Comparing the dunmer to North Korea is an insult beyond words. North Korea is a defunct police state run on the failed aspects of communism with an idiot in power backed by people who like the sound of money dropping into bank accounts. Morrowind in no possible way can ever ever ever ever ever be compared to North Korea. I cannot emphasize enough that North Korea is a failed state and Morrowind is very much the opposite. And I'll be honest, I disdain elves in general, but dunmer and orcs are at least unique, and making such a god awful comparison is just complete idiocy.Opi wrote:Sort of. Anyhow, I'm completely right on that, North Korea is a defunct police state with a immature brat idolized as a god in their society. House Redoran is nowhere near an immature brat backed by a corrupt military. And not to go too far off topic but I'm a human, I like other humans. When I see altmer banning a controversial human god but holding someone like Magnus as acceptable it [&@%!] me off. Also, bosmer are stereotype rip offs, and altmer are also the same thing. At least Dunmer and Orsimer have their own unique lore and story. Altmer and bosmer don't even have that.

Re: Do you Pity the Dunmer?
Actually, I'm not so sure. Going before the Red Year and whatnot, the tribunal became gods (much like the cult of personality surrounding the Kim Dynasty, and particularly its founder), the Temple/Workers Party of Korea lay down the law of these gods/dictators, enforced by Ordinators/The Korean People's Army. Both the Temple and the DPRK resent Imperialism, and what they believe to be an occupation of their lands. House Indoril/The KPA often challenge these occupations. They both have a racial hatred toward outsiders.Derp53 wrote:Comparing the dunmer to North Korea is an insult beyond words. Plus the Juche Idea, much like anything to come out of Vivec's mouth, makes no sense.

No, I'm just kidding.
Those are some interesting comparisons, I must say. Very creative.

Considering the lingering strength and pride of the Dunmer as a people, it's more a solidarity than a pity I feel for them.

Take a chill pill buddy. I should of been more specific, I am comparing more the people of both nations rather than the governments. But now that I think about it, they aren't so different.Derp53 wrote:Comparing the dunmer to North Korea is an insult beyond words. I'd disagree, your average dunmer isn't a malnourished, misguided, stupid pawn. The tribunal did exert a lot of influence, but, your average north korean is nowhere near your average dunmerOpi wrote:Take a chill pill buddy. We'd probably need more evidence to go on to establish that.Derp53 wrote: I'd disagree, your average dunmer isn't a malnourished, misguided, stupid pawn. The tribunal did exert a lot of influence, but, your average north korean is nowhere near your average dunmer
Another thing I just thought of. A number of North Korean dissadents seek asylum in China to the west. A number of dunmer dissadents sought asylum in the west, in Skyrim and Cyrodiil. And any dissent from the ruling line of the temple/party is punished by concentration camps.
Both Morrowind and North korea were left ruined after a devastating event.

Re: Do you Pity the Dunmer?
I pity the average Dunmer, but not their elites. The elite had the political power to change things, and they were well educated enough to be familiar with other customs (and because of this, I assume they were familiar with arguments against slavery). As for the average Dunmer, being an ignorant xenophobe isn't really a great way to live your life, but I don't think you deserve to be murdered/ see your family murdered because of it.

Re: Do you Pity the Dunmer?
I'd say: they don't need or want anyones pity, like a lot of people in here have said, the dunmer pick them selves up and move on, pity didn't help them come to terms with their sudden colour-change, neither did it help them survive on Solsteim, their lives are as hard as anyone else's, they know this, so they move on.
I'd pity them as soon as they are truly doomed, as they don't deserve such a fate, until then I'll respect them for what they are, korean- ... DUNMER!

Re: Do you Pity the Dunmer?
That's what I was getting at too, Mefris.Mefris Elmek wrote:"They deserved it",that's where it's coming from. The Chimer didn't choose to become the Dunmer, the Dunmer didn't choose to have a moonlet hover in stasis above an active volcano.Every decision concerning the Dunmer's fate was made for them by the Tribunal,Dagoth Ur,Sul etc.Half a dozen individuals making the wrong decisions doesn't warrant a "They deserved it" in my book.Br3admax wrote:Okay, I'm not quite sure where this "condemning" is coming from. Not a single person has condemned anyone. We simply do not pity them.
I agree, the Dunmer don't need or deserve any pity.
Saying an entire group of people deserves this or that based on the actions of their leaders - who were not elected, mind you. Literally three people condemned an entire race. The Dunmer are cursed because of the betrayal of three measly Chimer. That's... I wouldn't call that deserved or honorable on the part of the gods.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Do you Pity the Dunmer?
As much as I love the Dunmer, and they are my second favourite TES race. I still can't fully pity them because as a race they are xenophobic. If the Nords fled to Morrowind and sought refuge there. The Dunmer would treat the Nords or any other race the same way the Nords treat the elves or beast races. The Windhelm Dunmer's are getting a taste of their own medicine. But having said that, I <3 the dark elves.
