Hi H8ball you are late, I used a tweaking guide to figure out it all

Trees not being rendered?

No, trees are rendered, turns out the _far trees are NOT included in vanilla Anequina, but come from the RAEVWD mod, which I hate, and will not get. Not even their tree meshes, the optimization is CRUD, generally a 50% reduction from the normal mesh, instead of removing 90-95%, or making flat image plane trees like normal Oblivion distant trees. Did I say I really hate RAEVWD?
Ugly shadows on NPC's?
bActorSelfShadowing=0
> 1=on, 0=off. Default=1. Turns self-shadowing on/off for actors (NPC's and Creatures). Your pic of the Golden Saint Guard shows it's on, so make sure you have the options below set correctly. If you can't get self-shadowing to look correct, turn it off.
If this is 0, there will be NO shadows. I don't like having people with no shadow under their chin and stuff.
iShadowMapResolution=256
> Texture resolution used for shadow maps. Default=256. You can set this to a power of 2, e.g. 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048. Lower means blockier shadow edges. Higher means finer detailed shadow edges. The lower you set this, the higher iShadowFilter needs to be to blur shadow edges.
iShadowFilter=2
> Number of passes used for blurring shadow edges to create soft shadows. Default=2. You can set it higher for softer shadow edges. Some people like it at 5 or even 10! Warning: The more passes the game is using, the greater the performance impact of soft shadows. It's better to leave it at the default and increase iShadowMapResolution instead.
This was actually the problem. Even with ishadowMapResolution=2048 it's still a little rough, so I think I'll just stick to the filtering to soften stuff up. I should note that for direct sunlight, feathered shadows are VERY unrealistic, so a dynamic filtering vs resolution dynamic tweaker would been awesome.
(If interior, use filtering>0, else, use high resolution)
My settings are bActorSelfShadowing=0, iShadowMapResolution=1024 and iShadowFilter=3. I don't miss self-shadowing, but I like my shadows fairly finely detailed and soft-edged.
In my opinion, the filtering had the biggest benefit on self shadows, but I know that is very opinionated. I also do not use antialiasing, which definitely will affect your experience with this?
Thanks for taking the time though.
A mod must have altered these settings previously, as I have never touched them.
