The Battle for the East: A New War for Morrowind

Post by OblivionDuruza »

The Great Chamber was filled with noise and hubbub. As he prepared to enter the throng, Councilman Duruza of Great House Hlaalu, readied himself for what was to come. He took one final moment to compose himself, then pushed open the great doors of the Chamber.

A hush feel across the room as he entered. The others in the room feel silent and looked to this newcomer with questioning eyes, seemingly searching his very soul.

"Greetings brothers," Duruza proclaimed, "I am sure you are all aware of why you are here this night. We come together for a Council unlike any other we have seen in an age. We come for a Council of War!"

The room erupted in cheers at these words and Duruza raised his hands before continuing.

"The Argonians have taken our homes, they have taken what is ours. We cannot let our former differences get in the way of what is right, we must stand firm. United. As one peoples against these lizard scum!"

Again, the room erupted and this time the roar of the assembled Dunmer was too loud for anyone to even contemplate trying too speak over.

All the better, Duruza thought, let their passion burn like the fires of Red Mountain. The Three know we'll need all the assistance we can get in these dark times.

When the din finally ended, Duruza continued his speech,

"Brethren, we must stand as one. The Argonian-invaders have taken much of what is ours. Our kinsman of House Dres have lost their homes, our beloved city of Narsis has fallen to this plague upon our homeland. If we do not fight, soon all will be lost. You of House Telvanni may think that all is well, but you have not seen the destruction. How much longer do you think the stoic Indoril can hold back the tide of war and shelter you from this darkness?

We must retake Narsis and secure the Thir river once more. For the lizards revel in the waters, and they travel swiftly into our heartland.

And we must hasten to the aid of our brothers in Almalexia, we can not know how much longer they will be able to withstand the onslaught on their city, with little in the way of sustenance and no help to be seen or heard of.

This is why I have called this meeting of gravest nature. Something must be done now lest our peoples fade away."

Background Information:
Spoiler:
Basically the story goes like this:

The Argonains have invaded Morrowind at the dawn of the 4th Era. After months of fighting the Dunemr have been able to halt the Argonain advance at the Velothi Mountains and in the Sacred East. However, the Dres have been forced to pull back from their traditional grounds and seek refugee in Northern Morrowind and Houses Hlaalu and Indroil have also conceded much ground.

A pivotal point of the battle is the City of Almalexia. While the Dunmer hold the city for now, the Argonains have laid an uncharacteristic siege on the city and there efforts to prevent the Dunmer from receiving reinforcements have so far been successful.

In response to the threat, the Dunmer Houses have assembled a council of war in an unknown location. Here members from all the Houses have assembled to discuss a plan of attack to rid Morrowind of the Argonain invaders once and for all.

Status of the 5 Houses:
Hlaalu: House Hlaalu lost much of its territory including the traditional capital of Narsis, forcing them to re-locate the House capital to Kragenmoor. However, House Hlaalu remains strong due to its strength before the crisis and have much gold in their coffers to support the war effort. Re-enforcements from the Imperial Province continue to support the House, although their numbers are dwindling.

Indoril: House Indoril have lost ground to the lizard invaders, but their resolve is strong and they fight and die tenaciously for the capital. While Indoril was waning in the 3rd Era, it survived the Oblivion Crisis and Eruption of Red Mountain relativity unscathed making it a House not to be ignored in these dark times.

Redoran: House Redoran were severely affected by the Oblivion Crisis and the loss of their Council Seat at Ald'ruhn. Nonetheless, their new movement in Blacklight remains strong and their warriors will be a force to be reckoned with. However, the warriors of Redoran must also focus on keeping the Nords and Orcs out of Morrowind by holding them at bay at Dunmeth Pass.

Telvanni: The Telvanni were crippled by the tidal waves that ensued from the Eruption of Red Mountain. The loss of Sadrith Mora was terrible, and while Port Telvannis is damaged, it is not destroyed meaning the Sorcerers of this house will continue to fight. However, there are some in the House who do not want to get involved in the conflict because the Argonian invasion has not hurt Telvanni and it has seen their power increase as other Houses suffer.

Dres: House Dres has lost all of it's holding and been crippled as a House. The only house not to have been seriously affected by previous disasters, Dres has now moved it's capital to Solstheim and many survivors have fled to Kragenmoor (A few councilors can be found here amongst the Hlaalu court) or the Sacred East.

The Argonians:
The invaders have taken the opportunity of the chaos caused by the Red Year to invade. They were ruthless in their attacks and quickly took Tear, freeing countless slaves and wreaking havoc before a defensive force could be mustered. However, once fleeing survivors of Dres reached the Hlaalu and Indroil holdings, the Dunmer were able to muster their troops and put up a good fight, halting the invasion. While the Argonians continue to attack, they have skillfully avoided pitch battles against the Dunmer, but with the Dunmer mustering for a counter-attack to retake the Deshaan Plains, they will soon need to ready themselves for battle.

Additional Background Info:
Here's an update for and http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l61 ... heeast.jpg

The shading is Redoran: the red in the west, Hlaalu: the yellow in the south-west, Indoril: the white in the centre-east, Dres: the purple in the south and Telvanni the orangey brown in the north-east. Oh and, green is temple.

