Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
I played a nord in oblivion, after the SI expansion came out, and i named him Loke (in english he is called Loki). he he bascially the Norse mythology's anwser for sheogorath. he is not entierly evil but not at all good either. He is a trickster and enjoys playing pranks (of a sinister kind) on the other gods. plus he is. i think that would be a cool name for a nord who is sort of a rouge character:) fun refference: the mask that jim carrey wears in the movie THE MASK, gives the bearer the identity and powers of the norse god Loki... and that dude is crazy!

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
Daniel only became common in denmark after the viking era where the country, and most of scandinavia for that matter, was christianised. Daniel is a hebrew name used is the bible meaning "god is my judge"dkjestrup wrote:Oh really? I mean, Daniel wasn't exactly used by the ancient vikings right? Yeah I know pretty much nothing about Denmark despite having heritage.the Savage Hippie wrote:Well, being danish I can tell you I know about 10 different Daniels (maybe even more) it's a very common danish name. Well it might not be danish of origin, but it is a popular name in Denmark.dkjestrup wrote: However, Daniel is hardly a Nordish sounding first name, so would anyone have suggestions for a first name?
As far as name suggestions are concerned, you could always stick with a norwegian, swedish or danish name. If you feel that your danish ancestroy is strong in your blood then you could go with one of these names;
Jens, Olav, Oluf, Hans, Orla, Ole, Peter, Frederik, Kristian, Rasmus, Jan, Niels, Henrik, Anders, Aage, Mads (a great name, my name he he he he)
Well.. these are all men's name btw..
I hope you find this helpful.
Thanks for the names, but I think I might go with Dagfinnr. Is that at all common? Apparently it's day-wanderer in Icelandic or something.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
Then it's kinda ironic that I'm atheist...
So my biggest hope for this game at the moment is that I can make a good looking character. Nords in Oblivion are so ugly. Well, everything is other than Bretons, Imperials and Orcs (I mean, as far as Orcs go they look how you'd expect).
Also, Nords better get good racial bonuses.

I play LBP! PSN: dkjestrup, play my Sonnet of the Gargoyle level!

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
It's not common at all. Well, but that's because it's icelandic of origin. The danish names are closer to german names than actually viking names... A name like Dagfinnr would be more common on the Faroe Islands or in Iceland. Norway has some names that are pretty close to that kind of names too like "Harvard" and so on... the most common danish viking names today are Thor, Bjørn, Toke, Halfdan and Bjarke to mention a few..dkjestrup wrote: . . . but I think I might go with Dagfinnr. Search for "viking names" or something on wikipedia.org and see what you can find.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
The site I mentioned earlier also has the table of 50 most popular Icelandic names (25 male and 25 female, with the spelling they used in different epochs)
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.

But why bounce around to the same damn song?

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
Oh look, a thread where I can actually contribute. Too bad almost everything has been said
As someone stated earlier, almost any Icelandic name would do it (isn't it strange that they're all like two meters and have red beards? the men at least) I also think that a name in Swedish would do, seeing as Danish doesn't really make much sense and Norwegian being...well...kind of weak.
Old Germanic names would also cut it, I think. Aerik/Eirik is a great name, adds a twist to the oh so popular name Eric.
Of course, you could always improvise and use letters that sound nordic. Finish the name with ur, ir or ar, add a few k's and ö's and maybe a v. Let's see: Öyjvur, Ayakur, Vafgrökar, Kavflir.

I used to make polls, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
Loads of tne nord NPCs in Oblivion have danish names, males; Niels, Carsten, Holger females; Malene, Merete, Kirsten, Sigrid to name some of them... And actually Hrothgar is the name of a late danish king (who ruled during the viking age in Denmark) althoough the name is icelandic of origin

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
I have used the name Hjolfred since Morrowind. But the Tamriel Rebuilt name generator is your best bet.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
Quick, unobtrusive question here: what is "Red Shirt" in any of the Scandinavian languages?
You know, just in case I want to make a character who'll tread upon frozen lakes pet the fluffy wolves keep the dragons' bellies full test the waters before I commit to a really cool persona.

According to Google Translate, the phrase translates to 'Red Shirt' in both Norwegian and Danish - so I wouldn't go with those

Google translate is god awful...I think I heard somewhere where someone started in english with "How are you today?" and after translating it through everything and back he got something about pickles...forget the exact story.Pobatti wrote:Röd Skjorta = Red Shirt in SwedishDark Spark wrote:Quick, unobtrusive question here: what is "Red Shirt" in any of the Scandinavian languages?
