But we're still talking about a game here and it's not just Owyn, the Mages Guild shows you no respect as well. Having fun is the most important aspect of a game IMO and if people treat you like crap even though you've saved their lives I'm not having fun.
I see where you are coming from, but there's a big difference between respect and expecting people to worship the ground you walk on. There'll always be SOMEONE who doesn't like you. Especially if you did a lot of bad stuff.

Plus, I could argue that some people also like you TOO MUCH. Why should beggars and paupers like you? So what if you saved their lives? They are lives of poverty, struggles and general misery, and just because you extended them a bit I don't see why they should be grateful at all, since they haven't improved even a little bit. They are still treated by everyone in the world as something to be scraped off the soles of one's boot.

Moreover, why should guards like you even if you saved the world, if you are a Dark Brotherhood murderer, and therefore an outlaw by definition? Or for that matter, the master of the Thieves' Guild? You saved their lives... and at the same time make them utterly miserable with crimes and whatnot. If I was one such guard, I'd probably tell this so-called 'Hero of Cyrodiil' that if not for the heroics, they'd be decorating the countryside with his/her entrails right about now... for being a piece of criminal scum. Just to let him/her know that his/her evil deeds are not forgotten, even if they may have been cast aside.

EDIT: By the way, aren't you also on GameFAQs?
Baron Wulfenbach: DuPree. When I say the words "Alive and unharmed" - do any neurons actually fire in that brain of yours?
Captain DuPree: Um - No Sir!
Baron Wulfenbach: ...I thought not.

No I'm not (active) on GameFAQ's ;).

I think it is clear why guards like you. You closed 62 Oblivion Gates including gates close to cities like Skingrad and Chorrol that were posing a threat. You saved Bruma and closed the Great Gate. You fought alongside Guards in the Imperial City and kicked the Daedra back into their Oblivion Planes.

Sure, you're a Dark Brotherhood Listener and the Gray Fox. But your fame is even higher so they can forgive that "mistake". And my character has done the Knights of the Nine questline and got rid of his infamy. He then went into the Shivering Isles and when he got back no one recognized him as the DB murderer or TG thief anymore.

Let's not assume that everyone has done these. I haven't done the Thieve's Guild or Dark Brotherhood quests. The game automatically gives the same responses. I have also finished the Knights of the Nine Quests but didn't have any infamy to forgive.

Going to the SI should be even worse. Seriously, there should be an enormous disposition hit with becoming Madgod... Daedric lord in a land that considers such practices heresy and all.

There should also be a response for the Prophet when you are Madgod, lol.
