Re: DLC Speculation
My idea for DLC: at the end of the imperial legion quest line as it is now, add a new series of quests. The first few see the player leading a platoon of soldiers to take forts inhabited by the remaining Stormcloaks. Commands are given using a map. The platoon is split into four squads, comprising different numbers of different types of troops, eg. Squad A has three archers and one guy with a short sword and shield, whereas B has four guys with greatswords. Each fort is split up into a few areas such as courtyard, walls, perimeter, inside the building. Each squad can be told to move to a certain area. Then, the player exits the command screen, joins his/her troops and gives the signal to ATTACK! Each soldier in the unit also specialises in either destruction or restoration magic. As the soldiers kill enemies, they level up and the player can choose whether to level their magic or close combat (archery or one-handed/two-handed). A new skill shall also be added, called Leadership, perks in Leadership include: Charisma (5 levels), each level of which increases the speed at which your soldiers responds to your commands by 20%. other perks shall be: Defence, which allows the player to give the Defend order, Hold Ground, which makes the player able to order his troops to stand their ground in a blocking position, Pincer, which gives the player the ability to give a quick pincer manoeuvre order, ambush, which is a command that can be given to troops hiding in towns or woods to set up an ambush of enemy troops, etc.
The quest starts with a courier delivering a letter from General Tullius, who gives you your platoon and some intel about where the Stormcloak forts are and tells you to read Mixed Unit Tactics, which adds one level to your Leadership.
After defeating the last Stormcloaks, you are sent to attack the Thalmor, who have entered Cyrodiil. You are ordered to attack Thalmor units, defend imperial towns etc.
I think this is a good idea, which gives more depth to the player's rank of Legate.
What do you think?

Todd's already said they're going for more expansions and less small DLCs, and there's no functional difference because all modern expansions are DLCs by default. Talking about expansions is talking about DLCs, and Todd has already given us an idea about what type of DLCs that Bethesda is interested in doing for Skyrim.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: DLC Speculation
We will continue to disagree until DLC is officially recognized as the higher classification with expansions and a new term for what DLC use to be as categories under the blanket of DLC. For example I still see Bloodmoon as an expansion while the Helm of Tohan and it's associated quest line fall under the much more limited DLC regardless of whether or not the expansion can be downloaded without purchasing a separate disc.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:Huntershound wrote:Thanks for the FO3 clarification. Re: DLC Speculation
Look. DLC stands for downloadable content. This means that whatever content is officially released after the initial launch for a game and is available for download is a DLC. This can be anything from the tinyest item pack to an expansion that adds another 200 hours to a game. It is downloadable content. Bloodmoon is technically not a DLC, since internet purchases weren't as prevelant back in 2003. Shivering isles is both a DLC, and a retail expansion. You can buy a physical copy, or you can buy it online. Calling plug-ins DLC is a very common misconception, but as I said...it's just an abbreviation of DownLoadable Content.
An expansion is a product that adds new areas/quests/missions/items and is generally large enough to be considered an actual expansion to the game. Plug-ins are small products such as the addition of a game mechanic, a small number of items, etc.

Thank you for the clarification and the addition to my vocabulary. I can now accept DLC as the higher classification and will differentiate between expansions and plug-ins.Mars wrote:Look. Despite your annoyance, cowl, clarity of terminology is important for a better understanding of others ideas. I do apologize, I just want to make sure I can view each submission with full comprehension.

No, I was most sincere in my response. Us hounds, much to my chagrin, are half civilized. I'd prefer a 70/30 split in favor of the wolf. Which is why any DLC in relation to the Hunting grounds would be great in my book, as long as we get to work for the Huntsman! Will Zurmacht wrote:Hah!Huntershound wrote:Thank you for the clarification and the addition to my vocabulary.![]()

Best idea I have read in a while! Grand! So, I loved the look of completely dark rooms in that new 'game jam' video. Anyone else love a mission in COMPLETE darkness? I know I would!cowleyj wrote:Ok, shall we get back to the DLC ideas?

As long as it's done in a clever, unique, or at least non-irritating way, I'm fine with doing my work in the dark. But what I want best are spears and horse combat, everything else is optional.MathiasFlynnias wrote:Best idea I have read in a while! Grand! I would not mind spears, or horse riding. The latter of which as long as it is finely tuned. If it just didn't work or feel right, I wouldn't be happy. But I still think the idea of utter darkness thrills me most, I think I'd do more than just 'jump' upon running into a cluster of Falmer or Chaurus and the like. Err... especially if I could only hear the vile Chaurus 'clicking' noises they make...

This. I've never understood why they've integrated torches when it's never really dark anywhere. Not at night, not in caves, never.MathiasFlynnias wrote: But I still think the idea of utter darkness thrills me most, I think I'd do more than just 'jump' upon running into a cluster of Falmer or Chaurus and the like. Imagine random encounters where an Orc charges in full Orc armor on a horse with a big spear ... Could make things interesting! I think enemies on horseback would require some extra AI scripting tooMathiasFlynnias wrote: I would not mind spears, or horse riding. The latter of which as long as it is finely tuned. Sometimes it's easier to find things that are out of the primary light source, like ore veins or the occasional piece of loot, but yeah the dungeons are pretty bright overall.

So after viewing a video of what bethesda employees have already taken the liberty of completing on their week off I think the best things they had were Spears, Lycanthropy Perk Tree, Seasonal Foliage, Dragon Mounts, and Wearbears.

A recall spell would be great. Getting attacked by a giant? No problem! Falling to your doom? Poof. Can't carry all that loot? POOF. Baldurs gate did this very well IMO

I dont recall (no pun intended) a recall spell in Baldurs gate...horse combat would be nice however. Im tired of always getting off a horse to kill something. Imagine charging down a dragon on horseback

Re: DLC Speculation
I would especially like to see a DLC where you are invited to join a bandit band. All the guards are always complaining about Bandit raids....let's go give it to 'em! After many missions and hijackings and hold-ups, you ascend through the ranks to become the leader...and then watch helplessly as your band falls apart because of betrayal. Finally you save your band and eliminate the traitors, and from here on out you get:
A sweet hide out
All the gold and loot
A Mass effect style romance
the ability to send your band on raids.
