Re: Future RP Ideas
But do you really think a fallout RP by me would be any good? Sneaky deathtraps and sly hints asideA Fallout RP DM'd by Beta? Maybe the universe have mercy on us...
"The earth cracks as an earthquake rocks the very foundations. Scavengers and survivors of the wasteland alike, caught in the collapse and cast underground. The vault dwellers, teetering on collapse. Now vault is cracked, home is lost, lives are lost.
Amongst the rubble. Amongst the collapse. Denizens from above. Dwellers from below. A goal shared between, survival
How long till the air runs thin? How long till starvation leads to panic? The water rises, radiation burns. Everyday we grow sicker.. Everyday we search for day break"
So something like that? Hardcore survival mumbo jumbo? 5min, done. Pat on the back
Not that I'm gonna do it, but hey, it's free game if you have what it takes to make it a reality

Nothing wrong with a quick 20-30 page RP to dip your toe into the deep, deep abyss that is DMing. That's how I got started. Inquisition was terrible!

Re: Future RP Ideas
So people were talking the other day about about me making a S&S sequel and I thought I should comment on it and be up front by saying that's not going to happen. Or at least, I have no plans to make one. There's a lot of reasons for this but basically I think time I could spend making/running it is time which would be better spent running a different cyberpunky RP which would probably be better. Since I ran S&S I've wanted to run a different kind of Cyberpunky RP set a bit further in the future but I never got round to actually doing. It would be an original setting where I do to Eclipse Phase what I did to Shadowrun for S&S, namely liberally borrow while making something of my own. It's a mid-future (as opposed to near or far) that's like the halfway point between cyberpunk and space opera.
Basically it's the 22nd Century and humans have been colonizing the solar system, there's interplanetary travel, large scale automation, all manner of space colonies, digitization of consciousness, alteration of body and mind, augmented reality, virtual reality, A.I, electomangnetic weapons, etc. And various groups and factions spread across the pretty wide solar system. Like what about a colony that all live in virtual reality or a colony made up of copies of the same consciousness? They'd be pretty cool to meet. Then I was thinking of including other elements like having earth be more or less a decimated ruin (because it would make it an interesting place to go to but also it increases the importance of the groups I make up instead of being pretty heavily tied to Earth as it is now which if Earth still existed, it probably would be) or at least super [&@%!] like in Cowboy Bebop and possibly including some weirder things and secrets about the world. I'd need to do a lot of fleshing out for the setting and also name it something, like Argon & Aesteroids.
Honestly the best thing about the setting is because everyone has their consciousness backed up on the reg, with implants in their heads and at specific stations, when you get killed you probably won't stay dead so you won't yell at me for being a killer GM. And TSD won't have to make half a dozen characters due to getting killed. (Although it also means "just killing them" is a far less efficient solution because it's like to just make an enemy who's also going to live indefinitely and not actually solve your problem.)
That Sci-Fi RPG and Delta Green are both things I want to run. Honestly I be happy putting Delta Green on hold and making the Sci-Fi RPG instead because it's something I've wanted to run for like 3 year and it's not like I wouldn't get round to doing Delta Green eventually. So yeah, both are thing I plan to run someday but I genuinely wonder if the Sci-Fi RPG is something people would like to see me do after Fallout.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Cool, I think I will go ahead with that Sci-Fi RPG, put Delta Green on hold. I still have a lot to flesh out setting wise and especially story wise, so I'll probably ask for people's opinions on that stuff further down the line. I'd say to expect it when Fallout's wrapping up which I'm hoping is July but honestly, who knows.
My current idea for the story set-up is you go to accept a job from someone and just before the briefing have your consciousness backed up in case you get killed on the job and they can't recover your greybox (basically an implant which backs up your brain every second.) But then we jump ahead like four-six weeks and you're playing the backup who's been put in a new body (which I could randomize the first body you get put into, I dunno) and are now tasked with tracking down your other selves and the person who hired you. I'm not sure how well I could do it, but I'm planning on having things the other you did be based off your own character (because they are you.) So if your character is a really aggressive jerk, you might meet someone you don't know who the other you was a jerk to and doesn't like you because of it. Or by contrast, if your character is really nice and charming, you could meet someone other you really hit it off with or someone other you is in debt to, etc. I think it would be a fun idea to explore for the main plotline and it's taking advantage of a more unique aspect of the setting.
Also I'm planning on it being super rules light, I'm still going to roll for some stuff but sheets are going to be much more like Yarrow Run than anything I've made. I'm not planning on having CASPIE, skills or classes.

