Crepe the Ashlander wrote:Drathen approached Seras, "How could you steal from those that are fleeing?".
Seras turned slightly, mildly annoyed. "I'm not sure if you've noticed, sera, but we happen to be at war presently. This is not a leisurely Sundas stroll through the marketplace. I shall endeavor to donate some gold to this shopkeeper after the war ends, if I manage to protect his life by putting my own on the line. Now if you'll excuse me, I was speaking to our commander, who hopefully understands war better than some."

Korzeth engaged the Argonian, both of them striking and parrying, neither of them quite able to gain the upper hand.

"We still have much of the day before us," Ralvas announced, "I'd like to press on to Almalexia. If we keep up this pace, we shall be there the day after tomorrow, provided we do not encounter any loose Argonian patrols along the way."

Simon roared and charged at the Argonian, brushing aside the spear and getting to close for the spear to be of any use. He brought the edge of the shield and sliced it across the Argonian's throat. He then jumped and kicked into its torso, intending to break ribs.

Seras nodded. "It's a good day for traveling anyway. And if we do meet a small patrol we're more than sufficiently manned and armed to make short work of them."

Of course, right after I get ready to stay here. Oblivion if I can get any comfort before this war is over and done with, Elyna thought grouchily. She considered arguing, but couldn't think of any convincing reasons, so she went back to get her things.

Belvyn swung down with his spear and the blade cut straight through the helmet of the argonian with the battleaxe. Belvyn was still outnumbered as the other two argonians in on him, one sliced down, Belvyn parried, the other sliced across, Belvyn dodged, and just in time, before the other argonians took advantage of his outnumbered state, Vilof charged in.

Vilof swung his battleaxe around his head and smashed the flat down on the head of the argonian. As this happened the other argonian looked up at the new foe, and Belvyn took this as his chance, and stabbed his spear through the back of the lizard.

---

Drathen just sighed and put his head in his hands, "Ralvas, I suppose once we reach the holy city of Almalexia, your men that have been fighting for weeks may need a hearing, to help them in their battles".

Seras sighed and regarded the blue sky, and the hustling figures around him, and thought deeply to himself. "ALMSIVI, Anticipations and every worthy ancestor preserve me from my allies above all things! The fighting hasn't even begun yet and I've been branded a villain and a glory hog from two of my compatriots!"

He shook his head half in sadness and half in frustration and walked over to his mount, securing his new weapon to his satchel. "I can feel some of my magicka has returned since casting that blessing. That's good. I suspect I'll need to use a spell or two when we reach the City, old boy." He petted the Guar.

Irvam lowered himself into a crouch and snuck towards the door. He tried the handle, sheathing his longsword and placing a hand on the blade concealed within his robes.

Jaster jumped into the thick of the fighting. He soon found himself fighting side by side with two Dunmer soldiers. The three of them were fending off five Argonians. It was tough going but they were managing to give as well as they got. One of the argonians missed a swing with his axe and the dunmer to Jaster's left smashed into his face with a shield, knocking him back. Jaster stabbed forward with a powerful thust. His sword pierced the Lizards chest and the creature fell backards out of sight. There was little time for celebration, Jaster heard the whistle of a javelin flying through the air. He ducked to one side yelling out behind him. The dunmer to his right was less lucky, The javelin pierced his shoulder and he cried out in pain, dropping his sword. Jaster turned and ran to his aid, but it was too late. The lizard he had been fighting brought down his sword, stabbing the Dunmer through the heart. Everything was a blur and before Jaster knew it there were two more Lizards bearing down on him, one with a spear and one with a short sword.

"We best be off," Ralvas announced, "There is little here to offer us, and it does not bode well to remain." With that, the soldiers in his party were called together to move out, restocked with what provisions the people of Othrenis could spare. The rest of the day passed uneventfully, as did the next, and without delay the trail of warriors finally came to see the great city of Alamlexia come into view before them, on the coming of dusk on the third day.

The city looked to be surrounded, about it lay two large camps, comprised of numerous makeshift tents and huge bonfires, in which hundreds of Argonians lay at rest. All around the city, more Argonian troops lay in wait, a huge impenetrable ring enclosing the inhabitants of the city within. The dead littered the lands around the majestic gates of the city, both Dunmer and Argonian, and all races in-between, alike. The land was bathed in blood, blood and death.

Once more, Ralvas called a halt and addressed his men. "There lies a concealed passage not far from here that leads into the sewers of Almalexia, and which will take us into the city itself," he began, "We may take this route and join with our brothers in the defence of the city, or we may attempt to break through the Argonian lines on the surface, in doing so, providing a distraction for those inside to launch a counter-offensive against the Argonian forces."

Moryenarn's lightningbolt met its mark and the lizard reeled over as he was set alight, screeching in pain. Meanwhile, Duruza came to Kozeth's side and parried his Argonian foe's latest attack, giving his companion time to make an attack of his own at the Argonians exposed torso. Belvyn's attack pierced the Argonian's hide, and the lizardman drew back, hurling his spear and then turning to flee. The spear missed Belvyn, skewering one of his men instead, killing the man almost instantly.

The door gave way instantly, the hinges creaking ominously, opening to reveal a startled Argonian officer and his terrified Argonian wench. The officer was at that moment pulling on his breeches, his sword lying uselessly at his feet, but at the sight of the Dunmer, dove forward, claws outstretched.

It's lightning, dammit! :P
Moryenarn crowed, his hands' spell flickering into nothingness. He thought of a Conjuration spell in his mind, and cast it, hoping for a Frost Atronach to appear.

Seras rode up to his commander. "If I may, sir. I am familiar with the layout of this great city. I had trained here during my duties as a war priest, and have performed rites of passage in its sewers. They are not without treachery of their own. Poison traps, outlaws, Liches and Goblins are among the various dangers that might await us, even if the passage is brief. However, we stand a better chance going that route than attempting to fight through that wall of soldiers there. I will follow your lead regardless, commander."

Belvyn was about to start sprinting after the argonian, when he realised the spear had killed one of his men, "Vilof, chase that argonian, I want him dead for what he has done", with that Vilof sprinted faster than he ever had before into the crowds of fighting.

"If only my brother was here, he could give you a proper send-off", Belvyn crouched down next to the body and pulled the spear out, laying it down beside the dunmer's body, Belvyn noticed, on his collar, he had a small tag sewn in, it read, 'Fighter Morven Irrindum, Narsis'. Belvyn ripped the tag off and placed it into one of his trouser pockets beneath his armour, before laying the dead dunmer down.

---

Drathen opened his mouth as he approached Ralvas and Seras, "I agree with the Redoran crusader, we should go through this 'concealed entrance' and make haste for the interior of the city, where our reinforcements may be of more help", he sighed, "When have you last heard of a group of fighters this small win against an army that large", he made a gesture towards the general direction of the camps that surrounded Almalexia.

"Providing a distraction doesn't seem like enough of a reason for us to march to what is likely our doom. A few traps and goblins seem like nothing compared to fighting our way through a full army laying siege to the city," Elyna said.

I say we brave them directly, taking up arms and acting as a distraction to assist our allies in hopes of their survival.

"Their chances of survival would be better if we could make it within the walls and lend them support, brother. We'd surely lose at least one of our lives if we tried to cut our way through that sheer wall of invaders. However, from the inside we can help reinforce the defenses. We'd do far more good if we didn't throw lives away needlessly. Of course, Lord Ralvas has the final say."

Spoiler:
I may have to introduce a second character, since several people have dropped out, to keep this thing fleshed out and interesting. This would involve a third subplot and I'd have to ask Duruza if my ideas don't disrupt his pre meditated plans for the war, though.
