A Renegade's Justice

Post by Rook »

A Renegade's Justice
Note: This roleplay will most likely contain blood, gore, sexual situations, and racism. If you're averse to reading/writing about this, you might want to go somewhere else...

Plot:
Yippie-kai-yay, [&@%!]! As you can probably tell from that outburst, this roleplay takes place in the Old West. 1860, Texas, to be exact. You're a drifter, bandit, courier, etc., and you've found yourself in a small town called Bhindi. In the local tavern, to be specific. Wonder what'll happen there....

Mechanics:
Outcomes will be decided by a dice or myself, based on your character's attributes and/or traits/perks.

Weapons:
You are allowed to carry a knife/hatchet, one or two revolvers, and a two-handed weapon. If you forfeit the use of a two-hander, you can carry up to four revolvers (Bows and Spears count as two-handers).
Spoiler:
Colt Bisley: The Bisley is a single action revolver with a revolving cylinder holding six metallic cartridges.

Smith & Wesson model 3: The Smith & Wesson model 3 is a single-action, cartridge-firing, top-break revolver produced by Smith & Wesson

Coach Gun: A coach gun is a double-barreled shotgun, generally with barrels approximately 18" in length placed side-by-side. The name comes from the use of such shotguns on stagecoaches by shotgun messengers.

Winchester Rifle: Winchester rifle is usually used to refer to the lever-action rifles manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, though the company has also manufactured many rifles of other action types. Winchester rifles were among the earliest repeating rifles; the Winchester repeater is incredibly popular and is colloquially known as "The Gun that Won the West" for its predominant role in the hands of Western settlers.

Colt Lightning Carbine: The Carbine is a slide-action (pump-action) rifle manufactured by Colt and and was originally chambered in .44-40 caliber. Its profile somewhat resembles the pump-action rimfire rifles made by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Remington Arms. It isn't seen as reliable as other lever-action rifles.

Hunting Bow: Used mainly by the Native Americans, the hunting bow sees little use by settlers. However, it bears the distinct advantage of being quieter than a gunshot.

Knife: They're knives...

Hatchet: Basically a smaller axe.

Spears: Pointy sticks commonly used by Native Americans.

Attributes:
Attributes determine how you will perform at certain tasks. Each attribute begins with one point in it, and you can boost any attribute as high as you want. You start with 20 points to put into any attribute.

Strength: Determines how strong you are (duh), and how effective you are with melee weapons and your fists. Also determines how much you can carry.
Endurance: Determines how much punishment you can take.
Perception: Determines how accurate you are with all weapons, also allows you to detect things others might not notice.
Intelligence: NERRRRRRRD!Determines how much you know about the world. A character with a high Intelligence might receive hints on how to deal with situations. A high Intelligence and Perception is a deadly combo.
Charisma: Determines how people view you, and how eloquent you are in dialogue.
Agility: Determines how fast you can run, how high you can jump, how well you can climb, and how stealthy you are.

Traits/Perks:
You may choose two traits for your character sheet:
Spoiler:
Gunslinger: You gain 2+ Perception and 1+ Agility when using guns, but lose 3- Perception and -2 Strength when using melee weapons or hand-to-hand.
Hulk:You gain 2+ Strength and 1+ Endurance when using melee weapons or hand-to-hand, but lose 3- Strength and 2- Endurance when using guns. You also lose 1- Charisma regardless of your weapon.
Bloodthirsty: You gain 1+ Strength and 2+ Endurance whenever you kill someone, this lasts until the end of the fight. However, you lose 2- Strength, 4- Charisma, and 5- Endurance if you don't kill something within 48 hours.
Paranoid:You gain 4+ Perception, 2+ Agility, and 2+ Intelligence due to your paranoia, but lose 2- Charisma. However, when in close-combat, you lose 3- Strength 2- Endurance.
Black Cat:You gain 3+ Perception, 3+ Agility, and 1+ Intelligence. In addition, enemies tend to have accidents inside combat and out. Unfortunately, the roleplay treats you and your friends as enemies.
One with Nature:Animals won't attack you, and may aid you in combat. However, due to your reclusive nature you lose 3- Charisma, and people tend to be wary of you. As compensation, you gain 1+ Strength.
Bill Nye:You gain 8+ Intelligence, and 6+ Charisma, but lose 5- Strength, 3- Agility, and 5- Endurance.

Perks, however, are gained at specific times. You may choose one perk at a time, but not necessarily a new one.

