Re: What's your preferred combat style, reality vs TES?
Definitely Elder Scrolls.
My combat style in reality is either to run over the assailant's foot with my electric wheelchair (the bloody thing weighs over 100 kg without batteries or me in it!) or hit them with my walking stick. Actually, a walking stick to the crotch has so far fended off every real attack I've ever had, but it's not very elegant. Can you imagine an entire game of that? It'd get boring fast.

More effective against the male attackers too.
Plus lots of enemies dont have crotches. Ice Wraiths and will o' the wisps etc.
Zooming round Tamriel on an electric wheelchair would be a good way to travel though!

"Real life? Trying to run away, but tripping over my own feet? Like 95% of real people? Come on, don't try to convince us you're some fearless BAMFs, it sounds like a really bad nerd joke..."
Other than this being spot on if I had to stand and fight and was presented with a selection of Skreponry to use I would avoid anything heavy because I would not want to be cut while lugging it about and would use a nice sharp and light stabbing weapon (ebony or iron sword) to just try and stab them quickly at a reasonable distance and another one to throw at them and hopefully make an opening or take them out with there.
Self preservation!

IRL:
Budget -> US M1911, excellent but cheap weapon. In real life I wouldn't get myself on a situation where I would need an automatic weapon.
Unlimited -> Sig Sauer P229. Quite expansive but it's very reliable.
In Game/Fantasy:
I like bow and cloack&dagger, there is no sense getting on your enemies sight but if by any means I get into a ugly situation, I would like to have a blunt weapon like a Mace with me. It's way easier to mantain than a sword or axe but is quite effective even against heavy armored foes.
If anything, throwing stone is very efficient and legit way of fighting. It gets lot better with a sling, though.

Light, practical, makes plenty of big holes.
Yeah, I know it was invented by Nazi mad scientists and somesuch. But all that red tape kept it off the ground.

Taurus' licensed production firearms have quite a good quality and last time I checked their 1911 cost around US$500.Archer wrote:That's a funny joke you got right there!Sorenant wrote:IRL:

That's not cheap in the eyes of your average person. You can buy a lot with 500 dollars.Sorenant wrote:Taurus' licensed production firearms have quite a good quality and last time I checked their 1911 cost around US$500.Archer wrote:That's a funny joke you got right there!Sorenant wrote:IRL:

Also take into count that its not $500 anymore. After looking around, the cheapest you'll get is about $750. And that's if you're lucky.

Then there's the cost of the ammo, individual rounds may not be expensive. But the cost for magazines as far as I know has been jacked up.

Indeed, 750 bucks is quite a lot of money but you pay for it once and it's over. I would expect about 50k shots even on half-decent quality pistols and if you're using it for home defense you won't even come close to this number. Also, Taurus for instance have lifetime warranty.Archer wrote:Also take into count that its not $500 anymore. After looking around, the cheapest you'll get is about $750. And that's if you're lucky.
I've heard about people with still fireable civil war era firearms. If you maintain your gun regularly, it won't betray you.
If you want something cheaper, you can look for chinese Makarov/Tokarev but I would never trust my life on weapons like that.

Re: What's your preferred combat style, reality vs TES?
Ranger/Rogue with a lightbow or throwing spears & axes (short & double-bitted).
Dual-Wield with emphasis on main-hand strike, off-hand parry, dual counter-strike, & disarm/grappling.
Hawk n' Dirk = War-Axe (long bit) & Dagger (13 inc blade at least)
Axes can do alot of damage in both real life & in game. I also enjoy the flexibility of an axe over a mace...but you need a good deal of strength to handle either.
I like the look & handle of the axe (tomahawk & hand-war-axe) in real life. They're light but require strength to handle & impact with alot of force if you can generate it.
In real life, you can quickly & easily bite, hack, smash, hook, punch, or hurl, all with an axe.
Compared to other weapons when dealing with armor, the axe excels (in real life) by having a both penetration ability & blunt force. It may be used against light (cloth/leather), medium (leather & wood) or heavy armor (steel or synthetic composition).
TES axe combat leaves me a little disappointed but I always prefer them over other weapons.
Like in Skyrim, where Axe's didn't cause Critical Damage, but Bleeding.
In reality, Axes bite hard & deep & Swords cut swift & broad
...so the type of damage in Skyrim simply does not make sense.
TES sucks generally when it comes to tactical combat & the philosophy & esoterics of weapon use & injury.
