Not exactly a funny story - well, sort of, but the joke's on me. Really a story of me discovering two things.
Context: I'm completing Lifting The Vale - finding the old Akaviri fortress full of skellingtons. First I have to get there, so I'm hiking along with my warrior character, bopping a wolf here, a wolf there. I find the Sentinel and get distracted by another wolf. As I turn, I see a shadowy form out of the corner of my eye. What the..? Did the Sentinel just move? NO! It's a bloody minotaur right behind me! And that's how I discovered that, while undead merely annoy me and daedra are kind of funny, minotaurs are indeed scary as hell. Those giant mad eyes always bothered me.
Second story. I find the ruin, march inside. Now, with my main character, I play magic- and stealth-heavy. so even with high skills, my combat is a bit lacking - what I'm saying is that my special moves, disarm et al, don't work very often. I'm discovering that, even at a much lower level, my orc warrior is much more effective in that regard. BOOM you're disarmed, BOOM you're knocked back. What I'd never found out before was that skeletons (and storm atronachs too, it seems), when you hit them with a knockback, explode into a shower of fingerbones, bounce everywhere and then reform as they're getting up. SO MUCH FUN. I'm wasting time and effort just constantly knockbacking skeletons, all through the fort. BANG bink bonk bink bonk bonk. BANG bonk bonk bonk skull over there hand over there still clutching sword. You know the section with the drawbridges? I made a game of knocking them all over the edge. WHOOSH skull goes like a shotput. Fun!
Okay, heres a story that is about a funny glitch. That same warrior character is a daedra worshipper, so he carries a few artifacts around for general use. I noticed that, when my computer is having a bit of trouble processing all Oblivion can throw at it - which is often - Wabbajack sometimes won't work as it should. Sometimes it creates the new creature, but doesn't disappear the old one - so suddenly I'm facing an ogre AND a sheep. Even better, sometimes it creates the new creature, and vanishes the old one, AND all his friends - hello sheep, goodbye ALL of the ogres who were threatening Lady Rogbut. I'm not 100% as to whether they all die when the sheep dies, or just one. Still, turning three ogres into one sheep - quite an experience. Especially for the ogres.

My brother had decided to go on a killing spree, and racked up quite an impressive bounty. He had already killed Rufio and was going to the Sanctuary to join. He got to Cheydinhal, resisted arrest and [&@%!] off the guards, then went inside the Abandoned House. One of the guards folled him inside. Ignoring him, my brother got to the door and went inside the Sanctuary, and the guard stayed out in the basement. Now, when my brother came out into the basement, the guard took no notice of him and started calmly walking away. My brother went into Sneak mode and shot the guy between the shoulder blades, evidently killing him. By the time he got to the body, THE GUARD WAS GETTING UP!! Needless to say, this freaked us out a bit, so my brother shot him again. This time, we saw the message, "Cheydinhal Guard is unconcious". Somehow, someway, this guard had become essential!!!

And one time i was walking around in cheydinhal and shooting arrows up in the air (hoping to hit someone
) after a while i want to the inn and slept there. when i woke up a guard came rushing with an arrow floating in the air beside is head and yelled "stop right there criminal!". This was quite fune because the arow was hoovering in the air like 5 inches from his head!

The shadow of the past never dies, so walk forward knowing you can become better than what you've left behind.

The effect would stop after the first time it knocks him out, wouldn't it?Oathbreaker wrote:Or feed him a poisoned apple, lol.Celestial Wurm wrote:Oh my, that would scare me. An unkillable guard? And actually, since he's essential now and can't die, the glitch doesn't even apply. If you feed a poisoned apple to an essential character that never actually dies, the effect never even has a chance to stop. But yeah, a glitch makes it so that the poisoned apple effect sticks to a guard even after they die and respawn.

The guard in Cheydinhal who is unkillable is the fellow who stands outside of Aldos Othran's house. He never leaves his post to eat or sleep, so there's no chance of killing him with an apple. He's quest-specific, but never becomes killable after the quest is completed*. Basically, he's not going to go away any time soon.
*Far as I know. In the unpatched game, he remains Essential even after "Corruption and Conscience" gets completed. However, ever since I updated my game I've never even initiated the quest, much less finished it. I like having a snobbish captain and a singing Dunmer milling about Cheydinhal, so I leave them be.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

After you do the Dagon Shrine quest, named Mythic Dawn sleeper agents will start attacking you as you wait in cities.

Town of Hack Dirt
I was messing around the tunnels beneath hackdirt, trying to get a bunch of those freaky guys with the scary eyes to attack me so as I could up my heavy armor skill. I was leveled up enuff that when the scary eye people hit me, they would take damage. Eventually, after creating a pile of dead freaks, I took out my Staff of Worms and aimed it at the pile of dead bodies. Just out of luck I hit the dead NPC at the bottom of the pile, and he slowly rose up, pushing the other dead bodies aside as he elevated. The sight of him rising from the pile of dead bodies was really freaky. It was an awesome effect that I am going to replicate again when I have time.

I was walking along the seashore of some lake one day and this imperial legion dude (you know the ones with the bows who you see outside and shoot deer) was walking near me. Then the battle music started because there was a mudcrab near me. I was bored so I let the guard kill it. While he was attacking, he shouted "I've fought mud crabs more fearsome than you!"
There was another time something really weird happened to me. I had just finished the sheogarath shrine quest in border watch and decided to walk to the shrine instead of fast travel because it was close. So I was walking and I see Hlidara Mothril, the chaplain and chief advisor to the countess. As I was walking, a bandit runs from out of the trees to fight me. While I'm fighting, Hildara helps me as most NPCs do. I finished killing the bandit and looting his body so I turned around, and I swear to god Hildara was bald!
