actually there is a open source "undelete" programe i used once that i accidentaly "removed" my firefox profile. can't remember the name, but i have it on my other computer.
as for the saves, if you found them then if they are in the saves folder they should be recognised and work (even if you move them from one computer to the other). if they still don't work i would make a back up of the save file and then try to create a few new ones, to see whewre the game puts them and if everythign behaves normally. because if it doesn't then you might have to reinstall the game. if it does then just put your fiels where the game is putting them and they should be fine.
P.S.
i hope you don't have some sort of virus that corrupted your files.

make sure the filetype is correct, its .ess and .bak so make sure they weren't changed; also, theres a chance you files just might be corrupted, so you might have to start over.

Re: OMG! HELP I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED MY SAVES!!!!!
I somehow deleted both of my most recent saves.
I was excited to find an autosave.bak file, however I am having trouble getting it to work.
I renamed it as .ess but I the game does not see the file, and it is still described as a .bak file.
Part of the problem may be that my computer apparently sees .bak files as AutoCAD files by default.
I think I changed the program association, but I am in over my head.
How do I get the game to read this file?
Oh yea, using vanilla v1.2.0416
Any help is appreciated, as this is a significant setback, although not catastrophic.

"System recovery" Is a default windows program.....SwedishBerzerker wrote:But you don't HAVE to buy them, you can also ask in a computer store. They can often recover lost files, though of course not free of charge.