Just note these are old territories, the Dres have lost all ground and the Indroil and Hlaalu have lost fair amounts too.

The Argonians have taken the majour cities of Narsis and Tear. The central plains and southern swamps have fallen. The battlelines are drawn near Almalexia and Kragenmoor (the new Hlaalu capital).

Korzeth was sitting amongst the throng of Dunmer, cheering and clapping as his Master gave his opening speech. Yet he wasn't paying complete attention to what was being said. Most of his focus was upon the very crowd in which he sat, his job today was to keep an eye out for potential spies. He smiled to himself at the irony of it all, a spy spying on spies. He stifled a quiet chuckle as the thought became even funnier to him.

Spoiler:
I will add to any discussion, but I'm going to try and take it a little slow at first, this is by far the most in-depth RP I've been in.

Spoiler:
Yes certainly, especially now, and later on throughout the RP indeed. Just check out the old thread (page 48) and post your character sheet there (although it may be locked at some stage, as it is now defunct) or in spoilers here.

"So this is why you called us to Council Duruza," Grandmaster Llathis Hlaalu remarked, "Your sentiment is all well and good, but you know full well that House Hlaalu's troops are needed to defend our borders, to preserve our remaining holds and to ensure that Kragenmoor is not next to fall to the Argonians. How can I send my troops away from here to fight on another front when we have issues aplenty within our own lands to be dealt with?"

"If you will not send troops to fight, what hope do you think you have of convincing the Telvanni Council to come to your aid?" Master Aryon interjected, "The Archmagister herself declined to attend this Council, her stance on the matter is clear."

"We must strike a decisive blow now," Duruza said, turning to his Grandmaster, "my own personal troops are dedicated to the matter, and it is imperative that we act now before the Argonians are allowed time to further mass their troops and to consolidate the areas they have already captured. The longer we hold off, the less chance we give ourselves to fight."

Spoiler:
Also, Believe, don't worry, the initial Council should be shorter this time round, and more of an introduction to characters, and a bit of a sit and watch type thing as I go back and forth between myself :P

Vindaryn clapped along when the others cheered, trying hard not to make himself seem obnoxious.
He was not too ready for war, and he was nervously yet softly biting the inside of his cheek.
He looked around, and was full of hope, their they all were, the great houses, all combined.
"Alone, I thought we were powerful, but banned together. We are definitly a force to be reckoned with."
He chewed on his cheek harder this time, admiring the numerable amounts of other house members, with all of the tragic loss happening to Redoran, they looked small compared to the rest.
Which made Vindaryn more self concious then usually.
But felt comforted when his eyes slowly shifted to his fellew comrades of Redoran.
He smiled at Seras, but wasn't quite sure he noticed.
The dunmers' voices were strong, but to Vin, his thoughts were stronger, at least for the moment.
Regards.

Yes, accepted! And I've updated the OP accordingly.

"If I may speak," Councilman Varvur Sarethi began, "Perhaps it would be best to fall back to the Velothis and let the Argonians fight us on our own ground, in the mountainous terrain they have no love for?"

Spoiler:
Everything you need is in the RP, a knowledge of Morrowind the game helps, but is not essential, a knowledge of the book The Infernal City also helps, but is even less essential, knwoledge of both can come from the Wiki (I myself haven't read the bok for example, but I've studied it on the Wiki). All you really need to do is read the OP and follow along for the ride. If you need more help, PM me or, perhaps preferably, take it to the Roleplays General Discussion.

Spoiler:
It worked previously, so we'll try the same approach again!
In a far corner of the council hall stood a young dunmer with sharp eyes, dressed in a long, wide and flowing red robe. Thing was, nobody noticed, as the dunmer was currently under protection by an invisibility spell.

"Ha! Fools! They think they can bar me from speaking at the council, do they? I'm as true a Dres as they are, stubborn old men!"

"Master. I do believe the current course of action will backfire."

These words was spoken by another dunmer, significantly small and in a robe covering significantly fewer square yards.

"Quiet, Thalurea. It's either this or forcing entry. I believe the latter has even worse odds of succeeding. As long as we speak only when there's this big a commotion, we'll be fine."
Because there's no fun to be found in being normal.

"Retaking the lands of my peoples is of the utmost importance," Grand High Magnate Thervam Dres declared, "yet ensuring their safety is also ate the forefront of my mind. What troops remain under my command are at the disposal of House Hlaalu, for as long as my people are granted shelter by your benevolence, of course," he added.

Hearing Varvur's words, Drathas Andrano, Archmaster of House Redoran, spoke, "House Redoran will continue to support the warriors of the south, and will surely lend troops to the defence of Kragenmoor, but to risk an assault against Narsis?"

"The retaking of Narsis is not the primary action we must take," Duruza replied, "the Argonians are massing to the south, they have already established a number of encampments, one in particular, which lies ever closer to Kragenmoor, and from which they are liable to launch their next assault. My scouts report that it is as yet, not fully manned, and if we were to raze this encampment, not only would we set back the Argonian invasion, we would draw their troops back from the front line, providing relief until more warriors can make their way to Almalexia to reinforce the capital."