Rules:
* No godmodding.
* I understand traveling the desert takes some time, so I'll put it up to a vote whenever you're traveling: You can use the time to interact with the others, or you can ask for a time skip.
*Try to avoid OP/Mary Sue characters (e.g. Laran Croft: Perfectly balanced stats, perfect face, and a 5ft dick to boot.)
* I'll try to stay faithful to history, but I might take a few liberties.
* I realize racism was prevalent back then, and it's by no means off limits, just try to keep it to a minimum. In addition, the big "N-Word" is forbidden, for obvious reasons.
*There is a story, but you're free to do whatever in between story events (e.g Pursue bounties, get drunk, rob banks).
*Don't be a jerk. I'll kick if I really have to, but please don't make me.
* Do I really need to say anything else? Bottom line: Don't. Be. Stupid.
* *Insert necessary rule about having fun here*
* Feedback/suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Hey, Deimos! Glad to have you.

By the way, a major typo was corrected. 1913 was way too late, so the date has been switched to 1860, as it should have been.

Now that brings back memories. Mostly of being killed by Cazadors... :)

As for a player cap, it's non-existent. I'm not expecting too many people anyway, seeing as it's my first time DMing.

Here is my character, Rooky!
Spoiler:
Name: Alex Gregson
Age:32
Sex:Male
Reason for being in Bhindi: Resting for a few days.
Appearance:Alex is a 5'6ft tall man. He is unshaven and has dark brown mullet. His face is thin and his nose is a bit small. His ears are medium sized and he has scars on his right cheek. They were caused by an explosion.
Clothing: Alex wears a white shirt under a dark green vest which has 2 pockets on the front. He wears brown trousers and black leather boots. He wears a dark brown duster with a black cowboy hat.
Weapons: 2 Colt Bisleys and a Winchester Rifle. 1 Knife.
Other Items: A satchel, various wanted posters of various wanted people, a pocket watch. And various types of ammo for his weapons.
Attributes:
S -3
E -5
P -5
I -3
A -4
Two Traits:Gunslinger
Personality: Alex tries to be kind to everyone he meets. He respects woman and treats them as humans. He doesn't tolorate those that try to rape woman and is known to kill would be rapists. He is no stranger to a bar fight. He knows the stuff he does is not the best way to live but believes that he is keeping the vermin away from hard working honest folk. He tends to help those that needs help.
Background: Alex Gregson grew up on a ranch in the west. His father was a hard working honest joe that owed debts to some bad people. His mother was a teacher at the nearby town. The ranch was neither rich or poor. But the debts proved to be the death of it.

At the age of 15, the debtors sent some men to burn down the barn after his father failed to pay what was owed. A few weeks after the barn was burned down, the entire ranch was siezed and the Gregsons were evicted. They moved into the nearby town and rented a room in the saloon.

His father was killed by a bandit after he defended his wife's honour. His mother was raped and killed a few days later. Using what cash he had left, he purchased a revolvor and went to kill the rapist. He spent weeks looking for the [&@%!] before finding him. He ambushed him and killed him. He knew he had no future in ranching and knew he had to get out of the county. So he laid low untill he was old enough to join the miltary and supported himself via odd jobs. From courier work to barn work. He constantly moved from town to town to avoid being hunted down and killed by the rapist's friends.

He served in the miltary for 10 years. He saw his fair amount of action and recieved some scars after an explosion engulfed the squad he was in. He was very lucky to come out of it alive and with just some scars. He was shot for disobeying orders when he refused to take part in a raid on an native american village then dishonourably discharged. He knew he had no other means to support himself other then using his skills as a miltary soldier so he became a bounty hunter. He often tried to bring in his bounties alive unless they were rapists. He recently stopped in the town of Bhindi to resupply and to rest in between bounties.