Re: Future RP Ideas
A Madgod's Realm: The Remaddening electric bogaloo 2 the remake of the sequel of the prequel of the placeholder title.
I was reading my very first RP last night and as bad as it was from the DM side, it was fairly decent. Better then i recalled it being and that was me winging it most of the time.
So, I shall reboot/remake/reimagine it once I secure a job and start life.
The premesis would either be travelling adventures in the Shivering Isles where all kinds of madness/death/cakes of dispair occur or Lord Sheogorath is missing and Haskill is trying to maintain madness. There is a massive civil and uncivil war going on and the PCs are the deceased souls of unfortunate adventurers from the third era and were brought back to life to sort out the mess by Haskill. If it's the latter that I go with, death will be a mild inconvience due to the soul forms that the players are in. If it's the former, it may be fairly open world but linear to start with.
No classes. No Caspie. Just a basic character sheet and dice rolls. Probably will be early 2018/mid 2018 that it is up and running but anyone interested in a very mad RP being ran by a very madman?

Been letting this ball roll around for awhile, its actually part of why I came back. After Persona winds down, as I find the two similar and therefore don't want to split a market; I was thinking about starting an RP based in the world of Howl's Moving Castle. It would take me a lot of time, and care, to work with something so precious but I was wondering what you guys think of the idea.

Re: Future RP Ideas
@Hissien: I'm not familiar with Howl's Moving Castle outside the Ghibli film which I understand is very different from the book. But a fantasy RP set in a weirder setting than we typically get does sound interesting.

I thought I'd put this up because I've finished the introduction segment. Although you know, it's still subject to editing, nothing is final until the OP is up, etc. But here's the introduction and history of Greybox, my new Sci-Fi RPG I'm making which is like a spiritual successor to Silicon & Sorcery. For one thing it has the same kinda huge scary encyclopedic OP. I don't expect anyone to read it all in detail, instead it's meant to be something you just sorta skim and then treat as a reference for the world as you need it. Something I'm very much on the fence over is if I want 90% of people to have died or 85%. I'm not sure yet, one would put population in 2127 at around 1.5 Billion, the other would put it at about 2 Billion. I have 1.5 below but I am leaning more toward 2 Billion the more I think about it.
But yeah, thought I'd share some of it with anybody who's interested instead of keeping you all in the dark until I'm done. Thoughts and feedback are very much welcome. Expect the OP to be up sometime in Summer 2017, probably.

Re: Future RP Ideas
It might have been unclear in that part, I get more into the difference between Egos and Shells just after that section. But the Ego (Humans and AGI both have Egos) is your mind, shells are your body. So an "A.I Shell" isn't a thing. Shells can be biological (bioshells) or mechanical (synthshells.) Cloning exists and lots of shells are mass productions, so multiple shells can look the same. But yes, your Ego (mind) is going to be put in a shell (body) that looks different from the one your character was in before they went to meet Constance.
I'm going to want players to tell me what the shell they had before was like but as for your new one it's going be decided by me, probably randomly, get a bunch of different shells and then just randomly assign them. Although I am going to let players PM me before we start if they have preferences or a certain thing would make them uncomfortable, etc. So if you aren't okay with your character's ego being put in a synthshell, shell that's a particular gender, etc you can just let me know and I won't do it.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Do synthshells look the same externally as bioshells? Like in movement, skin, features, etc? Would synthshells have enhanced abilities over bio?
Apologies if I'm jumping the gun. This might be info that you intend to include in the op later, in which case I don't mind waiting if you'd rather that.
I like the idea of you randomly picking the shell for the players. Makes it more surprising and less tailored to our ideals (I.e. more realistic).

