More people will sign the petition when Dawnguard is released for PC and PS3; right now only Xbox 360 gamers know of Serana.

Re: Dawnguard and Serana
You cant patch DLC.
When the Pitt DLC for Fallout 3 was shown to be terribly broken they had to re-release the ENTIRE DLC, because you can't patch it.
Serana is un-marryable, and will remain that way unless Bethesda decides to do an entire relaunch of the DLC, which is very costly to them, which mean they wont for that.
All the bugs in Dawnguard are there in Dawnguard, FOREVER, and Serana's inability to be married will remain that way, no matte r the size of the petition.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but why can't you patch DLC? Why can't they just release a patch for everyone, and for the people who have Dawnguard, have the patch make it so she's part of the marriage faction?SajuukKhar wrote:You cant patch DLC.

Re: Dawnguard and Serana
Because releasing a patch that edits Serana's marriage faction would mean everyone, regardless of if they have Dawnguard or not, would get the updated files.I_am_one wrote:I'm not saying you're wrong, but why can't you patch DLC? Which also means people who don't own Dawnguard, would be getting Dawnguard files.
Which means people who dont own Dawnguard, would be getting files, and getting the ability to edit files, for content they haven't payed for.
You can't patch DLC because not everyone has the DLC, and you cant give files to people when they haven't payed for them, the only solution is a COMPLETE relaunch of the DLC, similar to how The Pitt for Fallout 3 was handled.

This is Skyrim we're talking about, and Bethie could very well come up with a way to handle only the DLC in terms of patching. You just can't say either way.
Regardless, the petition is still worthwhile if you have the GOTY edition in mind.

Bethesda's hands were tied with Fallout 3
Obsidian's hands were tied with New Vegas
and nothing about how DLC works has changed since those times.

How about making it where the patch was undowloadable if you dont have Dawnguard? It would make sense.

And yet, this is a change that obviously needs to happen. Skyrim's changed the way we look at the RPG industry already; now, let them figure out how to patch DLC.SajuukKhar wrote:Bethesda's hands were tied with OblivionGideon Dragontongue wrote:This is Skyrim we're talking about, and Bethie could very well come up with a way to handle only the DLC in terms of patching. You cant selectively do that, becuase they have no way of knowing if you have Dawnguard or not.DikaSmausha wrote:How about making it where the patch was undowloadable if you dont have Dawnguard? It would make sense.
They did, its called doing a complete relaunch of the DLc, and its very costly.Gideon Dragontongue wrote:And yet, this is a change that obviously needs to happen. Skyrim's changed the way we look at the RPG industry already; now, let them figure out how to patch DLC.

Re: Dawnguard and Serana
From what I know of Serana (couldn't resist looking at the wiki page of Dawnguard) I'm a bit disappointed she can't be married. I just hope the bugs in the rest of the DLC aren't too bad, I they are I hope they re-launch it. Or at least fix the issues for when it comes to PC and PS3! That would make my day.

Re: Dawnguard and Serana
They dont, but the patch will. Think about it: they can make a patch and programm it where it will only download if you have the Dawnguard files.SajuukKhar wrote:You cant selectively do that, becuase they have no way of knowing if you have Dawnguard or not.DikaSmausha wrote:How about making it where the patch was undowloadable if you dont have Dawnguard? You can have more fun when you're not married anyway.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Nah... you never have more fun when married. It's a universal truth.

Seriously, who isnt getting the DLC in the first place? Unless someone is waiting for GOTY then i think most people will get the DLC. And if patch DLC on consoles only, no one can really mess with the files.SajuukKhar wrote:Because releasing a patch that edits Serana's marriage faction would mean everyone, regardless of if they have Dawnguard or not, would get the updated files.

Yeah exactly and PC can fix it themselves by adding Serena to the marriage faction.

Re: Dawnguard and Serana
Well for computers all that needs to be done is a single patch, like they did for Shivering Isles. And it would really not be hard for the patch to detect if you have Dawnguard in your add-ons list.SajuukKhar wrote:Because releasing a patch that edits Serana's marriage faction would mean everyone, regardless of if they have Dawnguard or not, would get the updated files.I_am_one wrote:I'm not saying you're wrong, but why can't you patch DLC? So if you cant patch DLC, then all the comp and PS3 peeps who were saying that they were going to get the "post-beta" version of dawnguard were totally wrong then?

They didn't patch Oblivion's DLC for the 360, they patched the base game only to add compatibility for more DLC.rpbraley868 wrote:Well for computers all that needs to be done is a single patch, like they did for Shivering Isles. No Bethesda DLC has ever been patched, except the Pitt DLC for Fallout 3 which required a complete re-release of the DLC.
Well Bethesda could fix the PC and PS3 versions of the DLC before release, but once its released, that is how it is.soda popinski wrote:So if you cant patch DLC, then all the comp and PS3 peeps who were saying that they were going to get the "post-beta" version of dawnguard were totally wrong then?

Can't they release the patch, but have it locked so that those without Dawnguard can't, like, activate the files, if that makes sense?SajuukKhar wrote:Because releasing a patch that edits Serana's marriage faction would mean everyone, regardless of if they have Dawnguard or not, would get the updated files.I_am_one wrote:I'm not saying you're wrong, but why can't you patch DLC? Or maybe just patch the Xbox version?
It can be added to the other version before it's released.