Deimos:
Spoiler:
Name: Jacen 'Jace' O'Connor
Age: 27
Sex: Male
Reason for being in Bhindi: Resting up a few days and gathering supplies, before moving on
Appearance:Jacen has long black hair and a trimmed, well kept beard. His eyes are a deep, dark blue color, like that of the ocean.
Hidden:
Image
Clothing: button up shirt, vest, duster coat, slacks, cowboy hat, cowboy boots with spurs, all black
Weapons: Knife, 2 Smith & Wesson Model 3 revolvers, and Winchester Rifle
Other Items:
Attributes:
S - 4
E - 5
P - 6
I - 5
C - 2
A - 4
Trait(s): Gunslinger
Personality: Jace is not a real big 'people' person. He often struggles to find the right things to say at the right times, and often gets into worse situations because of his attitude. To other people, Jace may seem like a heartless, cynical person. In reality, Jace's previous experiences have left him a bit emotionless, though that's not to say he's a sociopath.
Background:
Jace was born in Northwest Louisiana, on a plantation. His father was a right, arrogant plantation owner, while his mother was quite the opposite. She came from humble roots, and worked her whole life. She fell in love with Jace's father when they were young, but she now despised him because of how he let money control him and how he treated their slaves. When Jace was a boy of about 2 years old, his mother had an affair with one of the slaves. Though His father didn't immediately find this out, about 9 months later, she had a child. And though his father wasn't surprised when she was pregnant, he was a bit shocked when the baby came out a bit on the brown side. That night was the night Jace remembered as a child. He remembered his father yelling, his mother crying, and then the silence that came after. This early memory stuck with him through his whole life. He then searched all of his land for his wife's son, who he had earlier made the slaves care for while he 'took care' of his wife. He never found the newborn child who the slaves had hidden away safely. . That was until years later.

When Jacen was 12 years old, his half brother, who had been named Jay, re-emerged. 10 years old by then, he was getting harder to kept hidden. The guards found him and his father hidden underground, beneath the sleeping quarters (which had been built without notice be the guards of Jacen's father). Realizing that the kid was the one his wife had had all those years back, he was to have both the father and son killed. He first killed the father, much to Jacen's disgust. Just before he could have the boy killed, Jacen intervened. Somehow managing to reason with his father, Jacen got him to spare his half-brothers life.

Over the years, Jacen and Jay had grown close, but now his father treated both young men with disgust. Even his own son he treated like a slave, often beating him and Jay together. One day though, when Jacen and Jay were 17 and 15 respectively, they were about to drive to town to get some supplies as his father had told him to do earlier. About that time, he rode up to the house and stumbled off of his horse completely drunk. Completely oblivious that he had told his son to go to town, or even what his own name was, he pulled out a revolver and slapped his son across the face with it. He then, clumsily, took aim at a motionless Jay. Just then, his mother ran out, bruised and beaten as always and tried to keep the situation from escalating. But instead, he swinging the gun around, the drunken, sorry excuse of a man fatally shot Jace's mother. Jacen, cursing his father, tackled him to the ground and beat him. The fit boy easy bested his old drunken father. Jay did his best to pull him away and the boys ran off together. They managed to get away, but Jacen was grazed on his shoulder while running down the road by his own father.

The boys lived in town at a tavern, working themselves to death for anyone who would take them. About a month after the incident at the plantation, Jacen's father accidentally discharges a shotgun while cleaning it, spraying his brains on the walls. Jacen felt no guilt at that however, believing it karma. Anywhere they went from there, Jay was harassed by locals, but Jacen was always there to back him up, even though Jay insisted he was okay. Eventually they ended up in Mansfield, Louisiana, a small town near the Texas-Louisiana border. They became law officers there, Jacen being 25 at the time. They were 2 of only 5 officers there, and the other 3, the Sheriff, his deputy, and another new officer, all took to insulting Jay, but only took him because of the rising crime in the area, and lack of volunteers. While Jacen, Jay, and the other new officer were investigating gun shots out in the woods, the suspects turned their aim on the officers. The unnamed officer was the first to fall, as he was fleeing rather than taking cover. Jacen and Jay took turns laying down fire so the other could advance. During the fight, Jay took a shot to the leg, severing a main artery. Jacen ran to him did his best to carry him back to town while also firing back at the bandits. Upon getting him back to the Sheriff's station, they offered no help. Jacen knew the reason was that they didn't want to help a half black man. But before Jacen could get a doctor, Jay had bled out.

Jacen left law enforcement after that. He became a bounty hunter, though not so much for the money, but more so to help people. He headed out west, eventually ending up in Bhindi, Texas.

He has no real problems with Indians, believing as they were here first, it was their right to get killed. Jack also believes that he is justified in anything as long as he gets paid, resulting in his being banned from Canada.
Background: Sinclair had a normal upbringing, but realised early on that he didn't much like those different than him. This hatred escalated when he found out you could get paid for killing these minorities. It's mellowed out over his years as a bounty hunter, but he still distrusts them.

