JOSJIE's questions
Spoiler:
Q. Do you think you'll still be here when TESV comes out? And are you going to buy TESV?
- A: I see absolutely no reason that I wouldn't be here. Why? Do you know something I don't? Is that a threat? Anyway, I'll definitely be buying TES V when it comes out.
- A: I'm really really really really REALLY lazy, so most definitely. I just hope games don't keep with this same trend of dumbing things down.
- A: I don't "believe" in aliens, but I'm open to the idea. I've heard it said that's it's rather arrogant to think of us at the only intelligent beings in the universe, and I tend to agree. Couple that with the sheer statistical data of the massive amounts of planets in the universe and it's not difficult to imagine a plethora of planets dotting the galaxies with intelligent life.
- A: To be honest I can't really pick a favourite between the big three: Oblivion, Morrowind, and Fallout 3. Each is completely rewarding and fun in its own way, and I love them all for different reasons. If I had to choose one I'd have to go with Fallout 3 I guess, because I get more enjoyment out of it overall, I think. It takes everything from Morrowind and Oblivion that I love and mixes them with a post-apocalyptic world which is just amazing. For you nay-sayers out there, don't worry--Morrowind is VERY close on its heals as second place.
- A: No, I wouldn't. I love their games and video games in general, but I don't think I'd wanna be in the industry.
- A: I'm LEAVING The USA, so that makes no sense. Assuming this is in the future and I live in Germany or whatever... no I wouldn't. I'm leaving for a reason and Bethesda won't change my mind.
- A: I have no idea, technically. I may have lurked or I may have signed up and registered instantly. I honestly have no idea. People think I jest, but I have a number of er.. neurological conditions that impair my memory. It happens. I registered 14 September, as can be seen next to my posts, and I first posted a few days later with the name of a character I made.
- HD television with some movies, Lord of the Rings, Monthy Python etc.
- Computer (no internet connection!) with Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3.
- A: That's a hard choice, especially since you mention Monty Python. If I could have all three games as suggested by your question, I think I'd choose that. Not that it's better than Python, I'd just ultimately get more enjoyment out of thousands of hours of gameplay from the three games as opposed to a couple hours for the movies. Plus you can replay them and have fun and that's not so easy with movies.
- A: See the above question.
- A: Not really. I actually really hate it. I always feel a bit uncomfortable when it comes up, but it's my job and I have to so I just suck it up and go for it. Ultimately it's for the best as I think I make the forums a better and more enjoyable place to be. You guys should try it sometime. I'm the only one that gets anything done around here.

- A: It was my idea. Actually it wasn't. ACTUALLY I don't remember the conversation when it happened, so it may have been my idea. I dunno. I'll take blame if you want. Anyway, I'm 100% behind it. Post count is utterly meaningless and just promotes spam by a lot of people, and as this is first and foremost a TES message board, only TES related posts should count.
- A: Well, my job requires I say Morrowind, but I'll admit I post a lot more in General. In the great Post Count Loss of 2009 I took a MAJOR hit in post count, which I actually liked because my 3000+ posts made me feel like a huge spammer, despite a mere 4/day average. Guess it just adds up over the years.
- A: Oh boy. Um.. ask Codex. Every day? There are a lot of things I really love about being a Mod, like a sense of accomplishment and the way people started commenting on how the forums had improved within the months following my appointment. There are, however, lots of things I hate about it. Overall it's more rewarding, but there are times when the stress makes me want to just give up. Luckly Caz and Codex are incredibly
annoyingstubbornsupportive and they've helped me through it each time.

- A: I saw someone play WoW once. Pass.
- A: Um, yknow those Imperial beggers in the Waterfront? Imagine "Cactus the Crippled" and you've basically got all those questions answered.
Spoiler:
Q. What originaly brought you to the forums?
- A: Funny story, that. I actually have absolutely no idea. Wait.. I answered this question for Kestral recently.
- A: Generally-- I stayed were the friendly people, the open nature of everyone here, and just the sense of comradery and fun this place had while still being a center for knowledge and information involving the games, and if you'll take a look in General, any other random thing you may want to know about.
Specifically-- Weka and Jeff. I was an Oblivion fan at the time (okay well.. I still am) and they were very active at the time in the Oblivion forum. They were both incredibly friendly and caring and helpful and it just instantly made me feel at home. I think their absence here is one of the saddest things I can think of. I miss them both.

