Weapon Expansion Pack for Oblivion Nthusiasts - Phase II

Post by BFG »

Now that version one of WEPON has been released and is available on TESNexus, I'd like to start discussing Phase II and III development with all those who are interested. I will continue updating this post as Phase II and III take shape.

Please let me know if you are interested in working on either phase and I will list you, along with your areas of expertise, on this post.
Spiney, kriscrash, and Ionis -- your participation is appreciated though I understand if you want to take a break. :)

One commitment I will make for future WEPON development is to make sure we have the required expertise. I'll focus on bringing in additional talent from the modding community when needed.

**************************************************
Participants for Phase II:
BFG: ESP design, stats, quest writing
Spiney: Modelling, CS work, quests, UV unwrapping, Collision and so on
Ionis: Weapon textures and designs
kriscrash (freelance): Weapon modelling and texturing

Participants for Phase III:
BFG: ESP design, stats, quest writing
Spiney: Modelling, CS work, quests, UV unwrapping, Collision and so on and so forth
Ionis: Weapon textures and designs
kriscrash (freelance): Weapon modelling and texturing
**************************************************

(Items are listed in the order in which they will be tackled. As with all aspects of the WEPON project I am open to feedback.)
WEPON Phase II Project Plan
Focusing on rework of existing WEPON resources.
A. Orcish and Mithril sets.
Create new meshes for Orcish weapons, that are in line with Orcish armor designs: black metal with some colored accents, ring or lion/hogshead type designs, etc. Create new textures for the same.
Create new meshes for Mithril weapons. Design: Silver with just a touch of Elven?
B. Hi-rez versions of Orcish, Mithril, Amber, and Madness textures comparable to his Armamentium textures. (InsanitySorrow)
C. General improvements on Amber War Axe and Amber Battle Axe--specifically, improve the heads so they are less "flat".
D. Fix texture gaps on Madness weapons, especially Madness Warhammer (ask InsanitySorrow to assist with unwrap)
E. Fix hand placement on Easter Egg weapon (LordFrostCraig).
F. Complete audit of all Armor stats in the game as was done with all Weapon stats (BFG).

WEPON Phase III Project Plan
Focusing on addition of new content.
A. Create and add Adamantium armor (one step below Ebony) to game. Consider using Vvardenfell Imports mod's version of this armor. Design: a dark, heavy, very lustrous metal (like platinum) with design aspects borrowed from Tribunal. Add to leveled lists.
B. Create a complete set of Adamantium weapons: Arrows, Battle Axe, Bow, Claymore, Dagger, Longsword, Mace, Shortsword, War Axe, Warhammer. Weapons should look extremely heavy and durable, and be a dark lustrous metal. Add to leveled lists.
C. (TBD) Create a complete set of Light armor to complement the new Adamantium heavy armor that has been added. Or create a version of Adamantium Light Armor. This item needs discussed further by the team. Add to leveled lists.
D. Add Durable Amber armor and Durable Madness armor as rewards for becoming Sheogorath. (Thanks for the suggestion kris!)
E. The Secret Project, which will not be discussed publicly: Quest writing, weapon design, light armor and heavy armor design.

Optional Projects (can be added as the team desires)
A. Add sheaths to all Madness and Amber weapons, including Vanilla. Modify sheaths for all Mithril, Orcish, and Adamantium weapons as desired.
B. BFG create a compatability pack for Tamriel Immersion Experience (TIE).
C. BFG create a compatability pack for John's Leveled List Overhaul (JLLO).
D. Create the extended Amber, Madness, Mithril, Orcish, and Adamantium weapons covered by Armamentium: Katana, Glaive, etc.
E. Redo Bethesda's vanilla Fine Steel textures.
F. Create Rusty Steel textures for use by MMM, OOO, and FCOM. (These mods already include a Rusty Steel set, but the textures could use work.)

Wow, that's quite an extensive list of stuff to do. But count me in for all of it. Spiney: Modelling, CS work, quests, UV unwrapping, Collision and so on and so forth.

I've been doing sketches for the orcish weapons and will upload them next chance I get at the scanner.

Yep, it is a pretty long list. But while I would like to complete it all, we do not have to. Rather, I see future releases of WEPON as modular - as each item on the list is completed, we do a new release, until we grow tired of working on this mod.

Will we ever get everything on the list done? To be honest, probably not - doing so could take two years or more. But it's certainly enough to keep us entertained till TES5 comes out :)

Thanks for jumping on board again, Spiney.

Glad to be here. I need something to do on my 6 week Christmas holidays. It'll also give me some motivation to continue with my own Oblivion mod: Freedoms Heart. Also having two texture artists around will be a great benefit. :D

Wow that's a big list of things that you might wann be doing.
Maybe it's not my thing or not, as all I'm good at is using the CS, like putting things together and doing dialogues and quests. I think it's a brilliant idea tbh, no one has actually created something like this before.
Anyway on the team or not, it's looking great and I hope it goes well!

