The worth (or lack of worth) to having a horse in Oblivion

Post by Paladin_Warrior »

To me there's no value in having a horse in this game. I play it on Xbox 360.

They steer like an ocean-liner, they wander off, you have to dismount to fight, and often the horse gets a few whacks in the process, and then gets [&@%!] off at me for its getting in the way of my claymore! ;-)

In my estimation there would only be worth in having a horse if you could store items in saddle bags. And quite frankly - just why would that have been so difficult for the developers to come up with!? Dah! It seems like a logical thing to allow you to store items in portable/saddle bag storage...

Also, you do not increase in speed, acrobatics, agility, etc. by having your arse on a horse; you only increase those values by running and jumping.

And, it's far easier to run through the country side and forests without having to worry about some damn horse getting attacked by a wolf or bear.

No doubt about it...to me the horses in Oblivion are utterly useless the way they're integrated into the game play.

I don't use the horses either, it is because, like you say,
you have to dismount to fight
think if you could sit on the horse and shoot with the bow, that would be awsome. :D go hunting for deers on the horse

The developers surely found it out themselves. Thats why they made the saddlebag mod.

Which is available only for the PC, I gather? I play on Xbox 360.

I thought it was just me. I like alchemy and foraging for herbs from a horse would be a nuisance.

And as was stated above, athletics and acrobatics don't increase on a horse.

I try to avoid horses like the plague. In one game I was accused of stealing a horse and the only one I ever even used was the free one from Weynon Priory. And that was for fewer than 5 minutes.

Black horses are just as fast, just not as strong and healthy when it comes to fighting.

You can also fortify the speed of your horse to make it even faster.....

If you enchant a horse at a wayshrine they go really fast. Faster than you can ever run. They are useful then. But you can always fast travel. I agree that they were useless.

Horses are just eye-candy. I mean Bethesda made the packrat in Mournhold; it wouldn't have been that hard to incorporate that with the horse.

Yeah, I found that grove with the tougher than average Minotaurs. I didn't know it was part of a quest. I wasn't interested in the unicorn so I left it there.

I use one, but now that I think about it, it is kind of useless...

And you can't even look backwards on it!

You can look backwards... If you press down the scroll wheel, you are able to view your character 360 degrees.

If you could draw your sword and fight, cast spells, and store stuff in the saddlebags, then a horse would be worth the trouble.
