Perhaps things won't be so boring at all. The girl beside Malan, Clara, interested him. Perhaps because she was new (but so were many others). No...her freshness wasn't it...it was because of what she said. "...otherwise you'd probably either hate or fear me."
He had opened his mouth to inquire, however his question was cut short when Fjolnir gave her an angered, cruel-looking glare. After his bought of silent (and therefore dangerous) rage receded, he had not the chance to attempt to ask again. She continued talking, mentioning the headmaster and the, ehem, absence of certain students. For a third time, Malan hoped to get out a question, but was thrice again silenced, now by the boom of Fjolnir's voice. "VAKERIAN! OUT!"
The students paused, turned their heads. Clara stood up, began to take a step, but then Malan rose to his fit as well. "No, sir, it's not her fault. I'd mentioned something to her, and she was just responding...it was completely innocuous." Clara seemed to be a bit surprised with Malan's defending of her.
"Innocuous? There is nothing INNOCUOUS about disrupting my class and distracting other students, to whom this class might actually be important."
Malan's Breton pride had been chipped with what he believed was the nerve in the professor's rebuttal. "Nobody gives a goblin's sh*t about your class, Fjolnir." This seemed to strike just the right (or wrong) chord in the Nord's being.
He didn't yell. Simply spoke, "Mr. D'argent. Leave with her as well. I will see you..." he took a breath, controlling whatever fire was certainly smoldering inside him. "...in detention." His voice rose, just barely. "NOBODY disrespects me in my classroom."
Half of Malan's heart sank. He had actually spoken back to an instructor.
Those are the sort of things that have gotten students expelled before.
The other half, though, the proud half, was glowing in satisfaction, knowing it had successfully gotten a reaction out Fjolnir.
A student coughed. Malan began walking down the aisle beside his seat, looking at Clara. He mouthed the words "You owe me" with a grin.
I missed it here.
