Yes Nords, practice the dark arts, kidnap people for blood sacrifice, and have bird women. Oh wait, they don't? Never mind.

Yeah it is, I'm discussing a race, Nord, not the faction of Bretons, Forsworn.

No you are discussing the forsworn. If you want it to be a race call it reachmen. But it is not one of the poll options :p

I'm talking about Nords, who don't allow Thalmor, practice magic much, and go to a building in Winterhold. Nords also enjoy drinking, fighting, money, and occasionally Hircine. Nords also the subject of a great game, buy it.

Re: What is YOUR favorite race? And why?
Put another one in the Khajiit column.
"May your road lead you to warm sands."
They just sound so much warmer and friendlier than the other races. I'm sure a big part of that is the voice acting, but I also like their turn of phrase. Their lax attitude for the idea of "property" comes off more humorous than just outright Thieves' Guild quick-buckery. That attitude makes them great fences, and being a fence makes them very useful, which in turn makes me like them more. It also helps that they're generally not dumb hulking warriors or dusty academics, who are such boring archetypes... there's more of a... fuzziness to their motivations. And on top of that, they're usually considered marginal people in society (slaves in Morrowind, not allowed inside cities in Skyrim), which gives them that underdog quality.
I pretty much never play one, but they always get my sympathy.
On the other hand, Nords are my least favorite.
The warrior type is already filled more colorfully by both Orcs and Redguards. While Orcs are similar big dumb tank types, they have a far more interesting backstory with the whole Trinimac/Malacath thing, and like the Khajiit they also have the underdog thing going on. The nimble, precise warrior that the Redguard represent holds way more appeal for me then either Orcs or Nords, though. I also appreciate the vaguely Asian influences more than the Norse ones.
My ordering would go:
Khajiit > Redguard > Dunmer > Bosmer > Orismer > Argonian > Imperial > Breton > Altmer > Nord
I like most of them, but those bottom 4 just seem more generic than the others. Altmer and Nords are pretty much just your standard fantasy warriors and mages, while Bretons are your typical "White guy: European" are Imperials are "White guy: Roman". They're too familiar.

I find that making an attractive female Nord is the easiest thing to do on Skyrim, it doesnt take much... Maybe just an hour or two...Memai wrote:To each their own, I suppose ;> I find it really hard making a remotely attractive Nord character though, without having to default to the first preset and tweaking small things here and there. Usually find a preference to Khajiit and Argonians. Morrowind pushed me away from them what with lack of shoes or specific helms though.... Been a Breton of Bosmer ever since then.

Re: What is YOUR favorite race? And why?
Unlike what I think must be the majority of Elder Scrolls players, I've never ever rolled a dunmer character. Ever. At all. I do love Morrowind, and I have the deepest respect for Nerevar (as far as roleplaying goes) given he was this really awesome, powerful hero who was betrayed... but for this very reason I see the dunmer dark skin as a sign of their shame.
Redguards I like. I love the swords, I love the costumes and I love Sentinel. Arabian knights for the win.
Nords I like, too. And I've been playing nord characters since Daggerfall. Played one for a VERY long time in Morrowind. Played several in Oblivion. Played a few in Skyrim. Nords are always fun.
Now, one of my regulars is a Bosmer by the name of Sindarion Mortskin. I "invented" this character a few years ago when I decided to play an evil character in Oblivion. Did the same with Skyrim... all things evil are his to do.
My favourite in Skyrim (which is funny because I never much liked orcs before) is the ORSIMER. I love Skyrim's orcs. They look brutal. In Oblivion, orcs looked kinda dumb and comical, so I never played an orc before Skyrim. Berserker rage is a LOT of fun.

I actually kind of really love Khajiit folk too, but I've just never found an excuse to play 'em :< I already have a couple of sneaky-type characters slinking around.EarlJ wrote:Put another one in the Khajiit column.

I totally agree with you on the 'warmer demeanor' bit. I mean, when I interact with them they feel more receptive to your approaching them. And I've yet to meet any Khajiit out on the roads that I disliked. M'aiq comes to mind, and while his comments are hilarious and funny, the part he mentions about being nervous around Nords because they wear a lot of fur is kind of a stab in the heart really :'C
Plus, you gotta give it to the folks who aren't even allowed in cities or given side-eyes all the time, but still sort of just sit back and take it in stride ; w;

Dunmer FTW! But when i'm playing a more warrior type, i'll do an orc, simply because they are boss.

Re: What is YOUR favorite race? And why?
For me, Argonian, with Khajiit being a close second, and Nord and Dunmer tied for third. I just think, in a fantasy game with dinosaur and cat people, the other "man and mer" races seem boring by comparison, most of the time. I've never played a Breton, Altmer, Redguard, or Orc.
But Argonians...man. Freakin' humanoid dinosaurs. Heck. Yes. Also, they breathe underwater, make good stealth characters, are resistant to pesky diseases, and live in the most mysterious region of the continent. My deepest hope is that Bethesda is waiting to make a game based in Black Marsh, until video game technology is super high-tech, and they think up the most mind-bogglingly awesome Elder Scrolls experience imaginable.
Then there's the Khajiit. In my opinion, female Khajiit in TESV are the best looking characters in the game (and with the Cover Khajiit mod on PC...just forget about it). Aside from that, they're also the best stealth class in the game, their claws do extra damage (I have a claws-only character), and a Khajiit caravan is always a pleasure to see, carrying rare items for sale.
As well as these races were designed in this game, their involvement, or lack thereof, has left me extremely disappointed. For such interesting people, you get very little interaction with them. There isn't a single Khajiit you can marry. And they, along with Orcs, only have one voice per gender.

Dunmer whine constantly in Skyrim and are kind of an emo race, personality wise Orcs and Khajiit are the best for sure, I respect Nords as well to an extent, I really don't care for the human races because I play a human irl and woul much rather be a catman with stabby rip stab stab claws or an orc with green skin and fangs, Argonians are pretty cool too and underwater breathing is quite useful if you aren't a mage or like wasting enchanting slots.
My vote goes
1. Khajiit
2. Orc
3. Argonian

Agreed, buddy. The beast races are always the most fun to play and roleplay, because they're so rare and so... different than everyone else.Tingz0r wrote:For me, Argonian, with Khajiit being a close second, and Nord and Dunmer tied for third. I personally like them for the same reason I like Nords; magic resistance. 50% fire resistance for Dunmer, and 50% frost resistance for Nords. That's why they're tied for third.Shadowscale wrote:Argonian/Khajiit for me, I kinda like Nords too I guess. I don't understand the popularity of Dummer.
