Re: Things you love about Skyrim
Really? Do they simply not have beardless types, or did you realize that beards are simply the way to go?

Oh, there are beardless types, and loads inbetween, but they're just inferior.

The current conversation is making my hairless Argonian feel a little out of place.
Course, we have spikes. And feathers. And scales. Yeah, I say we're cool enough without a beard.

I'm a Khajiit and I'm not sure if I have a beard. You could say I am a beard.

The fact NPC's call each other by names and have unique conversations when talking to each other makes the game feel very real.

Ring-a-ding, baby.

I wanted to do that with my Imperial, for a kind of "proper" look. Ended up giving him a full beard. :\

Re: Things you love about Skyrim
I love that I can PLAY Skyrim! Oblivion had about everything, except that I had to play a battlemage to do anything and the levelling and stats were garbage. In about every rpg I play a battlemage. Broke out of it with a mage character and a thief character. I don't know why people say bad things about it. You can be what you want from what I see. Also, Skyrim is the VERY FIRST game that being an archer or sneaky is fun for me.

Arrrgghhh. I wish I could play Skyrim right now. I'm very jealous of you peoples.
I use a laptop, and yes I can play Skyrim on it, but it lags too much during fight sequences and some things which makes it very very annoying to play like that. So I'm on Morrowind at the moment.
My friend has it on Xbox and I think he's wondering why I've been coming over too much lately.

Things I love:
The sound of a far-off dragon at night. It's snowing hard, middle of the night in no-mans land in Skyrim. Amidst the blowing winds and the snort of your horse, squeak of leather...A roar of a dragon leaves you doing a quick 360* and scanning the skies. The metallic shriek of your sword as you ready for the battle. The subtle change of music, suddenly jumps your pulse as the dragon roar gets louder. Out of no-where the monster appears, and you're in the thick of it!
Decapitation. Whether it's a quick slice of your sword and a bouncing head down the cliff, or sneaking up from behind and watching the blood spurt as the body slumps down. Whether you use a mace, axe, sword or dagger.
The scenery! I may or may not have accidentally off a cliff, because I was distracted by the gorgeous horizon of trees and mist. Oops.
Archery. ...it's awesome

Re: Things you love about Skyrim
The leveling system is the huge difference maker between Skyrim and Oblivion. And I loved Oblivion. The only thing I didn't like was the pointless grinding to get that perfect 5-5-5 level up. Dont have to worry about that anymore which is great. Freedom to concentrate on the GAME itself. Skyrim is my favorite game of all time.

Re: Things you love about Skyrim
The fact that at level one I had this false sense of security, that I could go anywhere I want and fight who I want at anytime after playing Oblivion. Get my ass handed to me by just about everything short of a mudcrab and skeever. Guards, Soldiers, Giants, Thalmor, Dragons all seemed to me like they were unstoppable orces that would just run me over.
With my sword in hand literally every dungeon had me jumping in excitement when ever a Draugr popped out and owned me in their large zombie hordes.
Now at level 50, there's nothing I fear, I spot dragons in the air force them to land to begin to carve them up, those very same soldiers who thought they could so much as touch me get obliterated by a storm I can just summon with a few words.
Basically the fact that you can feel your character becoming closer to a God with each and every level and perk you gain. It's an awesome feeling when you hit that point when you know nothing can harm you, save for those god damned Ancient Dragons.

So I retired that character.
Something that I find that adds a huge level immersion is the fact that RIVERS FLOW! Every time I cross a river and get pulled down stream, I think, "Awesome, finally a game where a giant river isn't as placid as my bathtub." Its one of those small touches that make a huge difference for me.
The Wabbajack! Huh? Huh? Didn't see that coming, did you?

Got a new one:
After being mostly done with my main character, stuck on my second "main" for the second time, going everywhere on foot and often in a different direction to see all sights... I still do double takes when people mention things they found in the game I never knew existed. I think I'll revisit my first character some more...

Facial hair, oh god, the facial hair.
Let me write a hastily made and sloppy poem about the beards...
Rough beards, thick beards, and some styles wierd, Bethesda finally heared... (Yes, that isn't a word, but it's the only thing that rhymed with beard that wasn't wierd.) We wanted beards!

I like the new looks to races, other than that sadly, idk i got to much hype for it that after the first month, i lost interest, and i feel bad for it i never even completed the main quest, or the major factions.

Re: Things you love about Skyrim
There is way too much to write about this game which I love. Without a doubt one of the best gaming experiences I have had (though I wouldn't call myself a hard-core gamer or anything like that).
I would say though, my favourite thing about Skyrim is the overall atmosphere. I love the fact that it feels cold and dark and hard-edged. It's got that gritty real-worldness (I am sure that is a word
) to it which I really enjoy.

Re: Things you love about Skyrim
This is actually what I love, that Norse, Viking, feel to the game, because honestly I feel with this game it wasn't just the Elder Scrolls "fantasy". It was the Elder Scrolls "Mythology". Everything in this game is just made to be more epic in the sense you really get a feel to the World that's presented, Oblivion to me always was deep into fantasy in that it was sometimes to generic despite its Lore clearly showing otherwise.ReeceH wrote:There is way too much to write about this game which I love. With it being set in Skyrim, it just totally changes the tone for the better, Everything is dark and gritty and to a point realistic, but the way they incorporate the monsters and magic really give you sense of scale and place in the World. Every monster has some lore and background to the story rather than Oblivion were they just put [&@%!] in for the hell of it.
Lastly, the main difference for me between mythology and fantasy is that at the end of the day the myths won't be romantic. In the literary, past/old use/sense of the word. Nothing always ends on a happy note, there's that sense of fear and dread for the future in this game and the endings to most quests are realistic in that you may do more harm than good. Its not like a generic action movie where the hero kills the bad guy and forgets all about it to just enjoy life, In skyrim they show you the hardships/suffering the people face and how much of the world is actually "grey".

Re: Things you love about Skyrim
I love the leveling system in Skyrim, esp the elimination of the major/minor skills and the addition of perks. I was so busy min/maxing in Oblivion I don't think I enjoyed the game 'as a game'.
With Skyrim, leveling feels more natural, and so far (lvl 41) I haven't gimped myself yet. Perks really let you tailor your playing style. Love that!
