If Bethesda could get that nailed down, I'd be a very happy camper.
Da_BossMaN69 wrote:dude their will always be bugs with these games, however the way you complain about these flaws makes me feel like you might have an old xbox or one that doesn't work too well, I've yet to have any serious problem at all, certainly nothing as bad as New Vegas.
I also haven't encountered any serious bugs, though I admit I didn't play this around the launch date.

The way development goes, it seems like the development team is constantly refining and adding new features, to the point that it's basically pushed out the door because otherwise it'd never get done. There's no way a game with the size and scope of Skyrim or any ES game won't have a few bugs and need some patches.

It's nice to know that while Fallout 3 was made by the same company, Bethesda, Fallout: New Vegas was made by Obsidian. Obsidian is pretty well known for making either buggy junk or sequels that don't quite live up to their predecessor. So I maintain my hope for the future :D

- Bigger battles: a "war" with battles as big as 10v10 is just lame.
- Bigger maps
- No more cells: I want to be able to enter cities with my horse, open doors without loading screens,...
- Choices: probably my biggest wish, let us have more freedom Bethesda, don't force the Dragonborn thing onto us.
- ...

I'll probably come up with more later.

A larger variety of weapons included. Ever since Morrowind the variety of weapons has decreased.
I don't see why Bethesda won't give us anymore weapons, I mean, if they spend time making items that you can't use at all (perhaps only for decorating your house) they might as well make more different kind of weapons like polearms, throwing knives (and stars, bring 'em back) and axes... spears etc etc...

I agree with many, many ideas here (especially the ones concerning freedom of choice, immersion and consequences of player's actions). But I've read most of this topic in one go and when you look at all those combined ideas like this, what you actually get is "I want Tamriel to be real". ;)

That could be interesting, though generally The Elder Scrolls has been focused on the growing power a single person (the player) rather than other characters so I'm not sure how that'd work.
Abel wrote:- Bigger maps
I know it makes me sound like a stereotypical 'hardcore gamer' but a return to Morrowind (the style, not the setting) would solve most of my complaints. To elaborate: I agree.
Abel wrote:- No more cells: I want to be able to enter cities with my horse, open doors without loading screens,...
Being able to enter cities with a horse: not bad, I can understand that. Wanting less loading screens: understandable. Wanting NO loading screens and NO cells in a game series known for having some of the most vast landscapes in all of gaming history: probably asking too much with current technology.
Abel wrote:- Choices: probably my biggest wish, let us have more freedom Bethesda, don't force the Dragonborn thing onto us.

Yeah, a lot of what happened in Skyrim felt kinda narrowed down the easiest option. The point of a vast epic world is that things aren't going to be really obvious. I want to have to wander around and figure things out! I don't want to just get given the most powerful guild position because they ran out of development time and had to make the guilds short!
thamoirthegreat wrote:My biggest wish is that TES VI doesn't come out for a while..
Morrowind - 2002, Oblivion - 2006, Skyrim - 2011.

I think we'll be ok :)

I totally agree, it boils down to my biggest complaint of Skyrim (and gaming in general) that things have been too focused around simplification in order to bring in a larger crowd of more casual gamers. The reason they removed most weapons is to narrow down the selection to a few categories to make the skill/leveling system more straightforward... though on hindsight since weapon types are 1/2-handed and ranged I don't see why they didn't bring the old weapon types back...

:D Well, honestly while I liked Oblivion and Skyrim... I've been back to Morrowind since then and this isn't a game like those two were. This is a WORLD, I'm genuinely interested in what's going on and I don't mind the fact that fast-travel isn't streamlined. I care about what happens and I'm taking my sweet time learning about how things work and what I should and shouldn't do. Not claiming it was perfect, by any means, but while Skyrim had a lot of potential for the 'human'-touch, a lot of it was ruined by ultimately shallow protocols(maybe I'm using that word too loosely, but basically the guilds aren't that interesting and they're short, and people have a tendency to repeat themselves all the damn time, which ruins a realistic feeling they could have)... for games trying to create a vast epic real world, there is a lot that has to be done.

Ok, I've got one I haven't seen here (I think) - realistic inventory, please. Looting is fun, but just because my character is capable of lifting up a small car (or a heap of weapons which weighs more or less the same) it doesn't mean he should. The weight is not everything - dude has only two arms and his backpack can't be twice his size. Sure, I can roleplay it realistically and carry reasonable amounts of gear, but I'd like the game to do it for me. On the same subject - gold is heavy and rare. So: a) there's no way you'd have to pay for bread with gold, make the currency system!, and b) there were banks in Daggerfall and it was a great idea, because one person can't carry half a million gold coins on their back, no matter how strong they are.

