Characters spanning multiple games

Post by DarkEastwood »

What are your thoughts on having a PC that is in multiple games? In my opinion, it's difficult to justify lore-wise since you go from a huge hero to a prisoner. However, I'm sure many of you have thought of creative ways to roleplay it out. I'm currently planning a character that plays through the MQ in each Elder Scrolls (main series) game, but am having some justifying making some transitions.

What ever happened to the Empress? Maybe the hero got a little frisky with her and Uriel clapped his old friend in irons until the last day of his (Uriel's) life.

As to the 200-year gap between Oblivion and Skyrim, there's always that offer to become one of Earil's exhibits in the Shivering Isles.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

It is relatively simple to find a character who could live as long as to be around for the events from ESO to Skyrim, and much easier for Arena to Skyrim.

The issue is the story doesn't make sense if you have 1 character to do the lot.

Yeah, but you'd have to be a pointy-eared magic nerd in order to live that long without outside help, which is rather limiting in character selection

I said relatively simple, not lots of choice. :)

Nothing but a bit of overzealous bio engineering. reverse engineering the Altmer dna and replicating it's longevity to all other races. :p

Tamriel has magic right? Any mage could increase their lifespan enough to survive 200 years. I mean, I still choose a mer anyway, I have a dunmer that's been in each game since Morrowind, he even made a brief appearance in Daggerfall(By brief, I mean that arrow came out of nowhere!)

Alright so I've put some thought toward my character, and wanted to know if there were any flaws or anything in his whole story arc.
Hidden:
So in Arena, my Dunmer is a Lawful Good spellsword and does the main quest normally, and finishes as a hero.

In Daggerfall, he is still maintaining his hero status, but Clavicus Vile will appear to him in an attempt to meddle with him (I know you need to summon him, but I'm just going to pretend he just appears to me for the sake of the roleplay). Player declines, finishes MQ (sided with Underking), Daggerfall is done.

The Legion is mad after the fact that I didn't give them the Totem to restore their power. Although they were angry with me, they still respected me for my efforts in Arena and discharge me back home to Morrowind. Complete Main Quest and does some Legion quests in order to regain lost reputation with them. But on the way I contract vampirism, and out of fear of his current state, he prays to Clavicus Vile. Clavicus Vile tells him of an artifact that can make him look normal and have the Legion respect him again. Character proceeds to attain Masque of Clavicus Vile, and slowly progresses toward a more Chaotic Good type character.

Fast forward some, and Clavicus reclaims his Masque as he is on his way to the Imperial City to make amends with the Emperor after his good deeds in Morrowind. He very soon gets detected as a vampire, and thrown into the Imperial prison before even reaching the Emperor. After his escape, he hears of the Oblivion gates open, and Clavicus appears to him and demands that he stop Dagon from entering "his" world. The main character feeds regularly to keep appearance under control. Proceed to do some of main quest, until the allying of Bruma section, where Clavicus calls him to his altar and asks him to complete his quest to get the Masque back. Queue returning to full vampire mode, and finishing of main quest.

Main guy tries retiring after saving the world a few times, but Clavicus takes his Masque back once more when he sees that his servant refuses to perform anymore heroic deeds for him. Main guy proceeds to flee to seclusion in a cave for 200 years, until he learns of the White Gold Concordat where he is wary that in addition to Legion looking for him, there are Thalmor roaming about that would see him as a scourge on the elven race. So he attempts to flee to Skyrim, where he gets caught crossing the border and you know the rest. During the dragon crisis, he serves Clavicus once more and completes the main quest.
I'm sure there are a lot of problems with this, so please point them out since I want to try to make this relatively seamless.

I've created a "family line" so far, the Julalla line for a Breton, but I've never had the same character make an appearance throughout multiple games. Unless of course you count meeting my Oblivion Character as Sheogorath while playing Skyrim. Some game series work well with the "one character to rule them all," such as Mass Effect. I don't feel like The Elder Scrolls is one of those series.
Oh for the love of little green tomatoes...

I roleplay my main recurring character as an avatar or living agent of the Scrolls, so him appearing at various points in history with the same appearance and abilities doesn't have to be explained away. He's the Mysterious Stranger. Like Pelinal, he appears when he needs to, and then goes away for a while. It just works for me.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.