- A: Well, becoming mod, actually. See, I became mod like.. last December or January, but it was in the works for about three months prior. Not only that, but I actually quit the forums and found out about a week later Codex had been looking for me to ask me a question. I finally caught him online and asked him what was up and he basically said "Well, I was gonna make you a mod, but I guess I'll find someone else." at which point I proverbially fell out of my chair and told him I'd return to the forums post-haste.
- A: Apparently Codex and some others did. I was hoping to get access to secret "Why did we pick Cactus?" information when I got access to top-secret Moderator files kept in a secret military bunker in Arizona, but as it turns out it must have taken place completely over MSN and they didn't bother with transcriptions. Either that or Codex picked me because my name starts with the letter C. It's probably that one.
- A: I think you're gorgeous, man!
- A: Dogmantra, of course.
- A: Dogmantra, of course.
Spoiler:
Q. Will you be my friend?
- A: You're already in my top 5. What more do you want, man?!
- A: Every pair of socks I own is identical to every other pair, so I'll just describe my socks generally. They're all black and made of cotton. When word "properlly" they stretch up to about halfway up my calf. When I wear shows, however, I always pull them up all the way, slip on my shoe, then push them down so they bunch up.
- A: "Ricky ol' chap, pick up a few German lessons and start saving up money. In five years you're gonna be severaly screwed over and you'll need it. Trust me on this."
- A: I almost always wear socks.
- A: Personally I don't know how, but I think it looks nifty. I secretly want to learn to tap dance. I don't think I've ever told anyone that.
- A: It looks nice as long as it isn't overused. It's cool here.
- A: Depends on the bubble. Blowing bubbles with soap = awesome. Blowing bubbles with chewing gum = lame.
- A: A few times whilst playing drums in my band and I did a couple school plays or whatever in lower grades, and I once had a recorder recital in like.. kindergarden.
- A: Can I think about it?
- A: Because of my humility I'm already the most awesome and greatest person ever. Why would I want to be anyone else?
- A: A bit more control over my emotions. I used to control them like they had toggle switches, now I have difficulties.
- A: Green is my favourite colour!
- A: When I went to put Fallout 3 from "Normal" to "Very Hard" and learned I'd been playing on Very Hard for ages without noticing. No, I'm kidding. Graduation high school, maybe? I mean.. I didn't even care about walking and I was gonna do the whole cap and gown bit, but my grandfather made me, paid for it all. Looking back I remember feeling spectacularly proud that 14 years of crap was finally behind me.
Another moment that rings true though fewer people will understand is when, after two years, my brother and I finished our first album with our band. The day the discs arrived at my place and I was looking at 50 shrink-wrapped discs with my band's name on it. Tht was a proud moment. A lot of hard work and effort and time went into it, and it was nice seeing a physical result.

- A: Sensible questions are nearly as informative about a person as silly ones, so no I don't mind at all.
- A: I prefer UK spellings for two simple reasons. By which I mean three. First of all they're "correct" in that they're older and the American spellings were changed by my great-etc-uncle just to be different from England. Second, I just think they look better, to be honest. Color vs colour? Colour looks niftier. Plus the US has this thing where using a UK spelling makes it fancy, like magazines naming themselves Glamour magazines because it looks fancy. Idiots. Still has this certain flair to it because of that. Thirdly, I have a significant number of UK friends, and I'm sucking up.
- A: I'd ask you why you randomly handed me all that stuff, because I'd be curious as to why. My first impression is that YOU had a reason.
- A: I think a traditional parabola, actually. Heroes started off really strong and stayed that way, then because of the Writers Strike it dropped in quality because of a bunch of last-minute rewrites and then having to base an entire seasons on those last minute changes. This seasons and the previous to an extent have been much stronger and I think the show is finally getting as good and interesting to follow as it was to begin with.
Edit: The current run of episodes, as of today the anniversary, are really awesome. I'm really loving where the series is going right now, and every time that "To be continued..." flashes on screen I want to scream. Their best skill is pissing you off when the show ends because you want more.

- A: No sir, I wouldn't.
- A: I'll go with irony because that was a terrible joke.
- A: I know Dragour, Codex, Caz, and Vivec's Tears all use it, but I've never noticed anyone else.
- A: That already happened years ago. Let's just say I'm the winner.
- A: Scrabble and hula hoop competitions. It's nearly, but not quite, as versatile as using duct tape.
- A: Not at all, it just means you had to do more work than me. I'm lazy so it makes me happy.

