Shadow Hide You

Shadow Hide You

Main Idea
The year is 3E 131. The Thieves' Guild is nothing but a ragtag bunch of petty larcenists. You are a new recruit in this fledgling group, ready to spread your wings and clip those of the ones who hold the wealth. Your only goal for now is to bring infamy and gold to the Guild. What lies for you in the future, no one knows.

What is this?
Shadow Hide You (SHY) is a freeform roleplay with an over-arching story which will be revealed as the roleplay progresses. Players will be able to work solo or in groups to achieve common goals for the Thieves' Guild as well as work their way up in rank within the Guild.

Mechanics
SHY will have you pick Major and Minor skills, which will determine the outcome of a certain action. Major skills will start with a 30% probability and have up to an 85% probability of success, Minor Skills will start with a 10% probability and have up to a 60% chance of success. Skills must be trained and will get stronger with time and experience (much like TES). Untrained skills start at 5% and have a maximum of 20% probability of success.

Determining your success Is up to the DM. Chance will play a part, as will aptitude at your chosen skills, and quality of writing.

Most of your character's actions will be stealth oriented. However, if you fail at sneaking past a guard you will have to either flee or fight. Keep that in mind when creating a character.

You can sell items or upgrade your gear through fences or other players. There will be one fence per major city. Stolen items will have a set value at which you can sell to or buy from fences. If you choose to sell or buy from a player, the seller will set the buying price. Negotiation is an option.

You gain experience by stealing and fencing things. The amount of experience is determined by the value of the item.
Stealing an item: 1 xp per gold it is worth
Fencing an item: .25 xp per gold it is worth
So if you steal an item and fence it you will get 1.25 times the item's worth in xp.

Jobs
Jobs will be posted weekly in the main Thieves Guild Hall in the Imperial City. A list of available jobs will be kept at the bottom of this post. Each job will have its own set of requirements you must meet to be able to take it. Jobs will be on a first-come-first-served basis, and must be taken in character (describe your character taking the posting and speaking to Maro about the job).

Special Jobs
Every once in a while there will be a special job that helps progress the over-arching story. These can only be done in groups of two or more, just so players don’t miss out on an opportunity.

Ranks
Pickpocket: 0xp - 500xp
Footpad: 501xp - 1000xp
Bandit: 1001xp - 2000xp
Prowler: 2001xp - 3500xp
Cat Burglar: 3501xp - 6000xp
Shadowfoot: 6001xp - 10000xp
Master Thief: 10000xp - ??

Rules
-No godmodding
-Don't be a jerk. Should be self-explanitory
-Don't try and break the game
-Have fun!
-The DM is the final word

Thieves Guild Members:

Username: Musicman
Character Name: Maro
Race: Breton
Age: 31
Background (Why are you the way you are?): Maro can't remember a time when he didn't steal. Not to survive, but for the fun of it. Maro, born Marc Rosewater, lived a life of privilege in the Imperial City. His father had trade agreements with all sort of people, and made an excessive amount of money through the importing and selling of goods from all corners of Tamriel. Maro used to make a game out of how much he could take from a shipment without it being noticed. His father was fastidious with the books, however, so he would more often than not have to not only steal the item, but then reverse pickpocket some poor unsuspecting sailor, who would then get the blame for the theft.

While playing his game one day, he noticed a strange man standing on the docks several yards away, staring at him. He thought it odd, but shrugged it off. He had just been able to pilfer an ornate dagger made of gold and gems from the cargo, and now was the time to plant it on the large, dim-witted captain of the ship. Maro reached into the pocket of his breeches, where he had put the dagger. It was gone! Maro searched high and low for the dagger but could not find it. Instead of the captain of the ship being arrested for theft, his father had to pay back the money placed as deposit for the item. That night Maro woke up to find the same man who had been on the docks now standing in his room, holding the golden dagger in his hand. The Master Thief began the boy's training that night, when Maro was only fourteen.
Physical description (what do you look like): (you will start out with plain black pants, shirt, and shoes) Maro wears the typical uniform of a thief: black shirt, pants, and mask that covers the lower half of his face. His hair is shoulder-length and as black as his clothes. His piercing cool blue eyes stare out at anyone who would dare look into them. He stands at a height of just under six feet, a thin but muscular build. Often stoic, Maro is an enigma within the Thieves Guild. No one knows who he really is, or what he and the Master Thief have been planning for the last decade.
Major Skills: (choose three) ???
Minor Skills: (choose three) ???

=====================

Name: Melaris
Race: Dunmer
Gender: Female
Position: Potion Master

Physical Description: Average height, deep crimson hair she keeps trimmed so that it doesn't cover her neck. Light grey/blue skin with a few dark navy "freckles" scattered about her cheeks. Her eyes are a piercing vibrant red. Her body is toned but not muscular, long thin legs and arms, small chest. She wears black pants and tunic, a dark blue belt around her waist keeps her poisoned dagger within reach. A small leather pouch tinkles when she moves quickly, the vials of poison clicking together.

======================

Name: Dominic
Race: Imperial
Gender: Male
Position: Weapons Master

Physical Description: Average height and build. Doesn't look like much of a threat, but his muscles are stronger and quicker than they appear. An expert swordsman, he can disarm any opponent within seconds. His hair is dark and thick, hanging in bunches from his head down to his shoulders. His face bears the scars of past battles, the most prominent of which is on the left side of his brow, slicing from the top of his forehead in a diagonal, missing his eye by a hair's breadth. He wears blue pants, brown boots, and leather armor on his upper body. His ebony sword hangs at his side at all times.

===============

Name: Dar'Virr
Race: Khajiit
Gender: Male
Position: Sneakthief

Physical Description: Dar'Virr's, fur is a dark gold, almost brown. He has a short-cut mane like a lion, and a tuft of long fur at his chin that he braids with red beads and gold thread. His large round eyes are light green with flecks of blue. Small and thin, he is a master at stealth, picking pockets and locks. He wears a black short-sleeved tunic and black short pants. A gold chain can be seen around his neck, but whatever hangs on it is concealed within his shirt, kept close to his chest. He carries no weapons, relying on his claws to get him out of sticky situations.

==================

Name: Emma
Race: Nord
Gender: Female
Position: Initiate

Physical Description: Emma is a true Nord, blonde hair, crystal blue eyes, muscular and trim. Her large chest is the first thing many people notice, but if they notice it too much Emma will redirect their eyes elsewhere, usually by punching their face. Her own face is angular but pretty. High cheekbones and a small rounded chin give her smile an exceptional charm. Her specialty is persuasion, both with her looks and her fists.

=====================

Name: Two-Shadows
Race: Argonian
Gender: Male
Position: Shadowfoot

Physical Description: Shadows is mainly black scaled, with stripes of crimson running from the middle of his back outward, up to and including his neck and head. A red double crest adorns the top of his head, just above his narrow green eyes. He is usually seen wearing only black pants, but on occasion will wear a black hooded tunic as well. A former Shadowscale, Shadows got bored with the killing and decided the true thrill was taking things right under a live person's nose. Trained with the sword and bow, he can use and train either, but prefers to use stealth and cunning in his work.

====================

Name: Dack
Race: Breton
Gender: Male
Position: Master Mage

Physical Description: Said to be handsome by any who lay eyes on him, Dack has a certain flair for the Illusionary and manipulative arts. His dark hair cascades down to his shoulders. His square jawline and full lips would not find themselves amiss on a legendary hero's face. A patch of facial hair resides on his chin, completing the "dreamy" ensemble. He wears blue leather pants, so dark they could be called black, a black shirt and a leather jacket of dark blue and crimson.

I've been saving this for such an RP. I had a few others I could of use, all being Rogue based characters.. but this one held both elegance and simplicity. I'm gonna be a bit complexed with the skills though.. I know Marksman will be a Major, and sneak will be added in.. but I don't know if lockpicking or hell even illusion should be thrown in

Added a character sheet for Maro (the guy your characters will meet first), as well as an explanation about skills. You can use skills from the Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim games. All spells will be available as well (including Levitate, Mark and Recall). Spells are not silent or invisible, though. Cast a spell with people nearby and they will probably hear and see it.

Edit: I think I'd like to start this at the end if this month or the beginning of next, regardless of how many players I have. After it starts, however, it will be perpetually open for new players.

Sounds great Mm!

I do have a bit of a question in regards to gear. Can clothing still comprise of tougher material<_< though certainly offer no traits in terms of defense? Like say.. a leather tunic

Yes. Feel free to dress your character however you'd like. At the beginning of the RP they'll be given a uniform, but they won't be required to wear it.

Crosses le finger, hoping for a leather armor uniform.. and not some ragged robe..

By chance do you intend for the uniform to receive upgrades/customization upon advancement in the ranks? Or do you have something else in mind<_<

Character Name: Paras
Race: Breton
Age: 30's
Background (Why are you the way you are?): Paras was born in a Forsworn camp in Skyrim, Karthspire to be specific. He always had a fascination with business, supply and demand, etc. He was especially good at finding supply. He also had a very strong interest in magic, particularly illusion and alteration. He learned to use illusion to help him sneak and steal what he could, even from other clan members. He also used alteration, particularly telekinesis to help get things from where he couldn't reach and unlock to open anything he couldn't otherwise open.

When he was 18 he was caught stealing from a merchant caravan and was taken to Cidhna Mine. Because he was a forsworn the authorities were going to make sure that he never got out, so they set a very high amount of silver for him to mine. After mining out a small shaft just across from the entrance, he started storing his silver there until he reached the unimaginable amount. After a year or two of hard labor, he had enough. He tricked a guard into coming in by saying that he found something strange. While the guard was looking around his area, he grabbed a bottle of skooma he got off another inmate, and forced the fluid down the guard's throat. The guard quickly passed out from the narcotic, and he swiped the guard's key. Paras then carefully sneaked through the facility using illusion magic to help him. After some looking around he found their vaults, used alteration magic to open it, and grabbed all the silver he could, using telekinesis to hold some of it. He looked by the entrance, and decided that he couldn't take out or make it past all the guards, so he went back to his part of the mine. Once the guard woke up he convinced the guard that he had just passed out, and suggested that perhaps he drank too much mead last night. The guard agreed and stumbled back out.

The next day he told the guards that he had mined enough, and to all the guards' amazement, he did. (not counting what he hid in his clothes.) The guards were so astonished that they didn't even realize that they were already in ingot form. It took them exactly 2 hours after his release for them to realize that the vault was empty, and he had fled the city.

Once he was free he fled to Riften, where he commissioned a silver amulet to be made, and now wears it around his neck as a reminder not to go back to jail. He served as a sailor for a few years going from Riften, to Morrowind, to Anvil. He has been almost everywhere since, and got better at fighting thanks to a lot of drunken sailors on the various ships he's served on. Eventually he tired of the sailors life and left when they landed in the Waterfront district in the Imperial City. It didn't take long for him to realize that there was plenty to be stolen in the city.

Physical description (what do you look like): (you will start out with plain black pants, shirt, and shoes) Paras wears the plain black with pride. He also wears a black mask over his eyes and a long bandana over his hair. (Think dread pirate Roberts.) Beneath he has brown hair, short and cropped. His eyes are as green as the Reach, and he is roughly 5ft 7. He has a scar of 3 gashes going down the center of his forehead from a nasty encounter with a bear in his youth, which is why he wears the mask. He has a thin build and doesn't often use what fighting skills he has when magic allows him to avoid the conflict.

Equipment:Black shirt, pants, boots and mask. He also has his silver amulet around his neck, and a steel cutlass at his waist.

Major Skills: (choose three) Illusion (Invisibility, Muffle, Charm), Alteration (telekinesis, detect life, unlock) and Speech
Minor Skills: (choose three) Sneak, Blade and Light Armor

Once or twice a week would be sufficient, I would think. It all depends on who you group up with, or if you go solo. If you go solo you could progress at your own pace, but might miss out on some of the more interesting jobs. You might also try grouping with people who want to go at a slower pace so you can still have interaction with people besides NPCs. It's all up to you, really. :D

Character Name: Naragei
Race: Argonian male
Age: 24
Background: Born in Leyawiin, it didn't last long before before young Naragei turned to crime. It wasn't that he belonged to a poor household; his parents were good providers. He was simply a bored youngster who payed little attention to concepts like ownership. Or property. Or "Stop! You violated the law!" At first Naragei mostly swiped food from merchants, but the thrill he got from petty thievery soon lead breaking and entering.

At the age of seventeen he'd built up a nice little stash of miscellaneous jewelry, and he decided to travel to another city to sell it. He spent most of the following years stealing, moving to new places, and selling off his loot to unsuspecting merchants. Rinse and repeat.

Naragei is currently residing at an inn in the Elven Gardens district.

Physical description: A plain black set of clothes covers Naragei's tall, wiry frame. His skin is a greenish slate color, while his eyes are hawthorn yellow. His head is covered in short spines.

Equipment: A plain black shirt, pants and shoes. Two plain silver rings on his right hand. A concealed steel dagger. And of course a pocket of lockpicks. Lockpicks are key.

Major Skills: Sneak, Lockpicking, Speech
Minor Skills: Blade, Pickpocket, Acrobatics (aka parkour shenanigans)

Character Name: Raven M'Dar

Race: Breton

Gender: Female

Age: 27

Background:
:
Left in a world so cruel, orphaned at a time where memories seem to fade with but a strange ring that belonged to her mother. To be so young, to have no identity, her only sense of home was within the slums of Senchal, Elsweyr. To survive, she had to steal, hide, and at times, even fight for her life. Upon the age of 8, she could only do so much, but then everything changed. While trying to scavenge about through a camp site belonging to a small Caravan. Like a cornered rat she was exposed, one of the Khajiit discovered her within his tent, fearful for what would come next. However in a gentle tone, he asked her "Why do you feel the need to thieve? If it's out of greed, you're doing a very poor attempt then..."

To here was the first moment in her life she knew more than just unforgiving torment, but kindness. Thus she was taken under wing as if one of their own, at last she would know family. Ri'aaj, the Caravan's leader, was much of a father for her, teaching her more than just traditions and skills, but to know one's self. He gave her a sense of identity; calling her Raven, for their feathers are as black as her hair, and like a Ja'khajiit she cherished this more than anything. As she grew, she learned much of speech and trade, how to be agile and quiet, and of course what it took to be a true thief. Even on of the fellow caravans helped tutor her how to cast spells, and at times how easily tricked some can be.

However all good things must come to a end, and it was time for now young woman to take her own path. Despite protest, Ri'aaj told her she has learned all she could from them, and there was much more to experience in Nirn. Before her departure near the city of Torval, she was presented with a final parting gift: a dagger of elegant craft, certainly costing a small fortune. Ri'aaj bestowed this to his Kin, and anointing her with the surname M'Dar, telling her that the warm sands of Elsweyr will always await her return, and to when she grows, he will recognize her from then as S'Dar. To say no tears of joy and sadness fell upon the sand would be but a lie. And so she left her adopted family behind, in search of what the world could present.

Time passed, and travels have varied, but the young Breton learned her new found craft. While more delicate and demanding thieving has proven her status as an amateur, it was her skill at manipulation that served her best. Upon the roads, no more than a ranger who can fend off some wolves or fool some bandits.. within the city she found her way in service for the upper class and wealth. Enchanting males, sometimes acting as a maid for hire or a temporary house guest. She took it upon herself to steal beneath their very roof, either in stripping all that is of worth in a single night or slowly stashing away the occasional silverware/jewelry till the time is ripe. Sorcerers by far were her favorite to tease, always focused upon their studies and not on their valuables. And while indeed she was had a few complications, nothing that a quick illusion or dash of the feet can't do.

