It's this site where you donate money to fund a project. Except there have been so many times where it just completely backfires and the product either comes out greatly cut down, or not at all. I'm not the only person who feels that Kickstarter is too risky, as reports have come out that money donated to game Kickstarter projects is vastly down. Now, I like a good number of Kickstarted games, FTL: Faster Than Light, Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, and Broken Age, but I feel that it seems like it's a coin flip sometimes.

Speaking of coins...
BetaB17 wrote:So no potato salad kickstarters AKB?

No joke, but kickstarter had its value.. the problem being that it could be abused. You had to be wise, and even then there were risks. Strictly speaking it held its worth with committed communittes and less so to broad groups.. I mean if an artist and his fanbase are at good terms and trust then great but I hold speculation to those who wish to prey on quick cash or severily underestimate the skill needed to meet thier promises<_< in short I love and hate it
I didn't donate to that one, although I do approve of what he did with the money for the most part. I don't think anyone else would have been as pleasant about it as that guy was.

I'm gonna jump in and say something entirely random here, but I thought this was cool:

"Once upon a time, Zhuang Zhou dreamed he was a butterfly, a butterfly flitting about happily enjoying himself. He did not know that he was Zhou. Suddenly he awoke, and was palpably Zhou. He did not know whether he was Zhou, who had dreamed of being a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming that he was Zhou. Now, there must be a difference between Zhou and the butterfly."

I absolutely need to read more on the Warring States Period, because it's so freaking interesting. Random tidbits like that just make me want to study what exactly was going on more and more. Never even played Dynasty Warriors.

Hope Jeremy Soule's Kickstarted symphony gets moving. He ended up deciding to make it a lot longer than originally planned, and is getting some Old Norse written into it and stuff. At least he's posting updates now; sounds like he's actually actively working on it.

On another topic, has anyone played any of these games? What do you most recommend from them? I get to pick 3 for free with the purchase of my graphics card. https://www.amd4u.com/radeonrewards/

Kickstarter is an inherent risk due to it's nature. You should invest with the mindset that the money is gone, and might not see fruition.

I have backed several projects:

Nekro
War For The Overworld
Wasteland 2
Project: Eternity
Torment: Tides of Numenera
Mighty No 9
Hyper Light Drifter
Grim Dawn
Etc

And thankfully, most of these are on track. And even big games like Wasteland 2, and Broken Age, and FTL have seen big success! Which is the biggest plus to KS projects. You can get games that have lost favor with the market, and wouldn't normally see anymore.

The biggest negatives are burnout, and flops.

You should only ever do it if you wanna take a risk, and won't miss the money. It's like stocks with games to a degree.

Jeremy Soule should be able to deliver, with all he's been given. Although that does highlight another Kickstarter issue, stretching your original goals due to overfunding. Jeremy Soule was 1,212% funded, so he needed something to do with all that extra money for this project, and it just slows everything down.

I still think Saints Row IV is the best choice from me. I have mixed feelings about all of the other options.

That's the one I meant, and that entire series is quite popular. You should give it a try, so you can be invited into the cool Dynasty Warriors club and laugh at me for not being able to get in.

Once I play it and finish it, I'll want to play and finish the first three and any that came out after the forth one. I'll get around to it sooner or later. ;)

Personally, I'd pick up the Tomb Raider reboot, Sleeping Dogs, and Alan Wake.

Tomb Raider was surprisingly good, in my opinion. One of my gripes, however, was that the voice acting, particularly Lara's, was a little off. The enemy A.I. is as dumb as a sack of hammers and the mutliplayer sucks. Other than that, it's a very solid game.

Sleeping Dogs is, without a doubt, one of the best open world games I've ever played. The combat is fluid, bloody, and entertaining. The plot is a little cliched, yet still acceptable, and the protagonist is well realized and fleshed out. Definitely worth the attention.

Alan Wake is... a bit of a mixed bag. To get one thing straight, Alan Wake is more of a thriller than a horror game. The plot is well paced and very interesting, however, the combat, while sometimes intense, isn't very good. If you can overlook that however, Alan Wake has a creepy and memorable setting, a decent soundtrack, a great plot, and good characters.

I didn't even know he was doing that. His stuff is brilliant, from the Elder Scrolls to stuff like Warcraft.

As for the games, Tomb Raider, Aliens Isolation, and Sleeping Dogs. My two cents.
