wolf, just wanted to let you know I'm not ignoring you. you caught me off guard so I'm still processing everything. you really took the wind out of my sails by taking the time to actually listen and consider my point of view. I honestly didn't see that one coming. I was expecting to get the normal response of the good ol' "can't we all just get along?" banter, or the "nazi" rhetoric of being compared to any numerous forms of bigotry and all sorts of other defensive posturing. what you did was a truly humble and gracious gesture. those are very rare traits and should be appreciated. you're parents should be proud of the way you are. this might not be much consolation for what you're going through, but I hope you can find some comfort. just about everyone experiences some sort of emotional crisis at some point in their lives, so you shouldn't feel like you're alone, but you'll get through it as long as you don't don't give up. I've been a complete basketcase at times, but my personal motto is "never let the [&@%!] win".

I'd also like to thank icyblaze for having the "stones" to open up such a controversial topic for discussion, and the moderators for letting everyone have their say. I wouldn't have expected it would end on a positive note, but this has actually been a very therapeutic discussion. maybe what we need most is more open communication and dialogue where people don't have to be afraid to openly express themselves. just for the record, I'm heterosexual. the "partner" I referred to is my ex-wife. I wasn't trying to mislead with the phrasing, but to illustrate the point that regardless of the fact that I'm not emotionally (romantically) or physically (sexually) attracted to men, a person is still a person, and regardless of what your "orientation" or preference is, a partner is still a partner, so maybe we're not so different after all. I think our society and culture places far too much emphasis on things that don't or shouldn't matter. to try to answer your question ...

If I remember correctly, the chemical Oxytocin is released during and after sex. It is the chemical responsible for bonding with other human beins. Psychologically, through a reward learning-system, it can be argued that sex with a person would make someone want to be around that person more, as being around that person is more likely to provoke those good feelings. I don't know much about intimacy, experience or knowledge, but I do know about bonding through a general study of psychology. I'm making an inference, and I'm wondering if you would disagree and why.
if I'm interpreting this correctly, no, I wouldn't disagree. it sounds like pretty much the same thing, which is why I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. as for the rest, well, I thought there might be more to add to the discussion, but at this point I'll spare the unsolicited profundity.

I was focusing on the "bonding with another human being" bit, not the "yay, I feel good around this person" bit. That's what I'm asking. Is not sex a very good means to get closer to another human-- preferably one that you'd want to get close enough to have sex with.

sure, but so is talking. my point was that sex is not a condition of intimacy or love.

1. This debate is about orientation, NOT sex. It's going too far now. Please keep your focus, people, or this is where it ends.

2. Let's leave off the Nazi comments too, shall we?

Thankyou.

No, sorry mate. This is the thread for (ex-) boy scouts.

:P
Seriously though, we'll let you talk about sexuality, and I personally think it helps some teenagers if people are more open about it. However, we don't want the discussion to move too far into adult content.

I think that there is a problem with over simplifying love and affection. We dont understand what makes us love or what makes us attractive. We can point out certain chemicals that are released and undetectable odors that draw us to each other. But the cause of love still remains a mystery. No one knows why people give their lives for people they love, nor kill for them. No chemical can explain this. The brain in general is a great mystery to us and for all our technology, we still struggle to understand it. What im going for here is that we should take all of this for a grain of salt. Who knows why some people are attracted to the same sex. We can only wonder what causes all this and science alone fails to completely understand this. I like to think that there is some mystery left in the world and i take pride in the fact we cannot yet crack the secrets of our brains. Just remember that nothing is for certain when it comes to feelings and wants.

It's the same with me, but with dogs instead of males. I don't know why I'm attracted to dogs, but I don't really care as I don't see how knowing why I am the way I am will change anything.

Hi guys, glad you could make it. Ground rules: no groping, unless it's me doing the groping, no being more awesome than me and that's it.

(Well, except for the stronger women attraction. It's in flux!)

I hate people that are like "Ewwww, look at the dudes making out". Like, really. No one wants to see you make out with your boyfriend/girlfriend but we still do see it, and we don't complain.

Think it's just natural curiosity, it's nothing we need to know, but something we'd like to know.
Can't really be helped, where would people be without curiosity?

I'm wondering what Wolf means by 'socially' attracted though, you mean you prefer friendship of men?
I'd say I'm only attracted to males sexually, but, with people my own age, socially (As in chatty-like) I seem to get on better with women.
Not completely, most of my old 'best friends' are still guys, but less and less of my newer friends are guys.

I've never seen two gay men make out in public, but I was lucky enough at the tender age of 9 to see two very attractive women make out at a zoo. I kid you not. Thinking about it I realize that it is quite ironic.

I'm right there with you. A quick kiss in public is okay when you're all absorbed in each other's attention
and whatnot, but please keep it to a minimum. I don't care about your orientation, get a room. You'll
scare the small children - or worse, arouse them. We don't need aroused children running about in our
midst. It would get quite flabbergasting, I think.

No, they're talking about sexy homosexual makeouts, which has been grouped with orientation because they're unusual. No thanks!
