I totally agree that elves have an advantage over humans when it comes to showing vampirism, given their naturally ethereal qualities. It's supposed to be a curse, right? But not for elves. Just goes to show they are superior to humans. Yep, I said it. :D

It's possible that Felina was infected in Mara's Eye Pond, which was the last vampire den she visited. The thing is that I don't recall her being infected--or the screen even saying that. Weeks later, she's now dead on the outside as well as the inside. She makes Onmund lay down before she feeds on him...hasn't done it yet when he's been awake. He probably would resist her if he knew the truth, given that he's also a goody-goody.

And nice fade to Serana there with Mari. The thought of Harkon doing anything with anyone is disgusting in and of itself. ;)

Sounds a lot like the Breton I mentioned above (who btw goes by the name of Ylbert Hawcroft), except Ylbert uses a mace & shield instead of two-handed weapons and is averse to all magic except for restoration, so no enchanting for him.

I used and enjoyed both for a while, but ditched them in the end and have been happily pretending ever since. My characters have different apparel for different climates and drink a frost resist potion before swimming in cold water. As for RN&D, from what I see on YouTube most people who use needs mods end up gobbling random foodstuff at the most inappropriate moments (mostly while running around) because the mod tells them they're hungry. That's unimmersive as hell for me. My characters eat 2-3 meals a day, preferably at an inn or camp, and maybe some extra after an exhausting fight. More realistic IMO.
The enchanting is for money really, not so much for actual enchantments... It is actually his highest skill, which is mildly interesting.

Well, I sort of need the routine or else I forget sometimes... I do it that way though, it is a little wrong to just eat a meal while fighting like that.

That sounds like a really strange issue Dohva...

@Finn, those hunger mods do disrupt immersion for me. Felina et al eat their meals like your characters do: sitting down somewhere or a snack on the road. Sylmirie eats the less though since she tries to "watch her weight". :)

@CBR keep us posted on your character's progress. It's nice to see this thread get some discussion again. Btw, regarding his enchanting skill to make money, maybe it's one of those things like irl where sometimes people get stuck at a job they don't like because it makes good bucks. :P

That's just wonderful! The high & mighty Altmer mage keeping a nervous eye on her pounds - such little things go such a long way towards making a well-rounded character (no pun intended*), don't they? I imagine she might get veeery touchy if anybody so much as notices her efforts, right?

*well yes, who am I kidding? :P Anyway, this reminded me that there's a funny little mod by Gopher called Pumping Iron (too lazy to link, just search the Nexus) which lets your character start as a skinny whimp and gain muscle mass over time depending on stuff you do, and made me dream of a mod that makes you get fatter depending on how much you eat (and what: no more sweet rolls, taffies and boiled cream treats! ), with penalties to stamina but bonuses to frost resistance (better isolation!). Impossible, of course, because for it to work Skyrim would need a body fat slider and a lot more variance in character models, but for a moment I had a vision of a plump but bright little mage character, all brains and lard, struggling to keep up with their seven-foot-tall Nord follower... . Not sure it would be such a good idea in the end though - there's enough anorexia due to silly body ideals IRL without importing weight problems to Skyrim. Better keep the fat in our heads, where everything is better anyway.

People have made fat mods before... Problem is the way Skyrim's weight slider works. You're either thin or muscular. I think people put the fat body as the high weight before, but I can't quite remember. Or maybe they created custom fat races that used their own body meshes with unique sliders. It's a shame that Bethesda didn't add the option to make your character fat, since it would have added way more diversity (especially with NPCs. Fat nobles, as an example) instead of everybody having the exact same body. Would've added more opportunity for roleplay, too. Then you could see your character as a tub o' lard, instead of imagining them as one.

Anyway, Finn, your fat body idea made me realize that one reason why I love ESO is because of the amount of options you have when creating your character... One of which is the ability to make them fat. Fat, thin, muscular, or some combination of those. They use a triangular slider to make the body shape, and then you can customize it further with options to change arm size, chest size (breast size for women), and even... The "posterior dimensions" slider. The next ES game needs to have the options that ESO has... More work, but more diversity. Still, ESO doesn't make your character's body change over time. Which is fine because we go through a ton of food and drinks (the bonuses are important in combat. Really important). A lot of people would have fat characters if that were the case.

Two examples: my Sharzee'Rai is a thin-but-muscular Argonian Templar warrior. The only other character I have, Rashira'Zra (I just created her a day or two ago), is a rather fluffy-but-muscular Khajiit Dragonknight.

