Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
Roland hadn't seen these people before, surprisingly. Unlike the unsavory folk he was used to down in The Legless Goat. This wasn't something he wanted to do, but having to deal with the scum at that Jiejos-forsaken tavern every day is nightmarish compared to just about any other occupation. He wondered how his "resignation" would go with Otto, the owner of the pub. Although Otto wasn't known for shooting the messenger, Roland doubted Otto's daughter would easily go forth to tell her father that his best, non-moronic bar hand had just quit by means of pillow talk the previous evening.
Roland ran a partially clean hand through his flowing blond hair, running the different future scenarios through his mind.

Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
Nu'Wai hung behind and to the right of the group. He reached back and pulled the band holding his brown hair into a short pony tail. It fell around his face down to his chest. "What kind of a group is this?" he muttered cynically. "Where's the dumb muscle?" He let out a cold chuckle at the group. "You honestly expect a bunch of pickpockets and politicians will get you through a battle? You're all crazier than you look." Nu'Wai reached into the pocket of his breeches and withdrew a small bag of coins. "First one of you sorry lot to kill something gets a hundred gold." He chuckled again, the coldness hanging in the air.
And on the eighth day, God created Thermodynamics, and it was good.

Aicantur prayed to the Jiejos God, his great example
, and followed the rest of the party, meanwhile examining them.
He shouted at the others. "Hey, I'm Aicantur! Used to serve in the military. Let's head to the market first. I can lend you some money or, if you have a good reason, give it to you for free."

Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
'Squabbling idiots...' Roland thought in the confines of his own mind. He hadn't been with this group 10 minutes and could already tell that his dream of being with group of scholarly intellects was crushed to nothing and they were going to be as uneducated as the slime he had dealings with at The Legless Goat. But if there is one thing he learned from being on the run from high authority, it was who dares, doesn't often succeed. And Roland was in no mood for darers.
Roland brushed past the two violently bickering Elves, and made his way to the back of his group to see a short man who held a bag of coins above his head, and was attempting to address the others. He had heard his remark about the group consisting of thieves and politicians. Roland knew that even though he was neither, he was being classified in that group too loosely, and by a man who clearly spoke before he thought.
Roland approached the short, thievish looking man and drew his silver short sword with a sporting precision. In one clean move, he sliced the small amount of room between where the gold in the sack lay and the man's hand. The bag dropped to the floor, spilling its shiny contents to the ground. His swing impressed himself, as dueling was becoming more of a lost art to him, as his memory remained haunted by it's bloody and unfortunate past.
He followed through his swing by bringing the sword up to the short man's chest, blade parallel to his ribs.
"Will you serve your own wager?" Roland asked. The man was armed, and undoubtedly knew how to use his weapons.
"Although I'm generally not inclined to start our masquerade of an adventure off with in-fighting, and I'm sure neither are you, despite your unintelligible remarks, but the likes of you are the last I wish to harbor."
Stunned, the man stood there without further rebuttal.
Roland walked away without further discussion, ignoring whatever looks the group might be giving them. He walked past the two High Elves, who looked at him. He shook his head at the taller one, who had offered to provide money to those who needed it. Roland knew he probably needed it more than these aristocrats and criminals, but he wasn't really for free handout's, lest he share his life story with them.
Roland sat down on a nearby barrel. He opened a medium sized sack he had on his back and withdrew a book. Fundamental Astronomy. His skills with a blade might have dulled since his time at the University five years ago, but he assured himself his scholarly intelligence would not. His education was a commodity in times like this; useful, rare, and if kept well maintained, valuable. Although his outstanding arrest warrant proved to conflict with any leverage he might obtain from his knowledge, he would never let it fade.
He opened the tome and began reading.

Nu'Wai shook his stupor away and left his coins on the ground. No one had treated him like that since he was a child. He put on a stoic face and moved toward the man who had threatened him. He studied
"Well, I'm glad one of this party could act like a man and stand up for his pride," He said, his eastern accent heavy. He held out his hand in a show of civility. "They call me Nu'Wai. And yes, I do have the courage to serve my own wager. However, I assure you, if you ever do mean to kill me, it won't be nearly as easy as it would have been moments earlier."

Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
Lomonance surveyed the rather large group, assesing all the tactical roles they might play in future battles to come. Most had little or no armour. Only one wore armour heavier than his, Ivan Peterson. Mentally, he noted him down. To him the others were either thieves or scholars only seeing one other with a ranged weapon. Though seeing one of the 'scholars' display impressive skill with a sword made him re-think his outlook on this group and he reminded himself not to see people as stereotypes.
He checked his most prized possesion- his crossbow. A mechanical master piece he spent many late nights working on. The frame was built out of the best dwemmer metal he could have imported. The stock was made of heavy wood just to have some "feel" to it while aiming. Its lathe was crafted out highly flexible wood and the string was a finely made metal cable. The trigger was quick and accurate and he had also constructed a 'clip' that prodruded out from the side.
But even with all it mechanical beauty, it was still ugly, cosmetics wise, for it it was built for functionality not looks. He sheathed the weapon on his back hearing the solid click as it locked into place.
As the group walked into the town he saw the human who had put on that sword display earlier on sit down and pull out a tome. Lomonance decided he'd start good relations with him. But before he could the theif 'Nu'Wai approached the human and started yelling, asking for a fight. As much as Lomonance would like to see a fight, he decided that this wasn't a good time for this. He stepped between them pushing Nu'Wai away.
"I'm sure we all have courage and honour here but this isn't a good way to display it. So if you would like to fight, wait till we get outside, Okay" Lomonance exclaimed trying to keep his words as acceptable as possible.
Nu'Wai looked angered, but stormed off. Lomonance sat dow on a crate next to the human who was reading and introduced himself.
"Lomonance, Lomonance Lortanton, smith and inventor." The human chose to ignore him and continue reading but Lomonance kept talking "That sword display of yours, was it that nessecary, I don't think you've given everyone a good first impression, esspecialy that Nu'Wai. But me, all I saw was a skilled swordsman, we'll need that in the road ahead of us. So i'm glad your with us." Lomonance lent back not caring if the human kept ignoring him. He just smiled and hoped he stayed on his 'good side'.

Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
I stood in what looked to me like the dead center of the group. As I looked around at the massive group of people I was supposed to work with, I rolled my eyes at two fights breaking out within the group: one person was punched in the face because he tried to beg money off of another person; then someone else in the back called everyone thieves and politicians, only to have a bag of gold cut out of his hands.
"Seriously?" I called everyone out on it. "We're going to start the infighting already? I know we all want to kill something, myself included. But killing each other will just hurt everyone in the long run. So, please, save your anger for something more threatening than a beggar or a sarcastic elf."

Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
Spoiler:
The words were both comforting and disturbing to him. He looked over, breaking his eerie trance from the book, to see a palm placed before him. As soon as Roland made the decision to accept it by returning the gesture, the man was cast aside by a tall, thin Elf. And although Nu'Wai was reprimanded for instigating a fight, Roland knew that the action was simply precautionary, and he would address the bold man later with good intent. He ran his eyes back into the words of the text as the Elf sat down nearby and turned to him.
The Elf introduced himself as Lomonance Lortanton, a familiar sounding smith. He spoke a short monologue to him, in lieu of Roland's silence. He appraised his swordsmanship. He sounded apprehensive of Roland. This isn't good, Roland began thinking, still looking at the book but not reading a word on the page he stared at. Not only do they expect me to be a half decent fighter, they think I'm violent, he thought, regarding the coarse voice in the background of a human, outraged at the two recent encounters. Better break the ice before they become too scared of me. Lortanton. A familiar name. Roland had heard about it when he was young, his father had mentioned it. It was the name of a family of Elf smiths. His father had traded with them before.
"Lortanton..." Roland began, snapping the astronomy book closed in a fluid, scholarly motion. "Now that's a name I haven't heard in quite sometime." Roland was careful to be unspecific about when exactly he last heard it. He looked over to see the Elf smiling at him. "Ever hear of a man named Fredrick Jaeger, Lomonance?" Roland peered at him with interest.

Lomonance was pleased to here the human reply, asking him if he knew a Fredrick Jeager. Of course he did. A wealthy merchant that occaisionally traded with his farther. He could remember nearly all the merchants his farther traded with.
"I indeed do. He's traded with my farther on a few accounts. I presume your his son, or am I mistaken" Lomonance replied, making a guess but leaving a place for error.

