At last a soap box.

Who cares what shows you like? I like lots of shows, doesn't mean I talk about them all the time. It is just boring if you only ever talk about one thing. Diversity is the spice of life and all that.

Frost Mage wrote:Oh no. This thread will be the death of me.

Okay, well, I might as well begin, with the topic of: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Why do we love the show? It's funny, cute, creative, and has terrific voice acting. No, we're not pedophiles, nor are we all gay. To those who insist we are one of those things, true bronies, as we call ourselves, will Love and Tolerate you, which many bronies need to learn. Go ahead, have your cruel, ignorant ways. Call us all losers who "stay home from work/school to watch ponies". A true brony will love and tolerate you, maybe even become friends. But I must say, most of those that are not bronies... have not given the show a chance.

Now, like every deviant culture, there are certain extremes that always come from such hobbies. Of course Rule 34 comes into effect in full force with ponies, and you know, that's okay. People have their own ways of expressing themselves, and if it means drawing and/or writing pony p0rn, that's fine, but don't generalize an entire group of people by an extremist you dislike. That's like accusing every American of being a xenophobic Rush Limbaugh-esque idiot. It's unfair, and not right.

The reason most non-bronies laugh at us is because of social norms - boys are supposed to be the tough ones, with little to no feelings, and the women are the ones that are more emotional, and like to have tea-parties and like to watch rom-coms. Well, these norms are changing, and we need to learn to accept it, or at least tolerate it. Men are still men. Women are still women. The definitions of what makes you the gender of which you were born into is changing, that's all.

So yeah, I'm a brony, and I'm proud of it. I'm not your stereotypical guys-guy, but that doesn't matter. I am who I am, Frosty the Pony-Lover.
Hahaha

Hehehe

What would be even better, stop drawing attention to yourselves with rants like this and people will stop caring or bother at all.

I'm what people call a "furry". And I'm not proud, nor do I give two hoots about what people think. What's better is I try not to draw attention to myself which always leads to a negative response. I did that when I was younger and I learned the lesson is that no one cares when you don't give them a reason to care.

And no I don't dislike bronies. A programmer friend in college comes in regularly with a Derpy Hooves shirt, and another friend has a Rarity doll on his bag. What they don't do however is try to draw attention to themselves.

look up "non sequitur" and get back to us on that assertion. specifically, it does not follow that two individuals who proudly display their personal interests on shirts and bags for public consumption are not, in effect, at least attempting "to draw attention to themselves". that is precisely and specifically what they are trying to do with such public advertisements of their personal interests, so my question is why do we live in such an illogical, irrational, uneducated society where common logical fallacies are constantly trotted out and allowed to pass unchallenged?

*edit*

it amounts to intellectual dishonesty and lying so why are you lying? this is my rant. I'm tired of being blatantly lied to on any number of subjects on a daily basis, frequently and regularly, but when I challenge those lies I am the one who is berated and chided as if I did something wrong for demanding the same level of intellectual honesty from others that I demand for myself. I'm sick and tired of the pervasive level of sheer intellectual dishonesty, irrationality and propaganda that pervades our "group think" as a culture and society.

Well hey, I have numerous shirts of my favourite things too, including my favourite furry characters; Mayhem, Jackal Queenston, Mischief.

There's nothing wrong with wearing what you like, but making big: "IM A BRONY AND PROUD" post is when you start drawing the unwanted attention.

and again ... it stands to reason that if you make such public advertisement, the attention garnered as a result is not, in fact, "unwanted". ever considered a logic class?

It changes with the context. If the person is leisurely wearing a shirt or such, people will just ask curiously, and you answer as such.

If you're whining about the views on your fandom, people will see this is sensitive to you and egg you on.

Its logical because I see it happen in real life. Its like DnD, it has a bad reputation as a game played by extreme nerds. However if you actually see the people playing it, and see them just casually playing like any board game, and you ask about it, then they explain, there's no unneeded attention. However if you rant about people thinking DnD is for nerds, people are likely to respond that it is for nerds despite whatever truth.