Eventually her travels placed her directly within the Imperial City, then again it wasn't purely by intent thanks to some sailors. Having spent 3 months time within the Capital, she has more than just made a living. Having charmed her into the Elven Gardens District, taking up residence in the guest room of an Altmer bachelor named Elidor Greylock; a wealthy author who prefers the simpler things in life. Acting as his maid and errand runner, these past months she has earned his trust along with a few other affections she could do without. It is no secret that he wishes to confess his love, and even intends to try and make Raven into his fiance. Sadly, she refuses any advances but cannot help but tease her soon to be victim. To when his advances get more aggressive, she will often spend the night in an Inn, and if not she has made habit to lock the guest room door from the inside. So while it may seem she's just playing hard to get or may even share some affection, in truth she can't wait to leave in a moment's notice. Still, even though she has been slowly nibbling away at his wealth, she still upholds her role as his caretaker. Within the last couple of weeks however, she is growing bored of the lack of challenge, and has even begun to steal from other residents within the city.
Physical description: Lovely and a face full of vigor, her hair as black as ravens, only beauty could be so pure. Eyes that pierce a wild green and skin so fair and pale. Her ears present some of her elven qualities, along with her smaller frame. Certainly athletic and nimble, she still shows her youth in full and carries about a confident posture. Of her sex appeal, it stands more to elegant charm than perversion, though it certainly doesn't hurt. Still, even if lacking in size, nothing that a lewd illusion can't fix. Of the few things she doesn't try to mask is the various small scars present, evidence of the harsh times she faced in childhood. Of the one trait that adds a sensation for the exotic, it is the aura of mystery that she casts about.

Attire/clothing: Her attire consists mainly of a single style and trend. From view, she sports a matching cowl and a large tunic along with a set of fingerless gloves, knee-high boots and travel pouches. Most of the material that acts as the outer layer is made from tailored leather, dark brown and resistant to water. Beneath in the undercoat, it is padded with cloth, both for comfort and warmth. With a few straps and metal studs, it certainly makes for a steady attire. If anything, it draws attention to her charms, be that her youthful face or her exposed legs. Aside from her more dominate attire, she does wear some appropriate under garments, including a dark patched shirt and shorts. To when she wants to look more 'fragile', she'll don more feminine garbs. To even further this lure, she has at times don an amulet of Dibella, if only to ensnare someone in her charm.

Upon her finger rests the only reminder of her ruined past. A black soul gem, cut in the form of a gem and encased by a ring of pure ebony. A bleak ring of certain omen, though she keeps it as if proof of her identity. To whom her parents are is still a mystery, but if anything this dark gem reflects her grown resentment for what she had to endure. Though it resonates with a magic she cannot sense, she may never learn what gifts or curse it could befell. Until then, it's just a really creepy ring

Equipment: Always by her side, kept away in it's sheath his her beloved dagger. Forged mainly of moonstone and edged with malachite, it's elegant style is only matched by it's edge. Etched upon it's sheath reads "For M'Dar, who has no claws". Befitting it's strong sentimental value, it has seen far less use than would be expected.

Made from fine wood of Elsweyr, she wields her trusted bow and paired with a quiver. Though certainly not her first, it is far from her last. It is bounded leather and reinforced by blackened steel, offering it not only some durability but also a few sharp edges for the unexpected. With the hooks upon each end, the only thing more deadlier is her arrows. Though she would prefer silver or even orichalc, she currently must make due with mundane steel.

Aside from daily provisions, a bit of moonsugar, handful of lockpicks, and a potion of minor healing; the only thing that really stands out is a coil that provides a thread of tempered silver. While indeed it can be used to restring the draw-string for her bow, it very well can be used for traps or even a weapon for assassination. Granted with exquisite taste, comes a need for supply of silver...

Wait >_> thought it needs to be asked, but sneak from morrowind & oblivion.. while it did include pickpocketing <_< it seems a little OP.. or at least kind of unfair for those that assumed it wasn't an overlapping skill like it was in skyrim. :wat: just a thought, should it overlap or not? And if not, would you allow previous sheets to make an edit upon their skills if they wish?

PS: Also it's sneak  not stealth btw. And b4 I forget, if you need help with finding a pic Dov, it doesn't hurt to ask :P
