I'm guessing you can't have a shrine to Nocturnal then either?
That would be correct. And each shrine requires different materials including a necklace. Im afraid to build a shrine to talos for fear of Thalmor. I mean the vampire attacks at night are bad enough. Oh and speaking of which, a vampire character can build a coffin in his cellar. :D

Do Thalmor actually come to your house if you build a Talos shrine? It is the only one I have any intention of building in my houses, despite being an Imperial soldier. It would be nice if the Thalmor came to me for a change rather than hunting them down!

I love how the Talos shrine requires dragon materials to craft.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

I tell the Thalmor I worship Talos all the time. About 10-30 seconds before killing them, depending on how much their group is spread out. I'm part of the Imperial Legion, but it doesn't stop me at all. And I fully intend to raise my children to worship all 9 Divines. Yes, there is that whole treaty with the Thalmor that forbids religious freedom, but when that was signed, the Empire didn't have a Dragonborn demigod fighting for them.

Yep, if the Aldemeri Dominion ever decides to attack Skyrim in any DLC, Skyrim will win regardless of the player's choices. Oh there are two hundred soldiers and I'm the only one fighting? *Menu, Gameplay, Difficulty, Novice* Initiate demi-god status.

How much of the house do you have to build to get a steward? I've read that Mjoll can do it but there's no dialogue.

You could always throw them behind the shrine thing? I think there's a space behind there at least..

No doors. A pair single beds and wardrobes. It is on the same wall as your master double bed. No doors to your room if you dont buy the bedroom expansion. However, I have not bought that expansion, so I dont know what that comes as.

I think you would have to remodel the whole house back into an entry way to remove furniture or whole wings.

Is there anyway to make a steward not a steward anymore? I made Calder my steward then I realized it would make more sense if I got Gregor to be the steward. I tried making Calder follow me and going back to Hjerim and then making him leave my service, hoping he'll go inside Hjerim, but he just starts walking out of town.

Yeah right now I've got Gregor and the housecarl from Morthal walking around my house because i forgot that i had Gregor when i needed a housecarl. Maybe I'll marry Mjoll the Lioness so she can bring Aerin and adopt another kid, then we can be a horrible sitcom.

Are the library bookshelves the only ones in the game? Cause (if it ever come to PS3) I'd like both the armory and some book shelves, but armory and library are on the same side. Pity we can't pick the sides, there's not really THAT much customization. Also having stone walls would have been nice, and picking a different style for the interior (Solitude style). Oh well.

There are a bunch of extra bookshelves in the house. If you thought there wasn't enough storage in the city houses be prepared for a surprise.. Out of the about 100 containers in my house, around 10 or 11 of them have anything in them.

Nah, I found the general storage fine, I just wanted more display cases, plaques and mannequins to show off my weapons and more bookshelves for all the books I collect. Well good to know, thanks.

There are many bookshelves in the house by itself. The library adds a tower that has 6 very tall bookshelves, and 2 chests and a great view. In the main house and cellar there are at least 6 display cases 2 mannequins and 9 weapon racks and 4 plaques that I can think of off the top of my head. And that is without adding branches to the house.

There is also a lot of redundancy in the house. Such as the ability to have a bed in the main hall, but you can add bedrooms, or having a smelter outside and in your cellar. And a smithing anvil outside, in main hall and in your cellar. Or the ability to plant things outside, in your greenhouse and in the alchemy tower.
For reference purposes, I build my house with a greenhouse, storage and library attachments.

Small House: A small one room house, with the ability to add beds, a firepit, cooking pot, and basic storage.
Entry Hall: After building a Main Hall, the Small House can be converted into an Entry Hall, with more display cases but no beds or firepits.
Main Hall: A much larger two-level building that is added on to the initial Small House or Entry Hall. It contains two staircases to each side of the main room, with a separate room in the back on both levels. After completion, you may construct additional wings. You are able to include all the necessary features of a house, such as an alchemy lab, an arcane enchanter, a firepit, a mannequin, a blacksmith's anvil, a master bedroom and children's room, a large assortment of storage options, and several display cases and weapon racks.
Cellar: An optional addition the the Main Hall, including a forge, smelter, standing coffin for sleeping (if a vampire), large amounts of storage, an altar where you may place a shrine for each deity, a mannequin, and an indoor archery range.

West Wing Additions

Bedroom: Enough extra room for a double bed and two children's beds, and multiple display cases. Includes a rooftop patio. Combined with the Main Hall, Cellar, and Small House furnishings, allows for at least nine beds (including the coffin).
Greenhouse: Allows for the planting and growing of certain plants indoors, and includes several satchels and containers to store items. There are a total of 18 available soils for planting, divided between three 1x4 large planters, and six 1x1 small planters.
Enchanting Tower: Includes an arcane enchanter, a mannequin, and several display cases. Combined with the Main Hall furnishings, allows for two separate arcane enchanters. Combined with the Main Hall, Cellar, and Armory furnishings, allows for eight total mannequins.

North Wing Additions

Trophy Room: Allows the display of three large trophies, and several smaller. A couple of storage containers available.
Storage Room: A large assortment of storage containers fill the room. Includes a rooftop patio.
Alchemy Laboratory: Several hanging foodstuff or ingredients, an alchemy lab, storage options, and a few shelves. Combined with the Main Hall furnishings, allows for two separate alchemy tables.

East Wing Additions

Armory: Five mannequins, six display cases, multiple storage options, two weapon plaques, multiple weapon racks, a workbench, and a grindstone. Exterior patio area on the roof. Combined with the Main Hall, Cellar, and Enchanter's Tower, allows for eight total mannequins. Combined with the Main Hall's Cellar addition, as well as outside additions, and the Trophy Room, allows for a total of three workbenches, and three grindstones, and four tanning racks.
Kitchen: Plenty of storage, with a cooking pot and baking oven. Combined with the Main Hall and Small House furnishings, allows for a total of three cooking pots.
Library Tower: Five large bookshelves (4 shelves x 11 books each), six smaller bookshelves (2 shelves x 11 books each).

Yeah, I read the description but as there was nothing about bookshelves I got worried. Also I agree with the redundancy, I hope I can not have many of the things, like the enchanter's table in the main hall or the smelter outside or the grindstone in the armory.

Assuming that you dont pay to have each area furnished, you can choose what you build in each area of the house. I mean, it will be really hard for a completionist to stop before they make redundant crap, but it is possible.