Do note I go to a college for games programmers, designers and artists, so the general receptiveness of the populace is higher than general institutions.

regardless, the first amendment guarantees the individual freedom of speech and expression by extension. criticism is a natural by-product, but it is illogical to criticise opinion as anything other than being illogically held or irrationally prescribed to. that is the nature of personal opinion. I am not criticising you for your opinion, but rather the statements of fact you misapplied to support your opinion. in other words, everyone is entitled to their opinion. however, you are not entitled to your own facts.

*edit*

if you put it out there, the resulting attention cannot be considered unwanted. the amount of attention or type of feedback is irrelevant so that is simply a straw man and red herring argument.

the resulting criticism from those whose opinions disagree with yours should be expected as well as the resulting praise or support from those who agree. the only thing that remains to be questioned is the rationality and reason behind the opposing or supporting opinions. if you accept and qualify that your opinion may be irrational up front then there is nothing left to debate or question. it is merely a personal opinion and preference to which you are certainly entitled.

another non sequitur logical fallacy. just b/c something happens IRL does not automatically render it "logical" by definition or default. I can cite numerous examples of things IRL that are completely illogical and make no sense whatsoever. this seems to be an inconvenience of the human condition.

Here's a real rant. People need to lighten up a bit. (Ohlook, another efficient rant)

(-note, intellectual logic classes do not exist in academics as the methodology of many subjects incorporate it already. At best a philosophy club or intro college-level course might argue the semantics of logical thought, otherwise you're left with analytical logistics which is pretty simply just resource management

-note 2, seriously you two, lighten up. Yes, there WAS a logical fallacy to argue about but it's not the one that got picked up on (because quite simply the thing you -are- arguing about is not a logical fallacy))
The shadow of the past never dies, so walk forward knowing you can become better than what you've left behind.

how else would you state the obvious? I'm sorry directly stating facts seems to infer a personal attack. I'll attempt to candy coat my responses a little thicker with rose petals to soften the bitterness of reality being injected into the veins of nonsense going forward into the future ... my dear sweet Rose ... there, better?

I don't know why you'd use "infer" when that's not the correct term. Let's replace "infer" with the meaning of "infer".
Ragnarok wrote:how else would you state the obvious? I'm sorry directly stating facts seems to come to the conclusion of a personal attack....
That's not even slightly correct.

I hate when people eat burgers with the paper half around it, so they don't get their fingers dirty. If you're eating a burger, is it really necessary you try to be elegant?

Thats not the point, more so drawing attention to themselves when people dislike or misconstrute their fandom.

I mean jesus christ you bronies have it easy. You're a year old fandom thats comprised of guys watching an effeminate show.

The furry fandom has decades of less than savoury acts from members to try and cover up, along with that CSI episode and the, ahem, otherkin that people like tp generalise the entire fandom as.

Like, give me a break.

The fact is I don't care either, I see no nesd im trying to convince people about the fandom really is because I know what it really is, and frankly if someone has a really out of touch opinion then Idon't want to even bother with them.

Wear your shirts, have your avatars, talk about it in your respective threads; just don't act surprised when you encounter some opposition. And don't say you're 'proud' or whatever because its a TV for petes sake.

So I truly know what it feels like to be a broke ass college student. I've joked about it before, but tonight I hit that thing that is called rock bottom and I understand what it means to look at the real world and crap yourself.

Since I could truly rant for ages on this, I'd like to condense it as much as possible.

I'm transferring schools in the fall which is great, but I need somewhere to live. Because of the asinine timetable that they put in place, I was kept in the dark on whether or not I would get on campus housing until the end of May. At this point, it was rather late to begin looking for an apartment, but its when I had to do it. I've still been unable to find a place to live. In part because any readily available place is out of my price range. I have a mostly seasonal job that doesn't pay a whole lot, so loans are needed, but also unable to be afforded. I can't get another job in my area now to help offset costs, and I can't look for jobs at school since I don't know if I can live there. Commuting is not out of the question, but the total time spent commuting each day would be about 3 hours, meaning that I would likely not be able to work at all, except weekends. I also don't know my class schedule, and won't for at least another several weeks, which would make finding a potential job even more difficult since I don't know my availability. So currently, I'm looking at slowly going broke while commuting 3 hours a day, or immediately going broke and being unable to work to pay it off but living closer to the school. This is also not including car insurance, phone bills, food, gas, books, etc into the mix.

I'm broke as [&@%!], and can't do [&@%!] about it.
