Altmer
Almost 50% of my active characters are Altmer. Never really bothered with them in Oblivion (where Dunmer were my favorite to play as) but in Skyrim they have definitely won me over. I find their race and culture interesting + the extra 50 points to magicka certainly doesn't hurt.

Re: Favorite race to play as?
It's my tradition to always create my first character in each game as a Dunmer. Subsequent characters are usually Bretons or locals to the province. Lately I've been trying to branch out and try the other races, though.

I always play a khajiit. I'm a human every day of my life, they're boring, so past khajiit I'd play an argonian, orc, altmer, bosmer, then humans, in order of most to least likely.
Re: Favorite race to play as?
I like playing as the elves. Altmer for mages, Bosmer for assassin/thiefs, Orcs for warriors, and Dunmer for my sneaky illusionist.
However, I am currently playing a Breton witchhunter; Bound Bow too OP!

That's funny. I gravitate towards playing human characters because I still haven't figured them out yet.urthdigger wrote:I always play a khajiit. Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

I like playing as all races except the beast races (Khajiit and Argonians). No offense to the fans of those races, but I cannot get into the animal-like races myself.

I've tried a few, but my favorite is Imperial. Then again, I "roleplay" as myself and I have strong Italian roots.

Nord most definitely. I just find it easier to make attractive Nords during character creation compared to any other race.

Breton. I find them to be the best looking human characters as well as having one of the most useful passives. My first character was a Breton spell-sword. My most played character is a Breton named Fred.

Orcs! The meaner the better. The boost to smithing is great, the racial power is amazing and they look menacing as hell.
In Oblivion, Dunmer was my favorite.

Redguard is the master race.

I have really taken a liking to Altmer since I made two Altmer characters, but I still have a soft spot for Bretons and Bosmer (though I do admit, sentimental value plays a big role for me. Back when I first played Morrowind on the Xbox my first char was a Bosmer, so I am a little prejudiced)

Re: Favorite race to play as?
Forever I always used to play as Nords, being their home province and I like the race, but I more and more have started using Redguards as my go to human race. And Dark Elves are always an option.
Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

Re: Favorite race to play as?
Khajiit, hands down(my there sure are a lot of us, how odd
). But anyway, my first character in these games is always a Khajiit. Can't really say why, I guess I just like their culture and attitude toward life. Plus I really love being a super sneaky thief in these games, so that probably has a lot to do with it. Oh and I like the nighteye ability as well(though it was way more useful in Oblivion) it's just a really cool ability. My second character after the Khajiit is always a Bosmer. I like the whole woodsy/naturalistic elves thing and the meat only diet and ritualistic cannibalism is quite an interesting touch. And the wild hunt... just too damn awesome!
Re: Favorite race to play as?
I'm new to Skyrim I got it at Christmas, never played an Elder Scrolls game before but for some reason upon starting I was drawn to play as an Imperial. I recently restarted after getting to grips with it all and re made my female Imperial exactly the same even though I considered a Dark Elf too but I just love my original gal.
I notice Imperials and Orcs don't seem as popular though.

Haha, yeah most people get attached to the first race they play asStelpots wrote:..I just love my original gal.
There's a fair amount of people who play Imperials. Very few Orc fans though, not sure why. I fell in love with the Orcs in Skyrim. They're like green Klingons. Lol, I dig itStelpots wrote:I notice Imperials and Orcs don't seem as popular though.

Bosmer, Breton and Khajiit.
Re: Favorite race to play as?
Thanks for the Oblivion suggestion, I might just do that. Yes she is really quite amazing but I guess everyone thinks that about their characters lol.Rajhma wrote:Haha, yeah most people get attached to the first race they play asStelpots wrote:..I just love my original gal. After you're done with Skyrim definitely check out Oblivion. It's set in Cyrodiil, home of the Imperials.

Ahh ok. Well I guess Orcs aren't as aesthetically pleasing as some but yes they are like Klingons now I think about it. I might play as an Orc one day.

I tend to play humans in general (no particular preference), making exception for Dunmer because of my Morrowind nostalgia.

Re: Favorite race to play as?
Breton. Mostly for the magic resistance and other excellent characteristics: Their skill bonuses, special power, and starting spell are as good as any and better than most. There are also role-play reasons why I chose for my main character to be a Breton, but that's beyond the scope of this thread.
I haven't played most of the races, only Breton, Bosmer, and Redguard so far. I pretty much have to force myself to play as anything other than Breton, though, as I they suit my preferred playstyle so well.

Re: Favorite race to play as?
I don't care for orcs myself because Orcish culture doesn't appeal to me. I've played and roleplayed as one before, and I enjoyed it, but it's definitely not my favorite.
Bretons are just so versatile. Excellent healers and necromancers, as they're well reputed as. Superb witchhunter due to magical capability and magic resistance. They make decent stealth users, and even their lore states Breton agents have turned the tides of war. Nightblade, thief, assassin, it's all plausible.
That's not to say other races can't learn the same trades. They can, and I often do, simply because characters should be fleshed out. RPing as a stereotype is boring. I also love their culture. Breton striving for fame and riches across their land? Several smaller kingdom factions warring? They're so interesting, and I find only the Dunmer to have better lore.

Well, in Skyrim, particularly, Redguards are rather versatile. In fact, they are so versatile, that it's hard to choose a class for them other than some super hybrid.

Re: Favorite race to play as?
I can understand that. Their culture is definitely a stark contrast to our own. What I like about the Orcs is that they are a loyal, honorable, no nonsense type of folk. They are also impressively strong(mentally I mean) despite the absurd amount of crap they've received. They seem to be the only race that comes even close to a lawful good alignment. I respect them. Well, as much as one can respect a fictional raceTroy242621 wrote:I don't care for orcs myself because Orcish culture doesn't appeal to me...
