Main Idea
The year is 3E 131. The Thieves' Guild is nothing but a ragtag bunch of petty larcenists. You are a new recruit in this fledgling group, ready to spread your wings and clip those of the ones who hold the wealth. Your only goal for now is to bring infamy and gold to the Guild. What lies for you in the future, no one knows.
What is this?
Shadow Hide You (SHY) is a freeform roleplay with an over-arching story which will be revealed as the roleplay progresses. Players will be able to work solo or in groups to achieve common goals for the Thieves' Guild as well as work their way up in rank within the Guild.
Mechanics
SHY will have you pick Major and Minor skills, which will determine the outcome of a certain action. Major skills will start with a 30% probability and have up to an 85% probability of success, Minor Skills will start with a 10% probability and have up to a 60% chance of success. Skills must be trained and will get stronger with time and experience (much like TES). Untrained skills start at 5% and have a maximum of 20% probability of success.
Determining your success Is up to the DM. Chance will play a part, as will aptitude at your chosen skills, and quality of writing.
Most of your character's actions will be stealth oriented. However, if you fail at sneaking past a guard you will have to either flee or fight. Keep that in mind when creating a character.
You can sell items or upgrade your gear through fences or other players. There will be one fence per major city. Stolen items will have a set value at which you can sell to or buy from fences. If you choose to sell or buy from a player, the seller will set the buying price. Negotiation is an option.
You gain experience by stealing and fencing things. The amount of experience is determined by the value of the item.
Stealing an item: 1 xp per gold it is worth
Fencing an item: .25 xp per gold it is worth
So if you steal an item and fence it you will get 1.25 times the item's worth in xp.
Jobs
Jobs will be posted weekly in the main Thieves Guild Hall in the Imperial City. A list of available jobs will be kept at the bottom of this post. Each job will have its own set of requirements you must meet to be able to take it. Jobs will be on a first-come-first-served basis, and must be taken in character (describe your character taking the posting and speaking to Maro about the job).
Special Jobs
Every once in a while there will be a special job that helps progress the over-arching story. These can only be done in groups of two or more, just so players don’t miss out on an opportunity.