KHW
Spoiler:
Name: Sean Casey
Age: 36
Sex: Male
Reason for being in Bhindi: Passing through, trade, rest...
Appearance: 6ft tall, clean shaved, short black hair that he usually combs back. Sean is skinny with a thin face, he is relatively good looking.
Clothing: In town, Sean likes to dress well. He will wear black trousers pulled up high, a white shirt and black waistcoat with a black tail coat over (Sean could only afford one set of clothes like this, so he often wears the same clothes for days). When traveling Sean will wear more modest attire, cheaper shirts, a light brown vest, duster coat, cheaper black trouser etc..
Weapons: 2 Colt Bisleys, Winchester Rifle, a knife

Attributes:

S - 6 (-5)
E - 7 (-5)
P - 6
I - 1 (+8)
C - 1 (+6)
A -5 (-3)

Trait(s): Bill Nye

Personality: Sean is a conman. Smart and charismatic, he has a natural charm and is able to persuade most people. He makes false friends easily, but can end these false friendships just as easily, if and when it suits him. He will be more loyal in a true friendship/companionship, but these are rare. He doesn’t like to get himself too connected to people, in case of an opportunity to profit from them. He’s a natural liar and cheat, always thinking of the easiest, and most profitable, way to solve a problem or complete a task. He is ruthless in his cons and in combat, where he has a keen eye. He stays out of melee distance in fights and avoids them if he can; there are few times he can’t talk his way out of these situations.

Backstory: Sean was born in New York to english parents who had recently immigrated to America. His father had expected life to be better in America, but his family had ended up living in poverty when his father struggled to find a good job. Sean spent most of his time in the streets, working small jobs to make money for the family. School wasn’t yet mandatory in New York, so he only attended for a few years, where he learnt to read. He was fascinated by reading and even though he couldn’t go to school as he had to work, he was determined to learn more. He began stealing books, inventing unique ways to get them off people. Soon he began stealing everything and began conning people. These cons were simple and small, but he began to get nearly as much money as he would by working on the street, polishing shoes and such. He began to lie to his parents about working and went out to steal from people. Pickpocketing, sweet talking, etc; he acquired plenty of tricks. He lived this way for many years, and continued to read lots of books. He was intelligent, but uneducated, and struggled to get good jobs. As an adult he continued stealing from people, becoming a capable con artist. Hearing and reading about fortunes to be made out west, he headed out there in the hope of becoming rich. Out west he does the same as he did in New York; cons people. However life out there is more dangerous, he’s learnt to shoot and is quite capable with a gun, despite being weak in melee. He travels between towns, so he’s always gone before people realised they’ve been conned. On his travels he wound up in Bindi, where he rested for a few days, planning his next cons.

He is incredibly respectful to citizens.
Background: Jacob was raised on a ranch just outside of Bhindi where he learned how to ride a horse and fire a revolver. When he was sixteen, his dad was abducted by a group of Bandits while he was out working in the fields.
Jacob joined the group of lawmen that went to chase down the bandits and outside their hideout he discovered his father's bloody clothes being torn apart by dogs, seeing no point in letting a group of notorious murderers and thieves live, the lawmen decided to execute the lot.
It was only afterwards when they discovered the body of the group's leader, that Jacob learned that his father wasn't abducted but was actually the head of the group. The boy was absolutely outraged by the discovery, but the sheriff calmed him down and handed him a star- telling the lad he was a new deputy.
As he grew older, Jacob developed a mild drinking addiction- something that has become less and less of a problem in recent years.
To this very day, the Deputy has kept the star he was given those years ago.

Attributes:
S - 5

Personality: Shaky believer in confederacy beliefs, he is in fact, by belief, a secret unionist (yes I know that by now these two states were forming very early on). He is fairly confident, but not overly, of his abilities, Curious and adventurous.
Background: Born in Arizona in 1815, he was pressed into joining a local militia that patrolled the trails, slowly rising through the ranks to earn a captaincy. Little happened, courier detail, trailing caravans etc. until 1860, when the confederate states were formed following the election of Abraham Lincoln, when his militia was absorbed into the confederate army. He was sent on a protection assignment to a confederate official with business in Texas, when the group were ambushed by Native Americans. They were easily pushed back however, but in the chaos the Captain slipped away, looking for a chance for rest, soon arriving at the local saloon…

No problem. Anyway, you don't have to ask permission to join, you just put up a sheet and see if it gets accepted.

But yeah, you can join.
