Spartacus Legends
...While the servers are down, I thought to introduce the topic.
Free to play downloadable fighting game, on XBL Arcade and PSN. Train a school of gladiators, kick ass, buy more gear, kick more ass. Simple concept.
I only got to fight one match (in addition to the tutorial) so far, but it was a savory taste.

Whip 'em, then give 'em a sword. Best idea evah.
In a disassociated, semi-sociopathic context, I am reminded of this one last refrain of logic— courtesy of a jestful jaunt on the junkworld planet of Korlus in Mass Effect 2: "Who's the genius who gave them arms!?"
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Re: Spartacus Legends
Alright, gave the game a whirl and I must say... Wait for it...
The game lacks the kind of depth that a usual 8-Way-Run fighter needs. I found that a few horizontal attacks didn't connect when my opponent was side stepping and, as far as I could tell, there weren't any attacks or combos that you could get in while side stepping. Movement seems to bar me from playing extremely aggressive. Attacks vary as you move your character around, but I found the different attack variations really didn't matter unless you wanted to show off. The gameplay practically demands that you stay up close and personal if you want your moves to be more effective, which means that moving around to get a cool combo is not going to be top on your priority list, if at all. Of the combat styles I saw, I found that combat styles were not really balanced. A two handed sword swung just as fast as a one handed sword, but did more damage. The daggers were ridiculously fast and could easily finish opponents that let their guard down. The whole customization aspect of the game is underwhelming, you get to mess with the helmet, body armor, leg armor, weapon, and shield. Each piece of armor has different stats, but the stats on some weapons don't differ by much. Basically, you want to buy the best thing you can afford.
Now on to the business aspect of the game. It is free to play. First off, ew. Second off, ugh. Whoever made that decision sucks. The fact that it was free to play meant that not a lot of funding went into its development. Because with free to play, there is no guarantee that that most or all of the money you put into the game will come back as profit. And that shows, the micro transactions are a bit pricy in my opinion. Five bucks for fifty gold, ridiculous! And the gold goes fast, if you want the best fighter, you have to pay gold. If you want a different set of fighters to choose from at that moment, you have to pay gold. Now this point is debatable, you want the best equipment that 'unlocks' a few levels later, you have to pay gold. I may be biased here, but the game's micro transactions are a big failure for an already mediocre game. At least the micro transactions are not barring me from playing game content, like arenas or entire cities. So that is a plus.
After playing it and seeing what the game has to offer, I'm not impressed. And here is the big moment! This game is not worth my time.

Downloaded it a few days ago. I enjoy it, but the combat is hard.

Re: Spartacus Legends
I'm finding that the bots are like totally immune to some combos, but totally vulnerable to others. If you're fighting a hammer or 2h sword fella, use a sword and shield. Spam --> + Y. They can't handle it. They sidestep it sometimes, block it kinda often, but its range is kinda OP, and it's strong. I don't like using it that often. Kinda cheating.

I downloaded it, but I can't seem to connect to the remote services. I really want to play it!

Re: Spartacus Legends
I can't either. It's a meh game anyway. It's clunky, the one actor in it has the dumbest lines, and it's the same fight over and over again. For a free game though, I'd say it's worth it. At least you have nothing to lose.

I'll try and attack, and instead I'll get caught mid attack and get spammed with fast attacks.Baloth-Kul wrote:I'm finding that the bots are like totally immune to some combos, but totally vulnerable to others. Re: Spartacus Legends
I just started this, and it might be fun if dual sword people weren't so overpowered. Enemies can kill you with one combo, and they block almost everything.
Nothing is true, everything is permitted.