For me current unrealistic inventory breaks the immersion and changing it would not only fix that, but also make planning ahead, resource management and creative problem solving more important parts of the game.

I totally agree, this is just part of a long list of things that should be changed to make things more interesting in RPGs these days. In Fallout: New Vegas(yes, gasp, Obsidian did something innovative) there was a mode to add weight to ammunition so you couldn't hoard thousands upon thousands of bullets in your 2x2 backpack and you needed to eat, drink and sleep to survive. It didn't quite work (well, the bullets part worked IMO, it set a realistic requirement and you had to stick with it consistently) but the idea was really sound, and it adds a layer of immersion that might otherwise not exist. We WANT things like that in our games! It'd add a new layer to games that were getting a little too predictable or easy.
dzio wrote:For me current unrealistic inventory breaks the immersion and changing it would not only fix that, but also make planning ahead, resource management and creative problem solving more important parts of the game.
Agreed. I like having to do specific things to deal with certain situations or enemies, because then it means I can't just get good with 1-2 spells and obliterate everything easily. Things should NEVER get too easy just because you're tough and skilled with a blade.

I dunno, I would find a limited inventory rather cumbersome, like some of the more action-orientated games that might fall into the action with RPG elements category. It may be unrealistic to be carrying around that many weapons or suits of armor, but imagine only being able to carry around one of each, it'd be difficult, and looting would be much harder, something that is an integral element of RPGs, IMO.

I agree that looting is important, but you can't make it too important. And it really is not that hard to figure out. You can have a horse with you and put the loot in the saddlebags. You can only take the most valuable items. You can use magic to transport your unwieldy heap of gear and yourself to the merchant or your hidden stash. You can hide it near the place where you got it and come back later when you need the money. You can create magically expanded containers...

It's not unsolvable and it would make the economy of the world more realistic too. Because, let's be honest, in the good old days in the boring, real world you could feed your family for a year with what it cost to get a good sword or a decent chainmail. And if some backwater merchant could afford to buy twenty swords, he wouldn't stay in the tiny village in the middle of nowhere, but go to the big city and live like a lord. Or at least buy a decent chunk of land and build himself a house. I get that it's high fantasy, but I'd like a bit more logic and common sense in my gaming experience, and making resources and money harder to gather in ridiculously huge quantities would help with that. A lot. ;)

Location wise, I'd love to see this game take place in Elsweyer, a complete opposite of Skyrim in terms of climate and weather. And I'd love to see more on Khajiit culture 8)

Well, it's something that there isn't really a perfectly right answer to (that I know of, at least).

I agree that loot is important, but I also feel that it's more interesting when you have to pick and choose things than when you shovel every item in sight into your Marry Poppin's Handband™.

I'm not really expecting any big changes in the upcoming Elder Scrolls games, but at the same time I think this warrants some interest. RPGs where your inventory is truly limited or where you can't just pick up the heaviest armor in the game and start utilizing and thus you're forced to only pick things that will be important could be really interesting.

Oh, totally agreed.

It wouldn't really remove the lack of looting either, if anything it'd make it better because the really good loot would only come so often and it'd really catch our attention, instead of finding dozens of dwarven claymores of minor flamespewing everywhere you go. (exaggerating to make a point)
MattFlan wrote:Location wise, I'd love to see this game take place in Elsweyer, a complete opposite of Skyrim in terms of climate and weather. And I'd love to see more on Khajiit culture 8)
Yeah, I'm really interested in where the game will take place next. Morrowind was awesome and filled with culture, Cyrodill was (frankly) a little bland and kind of samey, it was more of a 'generic fantasy setting' (<- anyone see a problem with that?) and Skyrim's landscape was great too. I think part of what makes Morrowind so interesting even after Oblivion and Skyrim have gotten a little old is that it's a totally unique and deep theme, something totally new in the grand scheme of fantasy RPGs. If the next game has another vast world filled with exotic things that players aren't used to then it'll be that much more interesting. From what I've heard Elsweyr should be a really varied landscape, I've heard of jungles and desert sands.

