Angeline Morrard's quest No News is Good News where you have to tell her that her daughter is dead. It made me despise the Stormcloaks a lot.

Also this Imperial Legion Quest from Morrowind made me feel very sorry towards Widow Vabdas.

Hmm...the cleansing is pretty much unanimous. Other than that, in Oblivion, during the last mission in the Knights of the Nine quest, all my knights were killed...I refused to allow that and of course pulled a redo.

ajrman wrote:It wasn't a quest but on Skyrim I was going to Riverwood to find a Blood Dragon attacking. After it landed at the tree trunk that Ralof sits on at the beginning Alvor the blacksmith got out a warhammer and charged across the bridge towards it. I almost shouted "ALVOR! NOOOOOO!!!!!" in real life. He was dead before he got there. After I killed the dragon everyone ran over to Alvor's dead body and little Dorthe (Alvor's daughter) ran up to him and said "This can't be happening." and I felt really sad. Since we didn't have a funeral pyre I put his body on top of his forge. He has remained there in the heart of his forge ever since.
IDEA FOR NEXT GAME INSPIRED BY THIS
To have cemeteries in each settlement so that if a character dies, they are buried there. Even better if they have funerals that you can attend.
I think that NPC's (followers at least) are placed in the Hall of the Dead in that hold capital i.e Whiterun. I'm not sure if this is just with followers though.

I EAT pain wrote:That was a sad mission... I felt like a bad-ass in the last theives guild mission where you STEAL AN ELDER SCROLL!

You basicly stole the game, in a sense.
It moved me for a different reason,
Spoiler:
the reunion of Corvus Umbranox and his wife is very touching. She lost her memory of her husband for over ten years while he searched all that time to help her find him again. The fact that she threatens to renounce him because he was the Grey Fox takes away from the story.
The quest which hit me most negatively was the Infiltration mission in the fighter's guild.
Spoiler:
The fact that you're not responsible for your actions doesn't take away from the fact that you just slaughtered a whole village.
I enjoyed mowing down everyone in Hackdirt. The fact that those responsible get away and then run from you on sight if you see them again is a bit of a downer.

Butchering the village of "goblins" after drinking the hist for the Fighter's Guild in Oblivion. That was an interesting one.

"dragon rising", not the quest Itself, but I did have subtitles enabled when Mirmulnir died, so I read his cry of "Dovahkiin! No!!". That, combined with the fact that I ate his soul, really put me down and insured that i never looked at a dragon's death without a twinge of regret.

Some will die unless the quest is done pretty early. They do not level up very well.

In Skyrim, I got the Ebony Blade, so of course I go out murdering people who love me. I went to this little farm, only a mother and son. I do the quest to find the father, well, I did and found an arrow in his chest. I went back to the mother and told her. So now it was just the Mother and Son. I waited until the kid went outside to play, I took out my sword and killed the woman. I went outside and I talked to the kid, "I can't believe my mother died... What will I do now?" I turned around and I walked away... Feeling like a sick bad ass and sad at the same time.

I'm suprised death incarnate from skyrim DB hasn't been mentioned yet. That was really sad.
The reuniting of karliah and gallus in darkness returns was also touching. Also, at the end when you go into the hole, loot the skeletons body, and read the note you're like oh crap. Wierd feeling, like imminent death.
Sorry, I couldn't think of a signature.

Yeah...that was pretty sad!

The quest that moved me in Skyrim was the Dark Brotherhood one where you go back into the Sanctuary to save the rest of the members after the P.O. takes over. When I saw poor Festus arrowed to death on a tree...that [&@%!] REALLY [&@%!] ME OFF. I'm still angry about it. That was no way for anybody to go...it was so brutal. And to top it all off, [&@%!] Astrid with all her [&@%!] that went down right after that.

So the way Festus died + Astrid's drama +having to fight my way through a burning sanctuary and only finding two members alive + one of those two members I almost lost because he was getting his ass handed to him in battle + having to hide inside a dead woman's coffin +the coffin sinking underwater and hearing my comrades pulling it out + then having to hear Astrid out and being [&@%!] OFF that she did a contract on herself= the WORST day in the game of Skyrim EVER. I was hella irritated after all that. If there was a good counselor in Skyrim, my Felina would go see her. But after all that, all she can do is just kill more to get rid of the pain. Damn.

EDIT: Oh, yeah...I totally forgot about the huge set up in Solitude prior to having gone back to the Sanctuary and having to escape Solitude from the crowds of guards and townies that wanted my sassy little head. Yeah, that was definitely the worst day ever.

I sliced his throat so beautifully he didn't even hear me breathe. I would have enjoyed a good fight more!

Mourning never comes, not the quest itself but the context around it in my first play through. A bit before I started the quest a ran into a fellow in Windhelm who was mourning his dead daughter and wanted an amulet to cheer up his wife.
Spoiler:
Didn't really catch his full name when I talked to him so I didn't connect to the fact that the optional part of the quest was killing his other daughter. I talked to her briefly before I slit her throat to see if there might be some peaceful reconciliation between her an Muiri but she was quite unpleasant so I went ahead with it.
A couple dungeons later I come upon the amulet and remember the sad guy from Windhelm. I rush back there as soon as I cleared the dungeon and when I talk to him he says
Spoiler:
that both his daughters and his wife are dead. Which didn't mesh with what he told me before. I went into the other room and found his wife with a suicide note. I read the note and then all the sudden all the dots connected. I felt like a real jerk taking Torbjorn's money when most of his grief was my fault. I gave him a second drink and walked away.