Re: Future RP Ideas
It is info I get into later, the differences between the two, so I'm not going to go into a tonne of detail now. But it depends. Synthshell would be any robotic body, be that humanoid, robot dog, battle tank or flying drone. Some synthshells do look externally human and are similar or even better than your average bioshell. But those would be rarer and harder to produce.Aarah wrote:Do synthshells look the same externally as bioshells? Like in movement, skin, features, etc? Neither Bioshells nor Synthshells are inherently better than one another. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages. A synthshell doesn't need to breathe but an organic brain can't hacked. It also gets more complicated when you throw in bioware (biological augmentation) and cyberware (mechanical augmentation) that Bioshells can get as well the biological alteration that goes into the actual production of bioshells. Not all bioshells are created equal, not all synthshells are created equal. Then there's a third kind of shell (really a subset of Bioshell) called 'Borgs' which are basically just bioshells with more cybernetic parts (specifically, robotic brains.)
--
Really the best comparison to think of when it comes to shells is cars, there's a really wide range of capabilities and costs. Lots of people buy second hand cars, sometimes you rent cars, sometimes you get a car from work. you can get a regular model of car and modify it afterwards, you can get cars which are build for a specialized purposes, you can get a really fancy supercar which is way faster than most cars but also more expensive to make. Losing your car would be a bad thing but it is possible to get a new one and people often change out for a new model after a few years, possibly sooner if it gets damaged. Likewise, while most people probably just have one regular enough car, if you're rich you might have a selection of several new Lamborghinis you drive up in the Hollywood hills.
Hmm, I should probably include that comparison in the actual OP.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Disclaimer: This is a proof-of-concept. Everything is subject to change and I'm not planning on launching this for, like, another year or so, but I just wanted to put it out there both to generate interest and also because making RP concepts is tons of fun.
So, without any further ado...
The day is June 9th, 2058, and the sun sets once again on the neighborhood of Ven-Lo. As darkness overtakes the streets, every sensible resident hurriedly barricades their doors in anticipation of the nightly gang prowl. There are no hopes for police intervention, no brave vigilante to watch over them at night; all they can do is clutch their weapons tightly and pray that they will not be singled out on this night.
One hope remains however, a light in the lawlessness and a voice for the voiceless; Freedom Radio, ran by the enigmatic DJ Fade-Out from an unknown location. Every headcomputer in the neighborhood is jacked in to the broadcast, hearing information and instructions that allows the common man to stay one step ahead of the marauding gangs that prowl the streets.
Many residents grow tired of running over the long years, however, and wish to take back the neighborhood. They hold out hope for DJ Fade-Out to announce a revolution of the common man, but their pleas remain unanswered... until tonight.
______
A new roleplay revisiting the popular Silicon & Sorcery (created by our beloved forum gremlin, Kerr), S&S: Freedom Radio takes place five years to the day after the beginning of the original S&S. After the fateful events in Rockpine, the Red Dragon Rahu staged a war against the Mediterranean Atlantic Alliance. Though a true land invasion never occurred, both sides conducted regular bombings that claimed thousands of civilian lives.
Among the most harmed locations in these bombings was the neighborhood of Ven-Lo in the Northeast corner of the North American continent, a neighborhood analogous to the real world Harlem, New York. Ven-Lo was targeted in concentrated strikes, demolishing buildings and homes until the neighborhood was little better than a slag-heap of a slum. The local residents banded together to form a neighborhood watch while the MegaCorp security forces focused on the richer parts of the surrounding city, and successfully defended themselves against further strikes.
When the Black Sun moved to establish order in Ven-Lo near the end of the Red Dragon War, they were shocked to find a fully militarized civilian militia that was easily able to push out the unwanted MegaCorp presence. This attempt to establish control over the unruly neighborhood was replicated twice more, only to fail repeatedly. They elected to seal off the neighborhood by the order of the city government, establishing walls and checkpoints that forbade entry and exit from Ven-Lo.
Within the barricade, Ven-Lo prospered... for a time. The citizen militia was brought together to stop terrorist attacks, not to govern a large neighborhood. Within the year the watch fractured into four different gangs, each claiming different territories of Ven-Lo as their own, and their subsequent feuds with one another harmed the local populace far more than they harmed each other.
DJ Fade-Out was an urban legend originally spread by the beleaguered, un-affiliated residents of the neighborhood, and when he revealed himself and his musical vehicle, Freedom Radio, seven months ago he was hailed as a modern messiah to save the people of Ven-Lo from themselves. He began to broadcast the movements of each of the four Ven-Lo gangs in startlingly accurate detail, allowing local citizens to avoid the gang activities during their peak hours in the nights. In the off-time, the station plays music befitting the cultural heritage of Ven-Lo; hip-hop, both retro and futuristic in style.
You are a resident of Ven-Lo, long oppressed under the gangs claiming dominion of what was once a comfortable place to live. One day you tune in to Freedom Radio to receive your daily updates from DJ Fade-Out, only to be greeted by deafening static. As you hear the screams of the victims of gang violence outside, you receive a personal call from a voice you recognize as the mysterious DJ Fade-Out himself, directing you to travel to the nearby Apollo Theater on 125th street and to wait at the abandoned theater for further instructions.
Life in Ven-Lo is about to change.

Re: Future RP Ideas
Jet Set Radio is not the direction I thought you would take things in but it's a really interesting one.
Will say though, you had the perfect opportunity for a Rage Against The Machine referencing title and you squandered it.