You can use whatever I model if it's relevant, but I think the problem earlier was that I felt tied down and had to meet deadlines etc., so if I can be a random contributor of stuff I will.

Thanks! I've pretty well got the CS work covered, though you're certainly welcome to proofread my work, or assist with some of the "compatability pack" projects. I'd especially like a second opinion on whether the "weapon stat fixes" I made make sense, or if I missed anything.
Additionally, we're eventually going to want to write a fairly expansive quest for the "Secret Project" mentioned in Phase III. Do any of these things interest you?

That works for me! At a minimum I'd love your Adamantium and Mithril sets to be WEPON-compatible.

Everyone may notice that on III-C we're missing an armor set. I got to thinking - if we add Adamantium heavy armor to WEPON, we'll have to add a new light armor set too, or there will be more heavy armor in the game than light armor. (We may also want to add yet another weapon set to match.) In a quick search through Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind pages, though, I couldn't find any armor sets that were particularly appealing. As such, the only thing I could think of was a "light" version of the Adamantium Armor. Does anyone have better ideas?

Historically, Adamantium has always been one level below Ebony, so I thought we'd put it there in WEPON as well. That would place the new light armor set in between Mithril and Elven.

Phase III sounds great. Also, the quest idea is a good plan!

Hello all! Since we haven't talked for quite a while about WEPON, I wanted to gauge your interest in continued development. As you know, there's quite an ambitious list of work to do. I'll leave first choice on which pieces Spiney, kriscrash, and Ionis want to contribute to, and if there are any pieces that you are certain you do not want, I'll look for other modders. Just let me know.

Additionally, please let me know what skill sets you are still looking for to assist.

Hi all, I found some existing resources that might work for some of the new pieces of WEPON.

Possibly would work as Adamantium weapons:
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11124
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26490

Possibly would work as Adamantium armor:
Some of the sets at http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26490
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15562

Any thoughts?

Just a quick WEPON update. I have given John, the author of "John's Leveled List Overhaul", permission to include the Oblivion Only version of WEPON in his overhaul. This is because the Oblivion Only version only contains work done by Ionis and myself, and Ionis had already given him permission for the Orcish and Mithril weapons.

Kriscrash and Spiney, I will not give him permission to use the full version of WEPON - your Amber and Madness weapons - unless you both approve. Let me know!

Thanks, BFG

Well, I've had some trouble drumming up additional support for continuing the WEPON project. I'll keep trying though :)
In the meantime, I know that everyone involved with the first WEPON is super-busy now. Spiney, Kriscrash, Ionis--has the interest (or lack thereof) you previously expressed in continuing work on WEPON changed at all?

EDIT: I'd been working on the related quest for the now not-so-secret project and, if the work is ever completed, it would introduce at least two things not seen before in Oblivion:
1. Battle Chess (i.e. a working chess game using trolls, ogres, and other creatures from the Oblivion game world)
2. an equipment betting system where, if you're willing to risk a given piece of equipment, you would get something even better if you won the bet. For example, betting a Mithril Cuirass and winning might new you an Elven Cuirass before an Elven Cuirass would normally be available.

Ah well, a guy can dream :)

I don't know whether you're still looking for a light armor alternative for Adamantium or not, but if you are, I have a couple ideas.

If you want to stick with in-universe materials, I think importing Bonemold armor from Morrowind would work well enough. However, if you're willing to add a bit of lore to TES, you could try Orichalcum; frequently portrayed as a brass-like metal with a distinct red hue it could easily be introduced in-world as more akin to extremely high quality bronze that can surpass Mythril and only be inferior to elven craftsmanship and glass. In our world, it is frequently associated with stories of Atlantis, which is paralleled by Yokuda (homeland of the Redguards) in TES, which gives you a point of origin.
Design wise, I'm picturing lightweight leather armor with this distinctive red metal reinforcing much of it, something easy to remove if you fell overboard while wearing it (since the Redguards are a seafaring race).

Just trying to give some ideas. Since you guys did such a great job with the amber/madness weapons, I'd hate to see a project of yours peter out so quickly.

I've lost interest, personally.

Apart from the light adamantium armours I designed, bonemold is indeed a good idea. The resource is already available http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10775 along with dwemer armour, both Morrowind style.

Thanks!

If anyone is interested, I posted a poll on Bethesda's forums for WEPON's future direction. I talked about future possible additions (Stalhrim, Adamantium, and the now-not-so-secret Chaos) and asked what the community would like to see. I didn't mention Bonemold, Dreugh, Orhicalcum or any other such sets but those are other directions that could easily be taken.

For the short term, I am focusing on what resources already exist that could be utilized. For example, while I know kriscrash has shown off some awesome weapon designs including Adamantium, those still have a ways to go; and the community seems to have little interest in creating new armor sets at this time. So I've proposed two existing sets to be used as Stalhrim and Adamantium. (If there is a chance/desire to upgrade the armor and weapons in the mod later, great!)

Anyway, your feedback would be appreciated. The link is here:
