When I make a set of multiple items of enchanted apparel that I know I'll be wearing together, I have all their names start the same way so that they sort together alphabetically in my inventory.

One of my characters has Ghorbash the Iron Hand as a follower. He enchanted a tempered daedric mace with Fiery Soul Trap and Absorb Health and named it "Bloodboiler" before giving it to Ghorbash.

I'll almost always name amulets and rings if I intend to keep them after enchanting, that way I don't sell them by accident. I've only really custom-named a few weapons throughout my Skyrim career, I'll usually just add a prefix word to remind me what the weapon does, like Burning <Weapon Name> for a weapon that is flame enchanted, or <Weapon Name> of Souls for soul trappers. You know, like how things are normally named.

My few exceptions so far have been the "Number," an off-hand dagger that had a one-second paralyze effect, just long enough to annoy the crap out of NPCs while I continue to wail on them with the main-hand weapon. It's been so useful that I've had it on a few different characters.

Dunno what I'm gonna do on my current characters, they've been single-weapon types of late.
Oh for the love of little green tomatoes...

My named weapons tend to be an attempted blend of nostalgia, cool factor, and function, taking terms from old RPGs. My main character's weapons are a fire-enchanted sword 'Salamander,' after a favorite spell from the PS1 title Vandal Hearts (and back of that, a mythological creature that dwells in flame without being consumed), and a Dwemer shoulder-fired ballista 'Nazca Cannon,' designed for grounding great winged wyrms. Her companion, the war witch Illia, has a glass dagger of magicka absoprtion 'Wand of Mana Stealing,' after an item in Warcraft 3. During the Dawnguard DLC, Illia wielded a fiery mace 'Ashes to Ashes,' because biblical language is inherently cool.

Armor sets are easier to name, following a pattern but using vivid language. For example a custom suit of Blades armor, each piece reflecting the blessing of a deity for my Knight of the Nine character: gauntlets 'Dibella's Grace,' cloak 'Kyne's Aura,' boots 'Ethic of Zenithar,' etc. A scheme like 'Blessing of Akatosh,' 'Blessing of Stendarr,' etc. would be sensible in an alphabetized UI, but just too bland for me.

I usually give to my enchanted gear funny names that recall their function: "Gimme more magicka" for a ring of Fortify Magicka (gold sapphire, I try to choose a piece of appearel that suits its function), "Underwater explorer" for a Waterbreathing ring, "Necklace of Haul" for Fortify Carry weight, "Sword for little Adventurers" a wood sword I honed and enchanted for my child Alesan with paralyse and absorb stamina. "Chef Fork" and "Chef Knife" are the weapons I enchanted for my cannibal Bosmer, loyal to Namira.

I spotted some great ideas for future enchantments, expecially using Tamriel languages, naming after deeds or about the charachter! Countless possibilities really! Gonna use Ta'agra and Jel for Khajiit and Argonians :D

@Melete, I read all answers and began to quickly question if I was the only one who had thought to use the Dragon Tongue for naming my weapons... I'm glad I am not!

I had a roleplay in which my female Nord was in some way bonded with Dragons, most specifically, dear old Odahviing- She wore Dragonscale armour and the Jagged Crown (with a circlet too, but don't tell on me!) All her apparel was named Dragon Queen's ___ -Boots, Crown, Armour, Ring etc - Her swords however, were named in the tongue of her precious Dragons, both Dragonbone, the original named 'Sil'Duaan', Soul-Devoured, and the successor, 'Duaan'Sil'Toor', 'Devoured-Soul-Inferno' .... I wonder if any of you can guess the respective enchantments ;)

I find that when it comes to the naming of my gear, only weapons receive creative names, as mentioned earlier, most apparel in fiction goes unnamed, with the exception perhaps of Shields. I usually name outfits with corresponding names (see 'Dragon Queen's _____' above) just so that they are all grouped in my inventory, makes it easier for us console players to quickly equip entire outfits, essential when your slight over-immersion demands that you change outfits based on situation-- NO, I won't swim in armour, and I WILL dress nicely for a stroll through town!

An Imperial character can get away with the name 'Scirocco' (the hot wind of the south) and 'Mistral' (cold wind of the north) for a pair of weapons, Fire and Frost enchanted respectively. Given that Imperial naming convention is somewhat Mediterranean, naming them after two of the cardinal winds of the Mediterranean seems rather fitting.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

That reminds me: I must name a Forsworn sword 'Mako' one of these days, then re-skin it to that perfect shade of blue and white (that, or simply paint the shark to match the sword's current colors).

I've never understood the tempering of Foresworn weapons. These things are Flintstonian sticks and stones lashed together with leather strips, yet they require Steel Ingots to improve them.

A more sensible tempering option for Forsworn weapons would be Leather Strips, lashing the pieces tighter together. Just like Duck Tape.

A nice name I'd link with 'Meridian' would be 'Nexus', perhaps to a dagger or other off-hand weapon paired with such a sword. Meridian being that which divides, Nexus being that which connects.

But I still love 'Whisper' for a bow. So much so that my current incarnation of Casandra has dropped the Ebony-bow 'Dark Spark' motif and fashioned an Imperial Bow with comparable damage via a temporary console boost to Smithing. Once I get Frost and Paralyze running through the Enchantment options, the bow will be named. Cassie has always leaned towards the rustic-looking weapons, even back in the days of Oblivion with her steel hatchet and Black Bow. The Imperial Bow in Skyrim is rather unobstrusive looking compared to anything else. I was tempted to smith up an Iron Sword along with it, as I cannot abide the scabbard slung with Steel swords and the like. Swords on a frog are a plus, as having an empty scabbard flapping at your side in the middle of combat is stupid and unrealistic.

I'm rather unimaginative when it comes to naming melee weapons. For instance, almost every character I have has a Soul Trap-enchanted dagger named "Grim Reaper". The best name I've come up with was Aurora Borealis for a sword that did both fire and frost damage. A freezing flame, like the aurora, you see? Maybe I should start borrowing names from mythical swords, like Notung.

Bows I tend to name with names like Thunderer or Lightning (shock Damage) or Northwind (frost damage). Other gear gets names that fit the enchantment's theme. For instance, an increase carry weight ring might get named Looter's Ring. Or a shield that increases fire resistance might be Wyrmward (i.e. protector from dragons).

His little bit of personal lore was that there will be a great threat to Skyrim after the Dovahkiin left, and only 9 heroes from the 9 holds wielding these 9 sword (Each) in service of the 9 divines, would be able to save Skyrim.
Do you realize how good of an idea this is!? I would name the blades after the holds in my game but probably after what they best exemplify. But I am definitely loving this idea.

Long before even beginning a character, I created a fair bit of lore for what his plotline was, who he'd meet, which Holds he'd become Thane of... Part of my plan was for him to create a Glass War Axe, which I titled Ysblaen, for its Northern roots: Ice's Blow.

This plan eventually dissolved as I went on and evolved my character, but I named his Dwarven Bow 'Dwalinne' – yes, The Hobbit was the source of inspiration, but the name works.

I've always had some difficulty with becoming Thane of Markarth, due to the Hrolfdir's Shield quest not appearing for me (even on an empty Miscellaneous Schedule). However, this character managed to unlock it and complete it.

The badge of office presented to him was a Glass War Axe.

This fit so well with my character's role at the time and gave the weapon a greater backstory. And, naturally, I enchanted it with frost damage and retitled it.

I have a tendency to opt for names that tie into the history of the weapon, rather than just making the names sound cool. Obviously, naming falls into the character's personality, too – some of them wouldn't name weapons because that's just not what they'd do. I'm rather a fan of RP :3

I've really only named two weapons, a dragonbone sword and dagger. The sword is enchanted with chaos and health absorption, it's name is Tiiraz Tey which means 'Sad Tale' in the dragon language. The dagger is enchanted with chaos and soul trap, it's named Bess after a friend. Aside from that I've also named an entire set of bonemold armor (with the guard variant chest piece), though I don't remember the name of it. I know the boots where named Nerevarine's Old Boots though.

O.K. I will be brief, but I could take pages:
Ursula carries mostly crafted and named weapons : Shock and Awe was one of the first.
Usually the name describes the characteristics or my favorite name; Annihilator.
For each of my followers is starts with their name then the weapon: Erik's Shock and absorb, Valdimar's Chaos and Zap 'em.
I just made a whole set of everything for Marcurio. ( Urs and Marc are fighting vampires right now. )
So I have an ebony dagger Vampire Annihilator.
I have something (an axe?) called shock the [&@%!] out of it.
so you never know, depend on my mood.

My current incarnation of Casandra is mucking about with an Iron Sword which I upgraded via 'modav Smithing' to deliver damage that is a little less pathetic (guards still call it a pigsticker fit only to hunt butterflies with). Since Cassie pulled this sword off the rack at the guard tower near the Pelagius Farm, I named the weapon "Whitewatch Munition No. 23" to further the illusion that it is an unremarkable ribbon of hammered iron pulled from a militia storeroom.

Well, I first went into the CK to rename Valdr's Lucky Dagger to 'Mister Stabby', but I later realized that this would carry over to characters other than Casandra Serein. I went back, upped the damage to that of Skyforge Steel, then renamed it the 'Skyforge Dagger'.

The actual Skyforge Steel Dagger is enchantable, but can't be sharpened with a Grinding Wheel. The 'Skyforge Dagger' can't be enchanted, but it is upgradeable. So, it's a tradeoff.

But to Cassie, the Skyforge Dagger will always be 'Mister Stabby' in her heart. Or in someone else's heart, as it were.

My first Dovahkiin was a Nord of simple tastes. His axes were named "Wiglaf" and "Sheb", after his two childhood dogs. He kept using these enchanted Steel war axes long after he could have traded them in for something "better". He sent Alduin, Harkon and Miraak to their graves with them, and will likely be buried with them someday. He feels that while he keeps these weapons by his side, he's emboldened by the spirits of his canine friends.

My Bosmeri vampire archer just retired her dear old Nightingale Bow and replaced it with a Dragonbone bow enchanted with Force (a Requiem-added enchantment which deals some irresistable damage and has a chance of sending the target flying like Fus-Ro-Dah); considering the effect and the wielder's aversion against intimate contact with males there could only be one name for it: it's called Groinkicker.

When it comes to naming weapons i generally try to think of the character who would use it. For example my bosmer stealth build: Faldlas Duskwind uses a glass bow i call the duskwind-dirvnni bow, which has shock damage and absorb health enchantments. Whereas my altmer battlemage: arivenna forwen uses an elven mace named ulfrics' bane, which has fire damage and stamina absorb enchantments. Just a couple of examples based upon the character being played at the time. I do realize that both of those weapon names suck and could be tossed back to oblivion. But you get my point, yes?