Vin's eyes were now locked on to Drathas. Having no high opinion negative nor positive of what the plans may be for himself and the others, or what Drathas has been saying so far, scratching his neck and fidgeting slightly.

Belvyn stood amongst his fellow Hlaalu kinsmen as he tried to resist the urge to speak out loud, so he glanced over at one of his neighbours, he whispered, "Varvur is ridiculous, i'm not losing my estate to the Argonians so he can play ranger in the mountains", he nodded his head, "Although, I hate to admit it, it does sound reasonable".

He waited for Duruza to continue with his announcement, he looked back to the dunmer standing next to him, "I like that plan, a camp that close to Kragenmoor could prove dangerous".

Spoiler:
Do you mean Varvur is ridiculous? It was he who suggested dropping back to the Velothis. Duruza is suggesting striking back into the lost territories. Just don't want there to be any confusion, and don't worry, I won't always be RPing this many characters.

Llathis considered Duruza's last words thoughtfully, "This is dire news, I was unaware of this newest encampment, and I agree, the threat it poses to Kragenmoor must be addressed."

"The threat to Old Ebonheart is also dire," Duruza warned, "The Argonians are becoming more bold, and they are pushing further up the Thir, with reports of sightings as far as the Scathing Bay. We need to secure the Thir if we are to prevent the rapid advancement of the Argonian forces towards Vvardenfell, bypassing the Boethian Mountains to attack Telvannis District," he finished, looking pointedly at the Telvanni in the chamber.

In her corner, Alavesa snorted.

"Ha. That'll shake up those no good magiians!" She mumbled to herself. "Though anything is better than falling back to the mountains."

"Master. There is no noise to hide your voice."

"Quiet, Thalurea!"

Spoiler:
My goodness, you already started.

The captured Argonian, looking helplessly up, sees them quarrelling of who might start first.
''This spoil of war should belong to me, as I have good use for her'' Master Aryon argued.
''No, no, no.. I can trade her for a rare sload.. Rumours go that they are despite their looks very...''
Master Hlaalu failed to finish his plead for pleasure as the pious and chastely Indoril walked up.
His drooling revealed something very obvious. It....

Tralas stopped writing, closed the little notebook as he looked up to the squabbling men.
Why not stop the charade, pick up the feathers and sign the damn papers..
Hlaalu delivers the rare ingredients, Telvanni happy,
Hlaalu gets long term investment opportunities, Hlaalu happy,
Indoril gets their Telvanni reinforcements, their happy.

''A crate of Sujamma and this council can start their own tavern..'' Tralas mumbled to himself.

His right leg crossed the other one, then scratched his chin and looked around.
Tralas, A young mer, who looked skinnier then the buffed martially trained figures that were gathered here.
Little patience that he has, he just observed everyone in the cramped room.
Just trying find something more interesting then this useless discussion.

House Brother Llavyn Zainab stood. "My warriors will continue to hold the western border, as we have always done. Fear not invasion by Nords or wild Orcs, while still I and my men draw breath."

"Indeed a valid point," Drathas agreed, "You must remember Master Hlaalu, that the threat posed by border skirmishes from over the Velothis is ever present. I cannot send my troops away and leave my own lands ungarrisoned."

"I would not ask it," Duruza replied sincerely, "I propose that a small number of what troops we can spare be sent to attack this newest Argonian encampment, and I volunteer both myself and my own men to this pursuit. I shall lead the attack upon the dissolution of this Council, with any who shall follow me."

Vin suddenly signaled his hand, showing his need to speak, focusing on Drathas.
He spoke up, with only a few words to say.
"Sir, why worry so much about protecting our borders when the insides of them are being torn apart?"
He had more of a worried tone in his voice, swallowing hard afterwards, bit fixing his eyes on his house leader.
Regards.

Ka'Virr stood behind Archmagister Aryon, leaning against the wall so he didn't stand out as badly, the cathay-raht towered over most of the assembled Dunmer.
He hadn't clapped or cheered when Councilor Duruza had given his speech and remained stoic the whole time, focusing on the speakers.
Politics, he never tried to get involved with them, but he didn't know much of this head Telvanni from Vvardenfel, much of what the Telvanni Isles said sounded more like the Archmagister was a pesky child playing feelgood politician.
Ka'Virr sighed inwardly, remembering that even politics, no, especially politics, needed to be watched warily, too many governments fell to corruption or infighting because of a few taking personal vendettas above their station's responsibilities.

Spoiler:
OblivionDuruza wrote:"If you will not send troops to fight, what hope do you think you have of convincing the Telvanni Council to come to your aid?" Master Aryon interjected, "The Archmagister herself declined to attend this Council, her stance on the matter is clear."

"Do you think the door is locked, Thalurea?"

"No. Why, Master?"

"Because then we could exit when we decide there's been enough idiocy for our ears, and what course of action we should take."

"Master?"

"Yes."

"There's still no noise to conceal your voice, and you're not a silent person."

"Quiet, Thalurea."
