I seem to remember hearing something about being able to fish and I got really excited, but based on all I've seen it looks like you can only do that with your fish hatchery (you cant just set up next to a river anywhere) but I haven't downloaded it yet so I'm not sure. Does anyone know more?

Re: Hearthfire Discussion
Well, I adopted Runa Fair Shield. She's rather happy to have a home, and its nice having a child. Just need to find her some toys, which I have yet to see for sale anywhere. Oh well, they'll turn up.
While it is nice to have the option to become a parent, I still wish there was just a little bit more to it. Like an option to teach my children a bit. Like how to weild a sword, or cast a spell, or shoot an arrow. Or even just the crafting skills. "Now, Runa, this is how you swing a hammer to forge an iron dagger. Later I'll show you how to enchant it with this petty soul gem I filled during that last skeever investation, then I'll show you how to mix a health potion." Something along those lines, just to make it feel like I'm being a parent and teaching my kid something.

Re: Hearthfire Discussion
And my second daughter is Sofie from Windhelm. Sofie was the first stray orphan I met. Kinda found her by accident while shopping in Windhelm. Shortly there after, I met Lucia in Whiterun. I'd already decided I wanted two daughters with this character. And I wanted to get one from the orphanage and take in one stray off the streets. What made me pick Sofie over Lucia is that I saw Sofie selling flowers, trying to make a living for herself. Not doing a terribly good job, but trying just the same. Lucia was just begging. Sofie struck me as the survivor and fighter of the two. And that made me think she should be the Dragonborn's daughter.
So, out of curiousity, who did everyone pick for their adopted kids and why?

Are there any requirements to get the adoption letter?

Re: Hearthfire Discussion
It seems like Runa is the Lydia of children. Everyone who I've seen so far that's adopted a kid has Runa. I'm still trying to level my mage up enough to buy the land in The pale. Does anyone know why the Jarl's second favor (Killing the giant at Blizzard Rest) requires you to be level 22? I'm level 16 now and it takes forever to level a mage dammit!

Mages level up faster than anyone, so I don't know what you are doing wrong.

Re: Hearthfire Discussion
I adopted Runa. Just something about her. She still won't put her clothes back on though.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Hearthfire Discussion
A lot of quests that require you to fight higher leveled enemies require you to be around that level. Like mjoll in riften, she won't give you her quest to get her sword until I think 18 or so. And mehrune's razor doesn't active until 20.Imperfect Three wrote:It seems like Runa is the Lydia of children. Everyone who I've seen so far that's adopted a kid has Runa. The only quest that doesn't fit that mold for some reason is azura's quest. I tried that at a very low level when skyrim first came out, and I got [&@%!] stomped
Technically, yeah, you could probably kill a giant at a low level, but its not very probable.

I adopted off the streets and never killed grelod. Personally, I found Lucia and none of the other 3 new children. My next kid will be the kid of one of my friends who dies by vamp or dragon. Ya know, just so I feel like I fully avenged them and picked up the loose ends, something a real friend would do.

This is do awesome. I suppose this will be a good time for my Imperial to kick that nasty skooma habit, since she will be mothering and all.
Re: Hearthfire Discussion
I picked Hroar from the orphanage as I wanted a boy (current character is a Khajiit, and I laughed at the like a lion joke) and a girl who sells flowers in Windhelm whose name I can't recall.
Thing is I've got the house, the wife, the kids and the trophy room etc. Now where is mah dawg?

I set my fishery up but so far it's just an empty fenced off are on the nearby water. But I haven't done much with it so I dunno if slaughterfish are coming in a day or two. The garden does take a few days for them to grow so maybe I gotta wait. But I do know a freaking legion of Hoarkers came after it. It was like eskimo apocalypse down there.
Anyone theming their house. My one near solitude (morthal one) is pure industrial, armory, enchanter, alchemy. I figure it being next to capital and east empire base I can start my own enchanted armor/potion profit machine (bit of rp aspect but still) My middle (Pale) is residental and where I'm currently living. Trophy room, kitchen, bedroom. I haven't build third down by falkreath but it's gonna be my vacation home, garden, library, and storage.

Re: Hearthfire Discussion
Wow, I just adopted Sofie (FLower Girl in Windhelm) earlier today on my Khajiit and was thinking about Hroar for the same reason. I only wish there were some Khajiit to marry, it's kind of creepy for a necromancer kitty to be taking care of a little girl by himself. I'm like the snow tiger version of Falion..Stormborn wrote:I picked Hroar from the orphanage as I wanted a boy (current character is a Khajiit, and I laughed at the like a lion joke) and a girl who sells flowers in Windhelm whose name I can't recall.

I adopted Francois Beaufort because he was the only orphan at Honorhall who didn't beg to be adopted. I'm not sure if that's cruel or weird.

I didn't adopt him because his name was absolutely TERRIBLE! I also went for Sofie in Windhelm because the Jarl's son Nelkir or whatever really kept me from liking the male children in Skyrim. Re: Hearthfire Discussion
A question about the Trophy Hall.
Does anyone know if you actually have to hunt down and kill the trophy item, or is the trophy simply manufactured at the workbench, using critter-related materials?
I was kinda hoping that each trophy would be handled like a mini quest where I had to kill a specific creature.

you have to have parts of the desired trophy animal in order to make the trophy on the bench