- A: Well, my very first forum, except not really. I joined and we were joking around and apparently that simple act made several people quit and I was then accused of hacking someone's email. I don't really get it, and then the forum died soon after. Talk about an ego trip, destroying an entire forum by simply showing up!
Q. Why does Dogmantra have any sort of power? I mean, seriously?
- A: I've asked myself that same question dozens of times, and it all comes down to religion and politics, so I can't tell you without breaking the rules. No.. wait, actually it's because he paid me £500 and agreed to cook my meals for me every day. He's actually been slacking on the meals, and besides his sammiches aren't anywhere as good as a woman's would be, so I'm considering having him removed. Or killed. I'm not sure. Perhaps both.

Q. I hear it's not easy being green, or prickly. Take us through a day
- A: I usually wake up as the sun comes up, whenever that is. I tend to stretch my arms out and photosynthesize as much as I can before noon. Around noon I call forth my regal and royal musical servants to play me a melody of my choosing. I then take dinner which usually consists of about whatever nutrients I've absorbed throughout the evening and morning prior. At about two in the afternoon I like to spend about an hour shining my crown, then another hour making sure it's cocked at just the right angle. I then spend ten minutes explaining to people my avatar doesn't have hair--THAT is my crown. By the time the sun's going down I'm getting tired, but I always manage to get in a bit of growing every day--my annual goal is about an inch or so. Finally it gets late and it's time to sleep, so I nestle into a nice comfy patch of desert sand with my roots.
Aside from that, it can be difficult. I mean, I was mocked quite a bit when I was younger because of my spines and because my rate of growth is so slow and because.. this is a bit embarrassing, because I have a shallow root system..
I did have one good friend, his name was Prickly Pair, so we watched each others' backs. It was good times back in cactus-school, but it could have been better.

Q. What is the name of your most favorite band?
- A: It was CKY for years, but the spot has in recent months been stolen by Rush. They're brilliant. And Canadian.
Q. What is the name of your most favourite album which may or may not be by your fav band..?
- A: Oh.. uh.. I honestly have no idea. I like random songs off lots of albums. I suppose you could say the CKY albums all tie for the top three spot because they're the only albums by any band where I like every single song.
Q. What is the name of your most favorite song?
- A: I don't really have one, but I do have a favourite Rush song, so I'll just go with that. YYZ is awesome!
Q. Do you honestly enjoy frequenting the forums?
- A: Meh, it could be worse, but having to go through every post on every forum every day can get a bit old at times, or when I'm just not in the mood. Or awake. Heh.. seriously though, I do enjoy reading through the posts. I may not always post everywhere, but there are a lot of amusing things that go on in the forums and I get a kick out of it. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't keep coming back, now would I?
Q. Cactus, what happened to your old avatar?
- A: It's strange that you remember it, but yeh um.. it was just supposed to be a "joke" it wasn't around very long. But since you remember it so fondly, here it is for you all to enjoy.

That's me from when I was about 15. Lulz-worthy, I know.

- A: To destroy spammers and trolls for good!!
Q. What is your favourite colour?!
- A: Green, of course!
- A: Green, of course!
Q. What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?!
- A: ~35 km/h, when foraging, though they're capable of speeds of ~65 km/h
Q. What is the capital of Assyria?
- A: Well, since the most basic verb used in conjunction with Assyria is "was" I don't think I can technically answer that. However, it was originally Assur, and in fact Assyria was named for it.
Q. Do you keep a log of how many rules a user has violated?
- A: [removed by an admin]
Q. What does it take to become a moderator/how do you get your own string made (ie. Part Mods)
- A:
- Luck, be obviously helpful, a one-time payment of 5000 USD to each of us, a user name starting with the letter C, and one other quality which can't be named because if we even told you, it'd be instantly nullified. It's so secret, we haven't even come up with it yet. If any of us figured it out, we'd be instantly kicked off the team.
- Boredom on our part, but now that we have Dogmantra the Figgie Puddin' parties never stop, so don't expect a new "team" to show up
any time soonever.
- A:
Q. Why is my name your favorite? And detailed answer, nothing like "because", "i dont know", or "marshmallow"
- A: Because, I don't... marshmallow?
*cough*
So anyway, it's because for one I like the word "bane" and I just think being the bane of all scribs is so utterly ridiculous and over the top that I can't help but love it. It's just awesome that you consider yourself the very ruiner of the cute little scribs' lives.
- A: Because, I don't... marshmallow?