Oh God, I feel like a little kid making a letter to Santa (and the title "Wishlist" only adds to that image). Where to begin... well, it seems everyone else has already spoken for me. To put it shortly, I want the next game to:
1. Take place in Valenwood & Elsewyr (two provinces that have never been visited, are part of the Aldmeri Dominion, and are each small enough to fit together into one game, not to mention the change in landscape and climate). DOWN WITH THE THALMOR! Or up with them, your choice. :)
2. Have bigger towns and cities, and more non-freaking-hostile people! I think the reason Skyrim's economy is bad isn't because of the Civil War, but because more than half of its population decided to become bandits.
3. Not force you into any questline (No Stone Unturned, anyone?), but make the ones available to you be longer and less repetitive. Half the quests in Skyrim were just "find this"/"steal this"/"kill this person", and many of them didn't even require you to have the skills related to that faction.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg, I'm not even getting into the skills/attributes or weapons, etc. I know the developers at Bethesda aren't magicians, but they could at least listen to their own fans' requests to implement what they can.
Start the groove.

I'd like a more complex guild system, like Morrowind. In MW, you couldn't join both the Morag Tong and the Dark Brotherhood. You could only join one Great House (without glitching). I don't like the fact that in Oblivion and Skyrim, not only am I the savior of the freakin' world, but I can also be the figurehead of every guild in whatever province I'm in. Not that I do that anyway, I just miss the relationships and rivalries between guilds that MW had.

Also, I want to sail!

This has probably been mentioned before, but I think it bears repeating - once you get to the top of a guild, there's nothing to do, which doesn't make any sense. There should be duties for the Grandmaster (or whatever the title is) - handing out quests, diplomacy with the leaders of other factions or important nobles, administrative problems, conflicts among guild members... The player should get a whole new set of quests after reaching the top position, instead of the faction running itself without the player's involvement.

Personally would like an Elder Scrolls game dedicated to the province of High Rock. Hearing about Daggerfall and its political intrigue always interested me, and while after the Warp in the West most of it was resolved, I do think there would be some nice opportunity for a main quest that doesn't focus on some epic spanning journey. Just a main quest involved with the political mechinations of the province.

You're right.

But that doesn't make the point I was trying to make any less valid. In Morrowind, certain factions just didn't get along with one another. In addition, you couldn't just join every Great House. You were limited to one per play through (without exploiting a glitch). I'd just like to see more of that. For example, introduce a couple different Fighter Guild type factions, but they compete for work and notoriety. Hence, you can only join one.

Ship/Naval system! Action combat like Mount&Blade! Ability to really make 'studying magic' a compelling life.

Player voice would be cool.
Valenwood and/or Summerset would be AMAZING.

Professions, for AWESoME roleplayness! Ability to have an "everyday life". Perhaps as a commoner, or pauper, or barbarian, or scout. Like when in Morrowind, you would ask "my profession", they would tell you what they do with their lives. That would be cool to bring to the table for players.

BIGGEST WISH: Make it for PC. Worry about Xbox & those other whiners later. They won't be able to run the next TES game anyway.

I Haven't taken the time to read through the entire topic so some of the things on my wishlist may be repeats

-For the game to be set in Valenwood and Elswyr maybe adding both Bravil and Leyawiinto make the map roughly the same size as Skyrim
-Maormer as a playable race
-Different suspecies of Khajiits to use, maybe not them all but at least ten
-Later Dlc to include Summerset Isles and Pyandonea
-More variety when it comes to weapons. adding weapons such as Spears, Tridents and Blowpipes would be a great addition to the game
-Bringing back the Oblivion difficulty slider to pinpoint how hard you want the game to be. I would like to be able to play on 6 times difficulty again
-Having the ability to turn off the compass as well as quest markers and cross hair
-Bringing back the Oblivion journal
-Having prominent members of Uesp and other Elder Scrolls websites to test the game as it will help stop there being as many bugs in release
-Longer quest lines for factions aswell as having longer quest lines for certain Deadra
-Having questlines for both Aedra and Deadra and maybe having you choose between which set of Gods you want to serve
-Bringing the amount of spells in the game back up to the level it was at in Morrowind
-Goldbrand

I will edit if I have any more things to add to my wishlist

One of my wishes actually doesn't have to do with game-play. I wish for better save-game management. I wish that I would select one of the characters I have made from a list, and then it would go to a separate page of saves for each character, ordered from newest to oldest. I think this would greatly diminish accidental rewrites, and make the save game list look much cleaner. And something that has always bothered me is that little number that keeps getting higher and higher after every save, maybe that's OCD, but it annoys me.

I want more sea life. Dreughs. Those things freaked me out in Morrowind. And different sea life, of course. Weird fishy-things and sea monsters and bleh. Something to dissuade people from swimming far out into the ocean to the boundaries of the map.