Um...it's really impossible for me to picture a Dragonborn with extra weight when he or she is:

-trekking across the wilderness which is an intense workout due to the terrain
-horseback riding
-using weapons that keep you fit and muscular like bows and swords
-eating lightly because you might go a day or more without food sometimes
-exploring dungeons with draugr and vampires that might make you sick to your stomach
-idk fighting dragons!

Fat mods seem so unrealistic in that game, which is why the sliders don't allow for larger characters.

Yes, but who says every character has to be a Dragonborn hero busy saving the world 24/7? They could be a merchant trading between cities, or a Dwemer archeologist or some other kind of bookish guy, and mostly travel by carriage. Basically you're right, though, which is why I picked a mage as my example above - they're about the only one of the three archetypes who would get away with being fat and be likely to stay that way. They'd have to excel at mage armour and ward spells to survive a fight, because they'd be a lame duck and stand no chance at playing a mobile glass cannon. Warriors would of course be well-muscled (especially if they wear heavy armour - imagine lugging all that ironware around!), rogue types preferably lithe, lissom and light-footed. Marilyn, I guess, keeps her skinny figure by running around a lot of necessity because she wears only light armour or plain clothes and most enemies could oneshot her, so she has to avoid getting hit. On the other hand she eats a lot too, especially after fights (as is to be expected from a Bosmer), but IIRC an exclusive carnivore needs to eat a lot of meat to avoid malnutrition.

Nice to see you popping in again, Mauin! Any backstory yet for Sharzee'Rai and Rashira'Zra?

You're right, Finn. A mage is the only type of character I can see being overweight in a place like Skyrim, where folks are starving more than half the time due to the harsh conditions and way of life. Not too many people had the luxury of nutritious food in the middle ages. And I always though Marilyn stayed skinny because she's a Bosmer, who are scrawny basically because they only eat meat. One thing about the food mod I had was that Lieth was constantly starving because all she ate was meat, and the mod kept prompting for her to fill up on something other than that. So it had to go.

I was going to make the same point. Basically, what I was going to say is that people don't always play the hero in games. I've done merchant characters before. They're type of wealthy folk who can afford to pay people to do the work for them. Even politicians; they've got the cash, and they probably have servants. And access to large amounts of food. If you're playing one of those sorts of characters, why shouldn't they be fat? Why shouldn't NPCs in the same roles (or rolls) be fat? It's equally unrealistic to expect every NPC or character archetype to be all fit and healthy.
Again, that's why I like ESO's option to make your character fat. Although it is weird seeing a bunch of fat characters sprinting here and there.

Eh. I'll be honest, Finn. I don't have backgrounds for either of them. Sharzee'Rai in particular won't have one, as she's my "learn the game and [&@%!] around" character. I still haven't finished her, despite the fact I've been playing daily since June 16th or so. I've barely entered the second zone for EP Cadwell's Gold (the Aldmeri Dominion zones). And then after that I might have to look into finding a group for Craglorn stuff. And then maybe pvp, if I feel like getting my ass kicked over and over again.

And Rashira'Zra... Yeah, I really don't have a background for her, either. I'm open to suggestions there if you're familiar with the time period. All I can really say is that she's a warrior: a master in the ways of medium armor and two handed weapons, and she's (going to be) very skilled in using the powers of the Dragonknights to grant herself protection and healing in combat. Basically a Dragonknight stamina DPS build with magicka for support.

I still use the immersion mods, because I'll forget if I don't; I'll sometimes go so long between games that I won't remember when I last ate or drank or slept. Still, just because it says I'm hungry, thirsty, or tired doesn't mean I immediately attend to it. I try to make it at camps or in an inn, or if I am in a dungeon, then something like a hunk of bread and cheese and meat. Y'know, rations. Same with sleeping. I'll be in areas where I could pitch her bedroll out and let her sleep, but it wouldn't be right - either a creepy tomb or too many threats that could be around. Even if she's crawling her way around exhausted, starving, and dehydrated, I keep Lygia's choices in character. Even her choice of cloak against the cold Skyrim reflects her character (an ornate white bearskin).

I wouldn't mind having a reasonable fat mod. I agree that a warrior hero would be muscular, and a thief hero would be lean, but a mage might pack on some pounds, especially if they more use followers to do their fighting, and carts to get around, and stop for a rest more often. It might also be interesting to see a warrior hero that decides to take a break from the fighting to raise their family and do minor things, and packs on some pounds. Then has to go be a fighter again or something, and struggles... who knows. Or maybe I'm just a little influenced from Caramon from Dragonlance Legends, lol.