- A: Approximately as much as the the square root of the volume of a small container of fat-free strawberry multiplied by the sum of the total number jokes told and jokes laughed at by middle-aged bartenders, all divided by ten.
Why? Because it is directly and existentially linked with the existence and control of non-rabid buffalo mice.
- A: Approximately as much as the the square root of the volume of a small container of fat-free strawberry multiplied by the sum of the total number jokes told and jokes laughed at by middle-aged bartenders, all divided by ten.
Q. Chuck Norris can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head.
- A: Chuck Norris CANNOT be hit by anyone, nor can he miss when he tries to hit someone. You can see the conundrum, I'm sure; it's basically the perfect example of the "unmovable object meets unstoppable force" idea. Given as Chuck Norris is Divine by nature, I believe in short the answer is "If he wanted to."
Q. Give us a short, real life, anecdote.
- A: One day in New York City,
Sidney Morgenbesser, then Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Columbia UniversityRicky Davis , a Moderator on the UESP forums, put his pipe in his mouth as he was ascending the subway steps. A policeman approached and told him that there was no smoking on the subway.MorgenbesserRicky pointed out that he was leaving the subway, not entering it, and that he had not yet lit up. The cop repeated his injunction.MorgenbesserRicky repeated his observation. After a few such exchanges, the cop saw he was beaten and fell back on the oldest standby of enfeebled authority: "If I let you do it, I'd have to let everyone do it." To this the old philosopher replied, "Who do you think you are—KantCodex?" His last word was misconstrued, and the whole question of the Categorical Imperative had to be hashed out down at the police station.MorgenbesserRicky won the argument.
- A: One day in New York City,
Q. Guess who's back?
- A: Are you the real Slim Shady, or yet another impostor?
Q. What is your favourite ES game/expansion?
- A: Oddly enough those two questions don't mesh well for me. My favourite game has to be Morrowind, partially because Dogmantra would kill me if I said something else and partially because it's true. However, at risk of defenestration at his hands, I htink my favourite expansion is Shivering Isles. Actually, yknow what.. I just changed my mind. I mean, it's technically true but half the things I loved about Shivering Isles I later learned were more or less copied from Morrowind--like the entire look of the world. I'll retract that and go with Bloodmoon because the story was fun and werewolves are awesome.
Q. what comes after 2?
- A: One. Wait..
Q. I am allowed to edit this, right?
- A: Yes!
Q. Why is your name what it is? And not "because I use it everywhere". How did you come up with it in the first place?
- A: Well, I have to admit that "I use it everywhere" is true for me. At first though it was something to be annoying, which is oddly appropriate since I'm pretty annoying. Anyway, it started off as me and my brother using "cactus" to annoy people on Instant messengers--no matter what they said we'd simply reply with "cactus" because it was funny and cactus was just a solid, random word. After that we started using it as an adjective basically meaning "really awesome." Strangely the first use of the word like that I recall was me saying to my brother "It's cactus to say cactus." I still don't quite remember the transition from "That's cactus!" to "I am the Cactus" so I can't help you there, but at some point it became my title. I was Ricky, the Cactus. And.. it stuck.
Q. What are you opinions on the current status of the UESPwiki, and what, if anything, would you do to improve it?
- A: Serious cat is serious.
So, I think the look, style, and general feel of the wiki is dead-on. It's easy to navigate, easy to use, and practically every tiny bit of information you could possibly gleam from the games or construction sets is there if you look hard enough from the schedule of random Oblivion NPCs to incredibly vague Easter eggs from Daggerfall. My only real problem are the server issues, which can't entirely be (easily) helped. As a frequent um.. frequenter, of the forums it's annoying making a post only to hit submit and find the site has gone down and my 300 words are gone.
- A: Serious cat is serious.
Spoiler:
Q. For how long have you slept continously?
- A: I once slept for about 36 hours because of my narcolepsy. That was fun. On the opposite side I recently broke my record of around 32 hours by staying away for more than 48, also because of narcolepsy. Yay for screwing with my life!
- A: Oh god.. spiders. It's sad, depressing, and pathetic. Ask any number of people and you'll learn I scream like a young girl when I see one and run away.
- A: Once, by which I mean multiple times simultaneously. I was hit by a car back in 200x. I was on a bicycle and he hit me head-on going about 60mph. As the car hit me I was torn off the bike and my face went through the windshield and my left arm was broken cleanly at the wrist. The guy slammed on the brakes and I was thrown into the road and my foot struck the pavement completely shattering most of the bones in my foot. So in short..
..yes.

