Re: Do you play Human,Mer or Beast race in Skyrim? Why?
Altmer, Imperial, and Orsimer, in that order. The first two representing some of the most interesting cultural archetypes transposed over from Earth history: the first an insular, hyperliterate, everlasting but hidebound Chinese archetype, the latter that timeless ideal of a global, civilizing imperium ala Rome. The Orsimer being interesting as an extreme barbaric contrast to the two great civilizations.
I also think Altmer and Imperials are interesting to play in Skyrim specifically since they are the stars of the most recent great political upheaval. It's easy to tie in aspects of the character's history with period lore, since the Great War ended shortly before the game begins.

In morrowind I really liked the beast races. They were different. Especially the way they walked. Then in Oblivion they made them much more human like.
I have always liked elf races too. But again, I don't really like how they look in oblivion or skyrim.. So I usually just pick Nord or Imperial in Skyrim. : )

Main characters only:
Morrowind - Nord, Dunmer, Breton, Argonian
Oblivion - Dunmer, Nord
Skyrim - Dunmer, Bosmer, Bosmer, Argonian, Breton
Makes 4 humans, 5 mer and 2 beasts all in all, which I guess is pretty balanced, but in Skyrim the elven races clearly predominate. Why? Hm, I guess it's because I'm human all day and I like to be something different once in a while (and believe me, I can totally get immersed into being a bipedal lizard who likes to swim and thinks the way his wife's scales glisten in candlelight is the sexiest thing in the world). Also, like other players who lost their virginity to Morrowind I fell in love with the rich Dunmer culture, hence I have to be a Dark-Elf at least once per game. And then I couldn't help myself making a Nerevarine who came from one of the slave races, hence my liking for Argonians (I like the Khajit as well, but haven't been able to get into them quite as much yet). Bosmer are an acquired taste, I think they were done right for the first time in Skyrim and I've come to like them very much now they've transcended the level of being Fargoth and whatsisname, the paranoid guy in Oblivion. Valenwood and Blackmarsh are the two provinces I would most like to see in the next game.
As for humans, Nord and Bretons are my preferred races as they reflect the cultures that fascinate me most in RL, Celts and Scandinavians. I've recently made an Imperial character, but haven't yet played him at any greater length, same with Khajiit and Altmer. Haven't made any Orcs or Redguards up to now, no idea why - I like them in the game, I just don't want to be them. Maybe it's because both are archetypically pure fighter races, and I like to play more strategically, complementing my fighting skills with magic or sneak; or what do I know.

Re: Do you play Human,Mer or Beast race in Skyrim? Why?
Though I've deliberately made some very attractive elves (yeah, I have a bishie elf guy...), I like that they're kind of bony and odd and sometimes rugged looking. I play mainly elves and beast races, I usually don't rank my favorites among them but I don't often play Orc characters unless they're a mage - I find it difficult not to play mages. Humans are okay I guess, I have a new Breton I quite like and I've had a Redguard as well (yep, both mages) but I'm pretty meh on Nords and Imperials.

After I played as a Nord. I never played as a human race again.
So bland and uninteresting, I'm certainly a mer at least twice in every game I've played, apart from Bosmer... Might give that a try one day.

Re: Do you play Human,Mer or Beast race in Skyrim? Why?
I tend to play human characters. Why? Because I prefer to play as humans. Why? No idea, probably because I am human myself, or something else silly along those lines. I play Nords more than the other humans.
Re: Do you play Human,Mer or Beast race in Skyrim? Why?
In skyrim? After installing SkyRe I play khajiit entirely because of the jumping/running/fall damage modifiers they got.
Previous games let me get high acrobatics and enable me to jump up buildings/walls/gates with ease and that was my style.
But generally I tend to favor Breton or something with bonuses in skills I didn't plan on using, a throw back to morrowinds idea of 'max level'.

100% beast race. I believe they represent me the most.

I've played as all three. Each and every race has a useful racial and passive ability if utilized correctly.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Do you play Human,Mer or Beast race in Skyrim? Why?
In Oblivion as well as Skyrim, I created a native to the land it was set in. I found it engaged me more with the main story if I was defending my home, especially in Skyrim, as a non nord Dragonborn just seems so wrong.
On the other hand, the alternate character in both games has been a Bosmer who avoids most factions as well as the main quest, and makes his own story. This character gets the greater share of my time and interest.
So I guess a bit of both, but a Bosmer at heart!
Perhaps one day there will be an ES game set in the Khajit or Argonian lands, and I'll try a beast race, but till then they hold no interest for me at all.

Re: Do you play Human,Mer or Beast race in Skyrim? Why?
Skyrim resurrected my love for Khajiit that Oblivion had oppressed due to their models and shared voice acting, now I enjoy a roster of characters predominately Khajiiti in origin.
I love their culture, their jovial nature in the face of adversary, and unique speech patterns/phrases
When I try to make any other race, I tend to miss the sight of a swishing tail out of my armor...

I have aways lived w/cats in the house so I naturally gravitated to being a Kahjiit. They are stealthy, too, and that's my norm. I just can't help laughing at that tail glitch when you die. I decided to try to be an orc last time I started from scrach. It did NOT turn out well.

Re: Do you play Human,Mer or Beast race in Skyrim? Why?
I tend to play the three equally. In Skyrim, it's easier for any race to be any build, and, I gotta say, I like not being as limited.