Well, that raises the question of how medieval the world of Tamriel really is. It certainly looks the part, Skyrim much more than Cyrodiil or Morrowind, and they use medieval weapons, but on the other hand the inns and merchants sell bottled drinks (so glass has to be a cheap commodity, which I don't think it was in the MA) and other anachronistic stuff. Cyrodiil and Morrowind have bookshops selling books at prices most people can afford (so they must have had their own Gutenberg at some point). All this points more to a Renaissance or early modern society than a medieval one, and the Dwemer were even more advanced with steampower and electricity.

Good point. Forgoing carbohydrates makes it a lot more difficult to put on extra weight.

Sorry, my knowledge of the 2nd Era is hazy at best, let alone the stuff ESO added or retconned. :(
SM-Dreamer wrote:Same with sleeping. I'll be in areas where I could pitch her bedroll out and let her sleep, but it wouldn't be right - either a creepy tomb or too many threats that could be around.
Of course. My people only sleep in dungeons after they're cleared - in Marilyn's case, preferably after having the inhabitants for dinner, if edible, and drinking any booze they left behind. But some places are too creepy even for that.
SM-Dreamer wrote:Even if she's crawling her way around exhausted, starving, and dehydrated, I keep Lygia's choices in character. Even her choice of cloak against the cold Skyrim reflects her character (an ornate white bearskin).
She's a Stormcloak, I guess? So bearskin is de rigueur. White for purity, I suspect, and ornate, well, a somewhat exuberant character? Or to reflect her status as Dragonborn?
Marilyn's fur cloak of choice is black wolf with white trim - it looks cool and a little posh, but it never occurred to me that it might reflect her character until I made that black-and-white avatar for her (see signature) and thought about her light and dark sides. Bearskin is nice too, but I can't help feeling that those claws look a little groping on women... :P
Which brings us to the subject of clothes in general. Roleplaying characters are the ultimate dress-up dolls, aren't they? Marilyn's saddle-bags usually contain up to three different sets of armour, a set of Redguard clothes (red and black like Nazir's), her Listener's Robes and a handful of dresses (not counting trophies she doesn't wear). Do you do that too, and how do your characters' clothes reflect their personality?

Yeah, she's a Stormcloak. A true Daughter of Skyrim :P So definitely the bear. White because, yes, purity, but also because of snow and frost and ice. As for it being ornate, well, it fits her status in the war and as a hero.

As for clothing, she's quite comfortable in her armor, but when she's smithing, she wears the appropriate outfit. She prefers to wear her armor even in court, not because she fears attack, but because she wants to remind all that see her who and what she is - the Dragonborn, wearing dragonscale armor. Only at home does she relax enough to take off her armor and wear fine clothes. Well, that and when she sleeps for the night, but that's just in her smithing clothes (since that's leggings and a tunic). I like to think of her choices as mostly practical.

Finn Wolfshorn wrote: how do your characters' clothes reflect their personality?
Well, if you'll allow me to indulge for a moment...(Tolfdir, anyone? :P ) All of my characters wear regular clothing while in town or at home. On occasion, if they're handling business, they might wear a suit or something fancy, but that depends on the mission and other factors.

While adventuring, Sylmirie wears her master mage robes with enchanted elven boots (she has a few pairs of these which she rotates according to quests). She likes to look her best at all times, with neatly braided hair, purple eyeshadow, a light blush, and dark red lipstick that may not look so great on her yellow skin tone but she pulls it off anyway. Sylmirie dresses to impress and she always likes to smell good (which is why she keeps lavender flowers in her satchel, they serve as a sort of perfume if you will).

Lieth is my wild child. On her adventures across Skyrim or Solstheim, she wears Dragonscale armor. If she's just out hunting, then she'll wear the Thieve's Guild leather armor. Her hair may or may not be braided and I imagine it tousled all the time. She does, however, always keep fresh war paint on her which she applies daily in different colors. She probably smells like hide and has that tomboyish vibe to her.

Felina is the chameleon. In the wilderness, she wears her fur armor (the only type she wears) because she gets cold easily, even though she grew up in Bruma. At home, she wears revealing dresses for Onmund and walks around barefoot. Before she had children, she would drink some skooma and wander around Riften without shoes and in a simple dress, but now that she's a mother and a businesswoman, she dresses a bit more maturely. The wonderful thing about her though is that when she's doing assassinations, she likes to blend in. Different outfits for different occasions. So she has pretty much all of the outfits you can find in the game and she rotates them depending on who her target is. Jester tunic, maybe a chef's hat, even soldier's wear...she has them all. I always envision Felina as this dark skinned, curvy and petite lady that smells like sweetrolls and has a bulging chest that she likes to reveal as a distraction. :Twisted Evil:

Marilyn does that too; she prefers to Paint It Black (with charcoal and fat), but has been known to use other stuff, like blood or snowberry juice. I recently 'discovered' (by writing) that this is a daily ritual with her, and the paint is like a protective mask to her, making her feel defiant and confident.

