Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
This might help out. It's a name generator specifically for races from the Elder Scrolls.
http://www(dot)silgrad(dot)com/wbb2/thread.php?postid=13201
The results are a great starting point for me to alter the letters or sounds until I have a solid name that I like.

Search english Wikipedia for "Germanic name", a lot of good nordic names there.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
to feel my character more mine i ever code my name on his name, like the starwars formula not exactly that formula because in that formula the names sounds awful but you know something that sounds like your name or that you know your name is on it although it sounds diferent.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
Thanks! So apparently Nords are generally just referred to by one name, like xxx the white.MrPuddings wrote:This might help out. It's a name generator specifically for races from the Elder Scrolls.

In that case I'll just go with "Kjestrup the brave" or something lol.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
I'd recommend using a concise dictionary of Old Icelandic, useful for inventing your Nord a "meaningful" name
There also is a list of Old Icelandic proper names Feel free to choose

In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
But why bounce around to the same damn song?

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
Yeah English>Icelandic makes cooler words than English>Danish.
Mountain Man -> Fjall Maour
Strength -> Styrkur
Awesome -> ognvekjandi (lol)
chosen one -> utvalda
And that name resource thing is brilliant!

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
"Utvalda" means "chosen" in plural, and wouldn't make a very good name. At least that's what it means in Swedish, and presumably in Danish and Norwegian too. A translate of "Chosen One" would be more like "Utvalde", preferably "*insert first name* den Utvalde" (hinn útvaldi in Icelandic).dkjestrup wrote:Yeah English>Icelandic makes cooler words than English>Danish.

Edit: I found myself playing with google translate myself, looking for cool Icelandic words. Eldfjall is my favorite so far, meaning volcano.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
Well, being danish I can tell you I know about 10 different Daniels (maybe even more) it's a very common danish name. Well it might not be danish of origin, but it is a popular name in Denmark.dkjestrup wrote: However, Daniel is hardly a Nordish sounding first name, so would anyone have suggestions for a first name?
As far as name suggestions are concerned, you could always stick with a norwegian, swedish or danish name. If you feel that your danish ancestroy is strong in your blood then you could go with one of these names;
Jens, Olav, Oluf, Hans, Orla, Ole, Peter, Frederik, Kristian, Rasmus, Jan, Niels, Henrik, Anders, Aage, Mads (a great name, my name he he he he)
Well.. these are all men's name btw..
I hope you find this helpful.

What about Grognak the Barbarian?
Twice and twice shall he be marked, twice to live and twice to die.
Once the heron, to set his path. Twice the heron, to name him true.
Once the Dragon, for remembrance lost. Twice the Dragon, for the price he must pay.

Oh really? I mean, Daniel wasn't exactly used by the ancient vikings right? Yeah I know pretty much nothing about Denmark despite having heritage.the Savage Hippie wrote:Well, being danish I can tell you I know about 10 different Daniels (maybe even more) it's a very common danish name. Thanks for the names, but I think I might go with Dagfinnr. Is that at all common? Apparently it's day-wanderer in Icelandic or something.

Re: Creating the perfect Nord name
My first character will be a nordic lass of a snow-Ranger-y persuasion, and because I've allways liked the name I'm going to take from mythology and call her Sigilinde.
Though names I like from the generator are:
Male
Toralf
Hallvaror
Sattir
Rolf
Female
Runa
Rannveig
Dalla
Anja