Aicantur got slightly annoyed by some of the other party members. He ran past them, climbed on a rock and shouted:
"The King sent us on a mission. We don't know when the Mist Kingdom is going to attack and when they do, they'll slaughter everyone who's dear to you, including your children and your wife or husband. We don't have time to read a book or stay here for a nice chat. So get your asses over to the market district, buy some gear and then let's get the hell out of this city and make our way east!"
Some people nodded. Others looked slightly annoyed or were about to say something.
Aicantur turned around and sprinted to the bottom of the stairs and followed the path to the market district.

. You can now buy your first spell(s). Here's the list of spells:
Combat spells
Fire Damage [1]
Shock Damage [2]
Frost Damage [3]
Damage Health [4]
Shield [5]
Fire Shield [6]
Frost Shield [7]
Shock Shield [8]
Restore Health [9]
Non-combat spells
Water Breathing [10]
Water Walking [11]
Open [12]
Feather [13]
Jump [14]
Invisibility [15]
Light [16]
Night-Eye [17]
If everyone buys a Fire Damage spell, you're not going to last for very long. We want you to work together. So if the party encounters an enemy with a weakness to fire, let someone with a fire spell perform the first turn! Be nice to each other and always try to help out the team.
Some tips, to help you out
Shield spells aren't that useful in the beginning. The first battles will be short, so you can get used with the system, so a shield isn't that useful. So grab a healing spell and some offensive spells.
Don't ignore the non-combat spells. During some parts of the story you'll need them and if no one can cast them, we'll give the team some penalties which might involve backtracking to buy the spell.
And discuss your spell purchase with each other! If you want to buy a spell / some spells, roll the dice to determine the cost for every spell and post them here (including the spells you've bought).
Once everyone is ready, I'll make a new post that you can now update your signature. DON'T UPDATE YOUR SIGNATURE BEFORE YOUR PURCHASE WAS APPROVED.

Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
Nicolas, who had decided to keep his mouth shut through most of the conversations, pulled his sack of fine goods over his shoulder. He hated High Elves - hated them with a passion. But he knew that he would have to work with these men if they were to survive the winter. He watched his breath as it was released into the harsh, cold air. His hands were cold, and his face becoming ice. The keys hanging from a thread of leather at his waist rang as they tapped against each other on the ring. His glowing shortsword of silver, sheathed within a scabbard of which an ancient term was engraved, was at the opposite side of his waist from these hundreds of keys. He let a breath of hot air onto his hands. He looked over his soulder where two large axes rested over his back.
He walked near Ivan Peterson, who wore a large, heavy suit of armor. "Hello." he said quietly. "I'm Nicolas Jahk."

Llylania grinned excitedly. "I'd like Frost Damage, Restore Health, Open and Water Breathing please." She glanced around at the others and slipped a few extra coins to the merchant (50 to be precise).

Aicantur spotted Llylania and tried to offer her financial help. This offended her though so Llyliana grabbed a tennis racket and smashed him on his head. Aicantur was dead. The end (of his story).

Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
Spoiler:
He also noticed a small wooden stick with a circular end being smashed into someones head which was brutal, but that was the way of these peasents. Prehaps one day he would gain a name within them and be all powerful, each and everyone having too bend too there knees too salute him, but for the time being his money would have too keep him happy.
He saw that most of the men had headed into the magic shop, with its wooden sign hanging down from it, he knew this is where he was heading. He pushed the door aside and headed inwards.
Inside the shop there were many dusty scrolls and weird things in jars, but he ignored these and headed over to the people.

Re: Alexenaria - High Fantasy RP, you'll need a dice!
Note: if you have 1000 gold, you can only buy a spell if you're very lucky (you need to roll 1 or 2). Of course you cannot keep rolling, the merchant will refuse to sell that spell to you.
So for every store we visit, you have 1 chance per spell to buy it. If you don't have enough money, better luck next time.
You're free to post multiple attempts in one post.
For example:
X1 = 3, cannot buy Fire Damage
X1 = 4, cannot buy Frost Damage
X1 = 2
, I can now buy Shock Damage
Play it fair, don't roll the dice until you roll 1 or 2.
The following is not allowed:
You roll 3. Oh crap. Hm let's choose a really crappy spell: Water Breathing.
You roll 2. Yay! Now I can get Fire Damage, the spell that I really wanted.
So first choose your spell and then roll the dice
.
You can give money to each other but don't update your stats until I approved the transaction
. Vivec's Tears has the most money here so go to her if you need gold
.
EDIT: Jargir also has 10.000 gold
