Hello everyone I need some help with my characters back-story.
I have most of it down I just need a reason why a Dunmer (descended from a Telvanni family) would turn to necromancy.
He isn't evil, just desperate for power to rebuild the great house. He was orphaned at a young age and his brother died while they were both young (relatively speaking for a dunmer). He became the apprentice of a Necromancer in Cyrodil but had to flee after his master’s tower was sacked before he could really get into his training.
Also any tips on how to play him or just role-play tips in general would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if I should of posted this in a differet Board.

Re: Character Help
None of the Telvanni really followed a strict set of rules, so being a Necromancer isn't really out of place at all. You could go so far as to reason that he wants to somehow revive his brother somehow, in another form, but that's just another suggestion.

Re: Character Help
I don't know much about House Telvanni but I say you make your character a necromancer and have a story around that. If your little heart desires to play him as such, then do it. Frosty's reason for him becoming a necromancer is a good one. Also, check out our magey thread on here, it might give you some ideas for a backstory, etc.

I wonder if I could make the summon familiar spell bring up a person instead.Frost Mage wrote:somehow revive his brother somehow, in another form.
I'm actually half way through the thread, some pretty interesting character you all have.Dohvakiin2012 wrote:I. Also, check out our magey thread on here, it might give you some ideas for a backstory, etc.

Re: Character Help
like Frosty said House Telvanni never followed a strict set of rules and were a bit racist, In morrowind Telvanni lands were worked by slaves, also Telvanni wizards sometimes never had the highest moral values, so magic like necromancy and things like vampirism were readily used to enhance one's power, hope that helped

Re: Character Help
I'm playing a Telvanni in morrowind right now with the associated mods and it's really heping me get a feel for how a descendant could feel at the time of Skyrim.
So far I'm playing him proud but not above serving if it suits his end goals, aslong as in the end the end the puppets know who they are. In saying that he'll always pay back a debt if not out of friendship then just because he hates the thought of owing anyone. Sounds alittle contradictory when I type it out doesn't it?
As far as racism goes, doesn't care for the argonians (I'm sure most dunmer don't right about now) but apart from that just generally treats everyone else as if they're only slightly under him.

Re: Character Help
This would be the rough sketch of what my Telvanni would be like:
As a member of the Great House Telvanni <Insertname> he is a fairly ruthless man, he dabbles in necromancy and has an interest in poisons, as well as experiance in many other schools of magic. He favors the Sneak, Conjuration, Illusion, Light Armor, and Restoration skills the most. As a Dunmer, <Insertname> highly dislikes Khajiit and Argonians because he thinks they are lesser beings, he also despises Nords for the way they treat his kind in Windhelm. <Insertname> has also lost his faith in his god Azura because of how things in his life have been going. His reason for turning to necromancy is because he was always intrigued by the guardians of his ancestor's tombs and <Insertname> thinks that the undead should be protecting the living and not the dead. <Insertname> also hates bears of all shapes and sizes.
Does that sound pretty good?