- A: Ha! Well, I dunno when I realised it. I'm not sure I have yet. People comment on my time here and I just look at them like they've gotten something stuck in their teeth. And let's be honest, the sorts of people who don't like people spending so much time online HAVE often got something stuck in their teeth. It's science.
- A: They say syndicates of wizards have led a boycott of Imperial goods in the land of the Altmer. The Altmer have powerful wizards; it could become a dangerous situation.

- A: Heh, funny story. Actually it's not at all. My sister stole my checkbook several years ago, wrote lots of checks with money I didn't have, and I was arrested and forced to pay thousands in fines.
- A: Oh man, I have to show this off. I love it. I used to draw this webcomic I won't link to because that's advertising, but I drew this one comic that had Jesus rocking out throwing up the devil horns to the song "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be" by AC/DC. A while later I was drawing a funeral scene in a Catholic church so I needed a nice stained glass window, so I spent about 6+ hours taking that rocking Jesus and turning it into the most awesome stained glass design I've ever seen. Oh.. that and I made a video game involving terminators, Darth Vader, and Mulder and Scully. True story.

Q. Tell us one of the weirdest/craziest moments of your life
- A: Scroll up and read about my car accident. That was insane. Something I haven't mentioned...
Oh yeh! Several years ago my brother was visiting me for a week, but I had to work. So, he decided to come up to where I worked (Walmart) and hang out while I stocked shelves. So at one point I'm on my fifteen-minute break and we're walking around the store chatting when this guy walks up like we're best friends, stars chatting with us. Now, that in itself isn't so weird, but what was weird is the very first sentence he said to us.. which I sadly can't repeat on the forum.. was asking us if we knew were a strip club was. Apparently we looked the type...
- A: Scroll up and read about my car accident. That was insane. Something I haven't mentioned...
- A: I've told this story 100 times, but one of the happiest memories I have is of Thanksgiving several years ago with my grandparents on my mother's side and my little sister. Instead of having dinner with the family like normal people, my grandparents decided they wanted to go see this piece of property Papa had purchased up in Kentucky. So, we all go and we drag the trip out and get lost about a dozen times. At one point we even ended up going the WRONG WAY around this narrow bend that you see in movies. Yknow, the ones where the road is one-car wide and wrapped around a mountain over a cliff? Yeh. So anyway, we finally find it and it's this gorgeous valley area overlooking this gorgeous old town. We take a bunch of turkey sandwiches, climb this mountain, and sit there eating overlooking the mountains and this lovely town. Best holiday ever.
- A: Bloody hell, woman! What's with you?! Are you TRYING to confuse me.
Oh! I got one! When I finished basic training I had to take a bus home from Fort Benning, Columbus, GA to Statesboro, GA. First of all, it was a crock because if you'll click on this link you'll notice that they're idiots. Second, I had a two-hour stopover in Atlanta. Having just eaten Army food for two months, my first move was to walk four blocks and grab a burger and fries from Burger King. My god.. best food ever. Anyway, I walk back and get stopped about 5 times by people noticing my army-like nature and claiming to be Vetarans and asking for money. I kind of gave them money to shut them up because I was afraid. ANYWAY, I get back and my friend leaves so I'm all alone, and I have no idea how to read the moronic signs they have up. So, I finally get impatient and go and ask a lady and she tells me the bus has already left. What!? Then she looks and notices they haven't pulled away, so I ended up having to run for my life up to this bus that was about to pull off, have them open the storage area up and put my bags in, then walk down an aisle with people staring at the late guy.
- A: Bloody hell, woman! What's with you?! Are you TRYING to confuse me.
- A: Apple-solutely. It's had plenty of "downs" but I generally speaking have a blast doing this.
Banning and warning peoplehelping people with problems, protecting innocents from vile spambots, and kicking out the rare obnoxious and randomly rude person is why I do it.
