Currently 1024 x 768 because I've got a square screen. But I'm thinking about getting a larger one so make that 1600 x 900.BootySweat wrote:depends on the resolution of your monitormars wrote:I'll need a new GPU methinks...do you think the GTS 250 will still be good enough?

neither are, and the 9500gt is probably in the 'minimal' settings category.ArgonianAssassin wrote:Is a GeForce 9500GT DX11 capable? For that matter is Win XP DX11 capable? but heck, i played oblivion on a 7100gs for a long, long time.

Skyrim was developed for the Xbox 360 and Directx9 so its specs are pretty much going to be the same as Oblivion ands Fallout 3. Nothing a 5 year old PC could not handle.

On my 6 year old (bought for Oblivion's original release date) Morrowind doesn't work anymore. And I am not that sure that a 5 year old comupter will hanlde (if it will it would be with all settings at extreme minimum).giskard wrote:Skyrim was developed for the Xbox 360 and Directx9 so its specs are pretty much going to be the same as Oblivion ands Fallout 3. Morrowind should work for you mate, it still works fine on my 64bit windows 7 machine so its been future proof.Sznax wrote:On my 6 year old (bought for Oblivion's original release date) Morrowind doesn't work anymore. Regarding your computer and skyrim, remember Xbox users have not had any upgrades either, they are still using their original 360 from 2006. So Bethesda cannot up the specs, the Xbox cannot handle it. All they can do is give PC users the option of using bigger textures and thats about it. So you should be fine.
Regarding the statement by Todd the Dx11 can benefit from improved performance, this is true, newer cards do run Directx better but there is a little, as you will have noticed if you try playing Deus Ex 1 that was made for the 3dfx generation. Those cards where an evolutionary dead end, 32 bit was snapping at its heals and had it for lunch.
So whilst there are exceptions to every rule, in this case, your best friend is the Xbox because it guarantees even you are going to be okay on the PC with Skyrim.

Re: PC specs for skyrim?
A gaming console is direct architecture. A personal computer is not. As such, when it comes to making the game fit into a console such as an Xbox or a Playstation, the developers know all the shortcuts they can use to make it fit into a decidedly old computer platform.giskard wrote:Skyrim was developed for the Xbox 360 and Directx9 so its specs are pretty much going to be the same as Oblivion ands Fallout 3. PCs are far more ambiguous, so the program there must be written to be more 'flexible'. And by 'flexible' I mean it may require more demand from the hardware available.

Might be able to handle it but not well. If you run it on your PC at the same settings as Xbox (1280x720 resolution, low res textures, 2xAA, no AF, reduced draw distance, etc.), then you should get comparable frame rates even with an older graphics card.

Re: PC specs for skyrim?
As the machine gets older, you can expect worse performance, sometimes due to ware, dust or even because you have a large number of programs eating up CPU usage. A defrag or un-installation of some of the non-essential background programs (e.g. virus scanner on a machine not connected to the internet anymore) can improve things a little. But yes, I would say a fair number of the advancements are in the software that Beth has developed, still, I’d be very disappointed if they did not increase the recommended requirements, as that would tell me that they haven’t made as many advancements from Oblivion as they might have. The PC has moved a great deal since Oblivion was released.

Just so evrey one knows, the console are hardily using all of their power, the ps2 for the longest time did not come near its full potential and I'm unsure if it ever did, same for the 360, so it can be better then Obliv and require more then some computers can give
It really depends on how much the push the 360

Re: PC specs for skyrim?
I have heard that too. I'm not sure about the XBOX, more so the PS3. 95% of games released aren't even using the PS3 full HD capabilities. I only assume, there is plenty of room for improvement on both the XBOX and PS3.Wolfie wrote:Just so evrey one knows, the console are hardily using all of their power, the ps2 for the longest time did not come near its full potential and I'm unsure if it ever did, same for the 360, so it can be better then Obliv and require more then some computers can give

In saying that.. I would love to see some proper known stats? Any takers?

Definitely, but the fact is there are none as of yet. Trust me, when Beth releases them, they're coming straight here.

Although, the major framerate problem as always : grass. Will be painful, really painful.

Should be less grass in Skyrim, but I have a feeling that dynamic snow will really chew up CPU usage.

Playing too much Oblivion has made it pretty much useless (it sometimes crashes while turning off).giskard wrote:Morrowind should work for you mate, it still works fine on my 64bit windows 7 machine so its been future proof.Sznax wrote:On my 6 year old (bought for Oblivion's original release date) Morrowind doesn't work anymore. Re: PC specs for skyrim?
Hi! I found the specs of the Xbox360 console on a site. But Uesp dont allow me to post it! So ill copy it instead:
Here are the official specs of the Xbox 360.
Hardware Specs:
Custom IBM Power-PC Based CPU
Three symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each
Two hardware threads per core; six hardware threads total
VMX-128 vector unit per core; three total
128 VMX-128 registers per hardware thread
1 MB L2 cache
Custom ATI Graphics Processor
500MHz processor
10 MB of embedded DRAM
48-way parallel floating-point dynamically scheduled shader pipelines
Unified shader architecture
Memory
512 MB of GDDR3 RAM
700 MHz of DDR
Unified memory architecture
Memory Bandwidth
22.4 GB/s memory interface bus bandwidth
256 GB/s memory bandwidth to EDRAM
21.6 GB/s front-side bus
I dont know much about computers but i think it has somehing like a triple core 3.2 GHz processor, 500 mb videocard and 512 MB ram. Am i right? Its look like pretty low. Is OK to assume the PC specs for Skyrim will be like that? (since it will be ported from the console version).
Thank you.

Re: PC specs for skyrim?
I don't know if it will be ported from Xbox. I know Kingdoms of Amalur is being developed for PC, PS3 and Xbox and NOT being ported from one to the others. I do remember it being mentioned that the PC game will get better meshes or something similar, but anyhow, I may be totally wrong.

Re: PC specs for skyrim?
If you're going to avoid buying Skyrim due to the Steam activation, I think you might want to avoid getting pretty much any game for the PC in the future. Steam is quickly becoming a very popular choice for avoiding piracy. Either way, Steam is quite convenient (at least for me), and helps out the developers a great deal.
