have to make a plan on who, what, when, where, and how you will Train. You have to keep track of training stats, who passed/failed. You have to have retraining & sustainment training. For me, that is what I have always done. It is a natural habit after 20 odd years. I enjoy doing it, and wouldn't think of doing it any other way.

However, I now make extensive plans on how to not Max everything. How to make limitations & weaknesses, so that I have to find alternate ways to do things.