That's great! I've only done that twice - after Marilyn murdered Vittoria Vici she got away scot-free because she was wearing a Solitude guard's armour, and when she entered the Katariah she was disguised as a member of the Penitus Oculatus (but before she confronted the Emperor she changed into black robes and Shrouded Hood, in imitation of Alisanne Dupré, so he'd know who he was dealing with). Other than that, she wears her hide-style Full Leather armour when she wants to blend in, it's unconspicuous enough (and provides some distraction as well, although I'm afraid she can't rival Felina in that department  .)

Speaking of which:

It always irks me to see such a hard and square word used for something so deliciously soft and round. :P

Not creepy. Agree with you, that word does not adequately describe. Perhaps 'breast' or 'bosom' are better synonyms?

For real? Huh.
Takes all sorts to make a world, so they say.
*shrugs* Okay. As you were.

I said chest because this is, after all, a PG 13 forum and chest is more...idk...appropriate for the maturity level? Lord Timster just proved my point. ;) :P

There's a lot of things I'd have a mind to say about this PG thing in general and concerning this thread in particular, but I defer to the moddess. *bows* :)

Surely we can find other stuff to talk about. For example, Marilyn just acquired a private assassination target. She, Serana and Styr the Hunter (a modded Dark Brotherhood follower) were staying at the Moorside in Morthal, a favourite inn of theirs as Serana became best buddies with Jonna and her tavern wench in the aftermath of her cure from vampirism (see story somewhere upthread). The two women were just about ready to go to bed after dinner and a bottle of Surilie Bros when they found Benor (the local would-be guardsman) sitting on the chair in their room with his tankard and stolidly refusing to budge. Mari being Mari, she considered for a moment to order Styr to beat the daylights out of Benor, but being reluctant to cause a hullaballoo under Jonna's roof she contented herself with pushing Benor to get him to move (=unarmed block bash, incurring a bounty for assault). After a look at her equipment and heavily armed Styr (I suppose), Benor made way but threatened to kill her if she ever hurt him again. What sauciness in the face of Movarth's Bane from a man who cowered in fear with the rest of Morthal's anti-vampire flash mob while she saved the town from the vampire menace! He has to die.

Problem is he spends most of the day hanging 'round in highly visible positions and the evening at the inn. Now Marilyn, Styr and Serana together are quite capable of eliminating the Morthal guard force, but Mari has become quite attached to this town herself and would like to be able to return here without paying 30 000,- bounty. Also getting innocent bystanders killed is bad for business - who knows, they might become future clients? If only there were a way to get at the guy with nobody looking... Wait a moment, there is. *heads back to Skyrim*

Finn, so what did you come up with to eliminate her new target?

Well, it's trickier than I expected. I tried sniping at him when he goes to the burned house to ponder the sad fate of Hroggar's family (and how he failed to help Mari avenge them, the coward!), even from as far away as the graveyard - no luck. Then I thought of sniping from the balcony behind the Thaumaturgist's Hut, where the house largely shields you from the main street, but I hadn't reckoned with a lone guard out on the pier beyond Falion's house.

The problem is, Benor is pretty tough and wears heavy armour. He won't die from a single arrow, even if poisoned, and as soon as he sees me the hunt is on. I could, of course, make him a follower and take him to some dark and dangerous place, but that would be daft - I mean, imagine:
M "Get out of my bedroom before I tell my buddy here to make minced meat of you!" *punch*
B "Ouch! I'll let it slip this time, but hurt me again and I'll kill you!"
M "By the way, I could use your help on a dangerous quest in the wilderness where I may or may not backstab you."
B "Yeah, sure. Let's go!"
Nobody's that gullible. No, I think what I'll do is wait till he goes to bed in the Guardhouse and stab or poison him in his sleep. Should be a walk in the park for the woman who killed Gaius Maro surrounded by sleeping Solitude guards.

ETA: Mission accomplished. He's dead. :Twisted Evil: I'd post a documentary photo but alas!, he clipped through his bed. There's this, however, made at the inn while we waited for him to retire:

You know what, I think there's a little ministory from Serana's POV buried here.

Heh. Nice work there. :) All sneaky type. Killing the town's entire guard population is more my style though. *wink*
