Most of the perks released.

Post by River »

This links to a perk guide which has most of the perks in. (seems to be missing light armour). Needless to say it contains spoilers!

Wiki already has all of this information, and a bit more I believe. We got most of the skill pages set up a while ago. See them here.

Where? I didn't find that info in the article, and I'm fairly certain it's been confirmed as a one-handed skill.

It's not under Warrior, it's under Combat (They called it Warrior for some reason). That's what the Warrior skills are being called now. For the record, I entirely support the change. If you're using stealth, you should never have to enter combat as anything but a last resort. If you're specializing in stealth, you should have to rely on deadly stealth attacks and poison and remaining unseen, not on your ability with a bow.

This is a good archery perk; Steady Hand: Zooming in slows down time
That should increase hit probability a bit when enemies are moving.

Does anyone know if there are specific benefits from getting an achievement? For example if enough locations are discovered, there's an "explorer" achievement. Would that benefit your character aside from getting the badge?

Are you sure, I watched the demos and I'm fairly sure it was One-Handed that went up. Plus, the Two-handed perks are for things like Great Swords and Battle Axes.

Reread his reply to you carefully.
You will find that he confirmed what you thought rather than disagreed with you.
Him: When Todd Howard was dual wielding, his one handed skill went up.
You: I'm fairly sure it was one-handed that went up.

You said the same thing.....
Well I somehow botched the quoting... so ya.... oops.

Yes, I see (the sentance structure there confused me, but no big deal, personally I would have inverted the sentence slightly. Which still leaves us awaiting a reply from BossMan.

i think some of the light armor perks will be the same as heavy armor
e.g. x % higher armor rating if all the armor belongs to the same set

I will be very upset if light armor is statisticly the same as heavy armor, I also hope the "light armor weapons" (IE glass) arent used with heavy armor...I found it weird to be using daedric weapons yet be using glass armor, didn't feel right...Also IDK if its just me but in-world the glass sword (1hand) looks like a fish...I wonder how many hits poisons last now, I noticed alchemy with its "poisons last for twice as many hits", makes me wonder if they just mean two hits or if poisons will actually be useful when fighting multiple people, I also hope it won't be as inconvienent as going to the menu, searching through the menu, clicking it, and confirming it every time.

Usually you sneak-attack with bow, not charge in with bow...also magic is a combat thing, yet its not under "combat", and if you say melee combat I will respond with "Archery isnt melee."

It's not my bloody argument, it's how Bethesda has changed it. You can waste your time complaining to Bethesda about how they classify a skill, but it's not being changed. For the record, bows and arrows aren't very sneaky: they're giant, it's obvious where you are if you hit anything near your target or there are several targets, they aren't very accurate, they are useless in close quarters, and they whistle in the air.

Archers are intended to be used in large groups in combat, for pretty much every other scenario, they're useless.

I like playing the thief, but this perk got me a little puzzled:
Spoiler:
Wax Key - Enables you to make a copy of a key for a lock you just picked

Didn't Bethesda already clarify somewhere that locks you successfully pick remain unlocked so that you can't keep on grinding off of them? If that's indeed true, why would a person need to create a wax key, since to do so they need to pick the lock... so the lock is unlocked anyway :?
Also...
Spoiler:
Misdirections - You can pickpocket equipped weapons
Perfect Touch - you can pickpocket equipped items

Does that mean that a good thief can get behind an Imperial Guard, steal all his armor and sword (so he's standing there in his underwear with nothing in his hand) and the Guard wouldn't even notice

Some things (shops) probably relock after a day.
Some keys probably fit more then one lock (pick the lock on the east guard tower and you can enter north, south and west too)

This promises to be awesome. It also means you can get a lot more quest items without a fight.

I LOVE that our characters can't be perfect at everything; that always kind of made me sad in Oblivion, but is anyone else frustrated that we can't even be perfect mages or rogues? There isn't a way to get all the magic perks or stealthy ones. :(

Here you can find all the Light Armour Perks, some of them are similar to Heavy Armour, but not all of them.

Given all the 'staying at level 1' habits that formed in Oblivion I'm rather supportive of the changes. There's still scope for people to develop strange habits though - for instance knowing my selection of perks is severely limited, I'll have a fight on my hands trying to get myself to commit to a single perk until I reach end-game.

Why?

Because at that point I'll be able to try out the various perks en-masse. Dump all 70 points into a tree, try out the skills, see if they are any good (or make as much difference as they claim), and reload my level 70 character to try a different selection.

Obviously, if I find a skill or perk I notice is just so cool I could never do without - well of course, then I'd get that perk with every character that I make as early as possible from that point forward.

It's this difficulty in 'committing' that made the hardest parts of Oblivion and Morrowind so difficult for me. At least indecisive tendencies aren't such a barrier in Skyrim though. Alternating STRENGTH / MANA / STAMINA upon level up seems to be an easy way to maintain an all-round capable character without lopsiding him so far one way as to make certain playstyles too difficult.

It's magicka/health/stamina. Strength is gone. I do wonder of you can save up the m/h/s upgrades aswell. Then you could make the perfect master-savegame.
-Get to max level without getting involved in any quests or groups.
-Save up all your level unlockables.
-Backup the savegame
-Have an instant character of any type that you can play how you want.

Yeah, I know. Staying awake past my bed time did that :)

That's something I'll try, but I guess not choosing these would mean you effectively don't level - and as the monsters get harder to kill you'd end up lagging behind and struggling - but it would be an incredible challenge if it were possible :)
