Yeah they explain it in detail during the raid on the Cerberus base. I think it's right before you the fight through the Human-Reaper's remains.

Re: Mass Effect
The choices you make don't really match up to the consequences in a logical way. It is kind of gamey rather than acting like a real world. You get the best stuff for full Paragon or full Renegade. If you can't tell I'm not fond of the Paragon/Renegade system.
Also it isn't lack of choices or "sadness" that makes the ending of 3 bad. The ending just makes no [&@%!] sense. And almost all of the problems have to do with that bloody god child. It also had problems with not telling you what happened to your friends but the extended cut did fix that.

So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Re: Mass Effect
Why do people call a hologram a god child? It's a freaking robot dude, just like everything else. It's an AI. It built Harbinger using it's parameters for preserving life from synthetic life by making it synthetic life. They even explain it's origin in Leviathan.

People call it a god child because it's a massive deus ex machina.

Why is it a child? Did they explain that in the Leviathan dlc or did I just miss something?
The indoctrination theory was also so perfect. I still believe that's what happened.

I don't like the indoctrination theory either. It was all a dream is such a [&@%!] ending. You could have had anything happen and explain it away with indoctrination.

Which, if you actually played Leviathan, was made officially null. No point in calling it a god-child anymore.Knight Captain Kerr wrote:People call it a god child because it's a massive deus ex machina.
And that indoctrination theory is just something deluded fans want yo use. It's a child because Ea sucks at writing and thought that showing Shepard the same thing of his dreams was a good idea.

Re: Mass Effect
@Kerr: I loved it. I do admit, the "it was all the dream" endings suck, but there were so many clues that made it look like he was indoctrinated! Best thing bioware could've done, in my opinion, was to have the indoctrination ending up untill you meet the Catalyst and do the choice. Once the credits roll out, they get interrupted and Shepard wakes up and does the actual good ending.

Re: Mass Effect
That would be bad, Nova. Not only is it very cliche, it also gives EA a reason to have bad writing when every they want. It's as bad as using Dragon Breaks to explain everything that makes no sense.

Hmmm... I'm not sure. I swear I remember a small girl from ME2, but I doubt she exists. Yeah, he probably is the only kid.

Re: Mass Effect
The game codex indicates that it is very possible to create an AI without the need for Reaper tech. You need a quantum blue box and the time/money to educate it. EDI had Reaper tech bolted in to give her an edge against the Collectors. The one thing holding back AI development is Council law— then again, Cerberus is no Scout troop.Br3admax wrote:Not true. EDI was simply a VI until Cerberus added Reaper tech to her. She may have been very advance, but she was not true intelligence just yet.
A gambling computer on the Citadel grew into a sapient AI in ME1. Didn't need Sovereign's guts to achieve that.

Re: Mass Effect
Isn't she based off that "VI" which is really an AI that begged for it's life in binary from the Luna mission in Mass Effect 1?

Re: Mass Effect
The point still stands, and as EDI is not a person, adding to her programming dramatically will make them two separate entities.

Re: Mass Effect
Just going to revive this thread with a little question: has anyone read the books? Frankly, I can't quite get enough of the Mass Effect universe. I know they are working on another game, but I can't wait that long. So I've gone ahead and ordered the first novel (Revelation) from Amazon. Reviews are fairly positive (they are a lot more positive than the reviews on the TES books anyway), but I'm interested if any of you guys have read them.

I have read one of the books, but I can't remember it's name now. I believe it was the second Mass Effect book by Drew Kapryshan (spelling?)

I've read most of them, my favourite one (not sure of the title) is the one with Saren and Anderson.Abel wrote:Just going to revive this thread with a little question: has anyone read the books? Good enough that both my Shepard and I own a copy. It adds a lot to the setting and explains ME3 more.

Re: Mass Effect
The original's story is great but the gameplay can be a bit grating.
My advice; abuse the pistols. Pistols are OP in the original game.

Re: Mass Effect
Grating is an understatement. When compared to 2 and especially 3, ME1 is downright unplayable from a gameplay point of view. The combat is ridiculously clunky feeling, and the Mako missions...oh the mako missions. Blech
2 was a bit better but still not great. The gameplay in ME3 however was about as smooth as it gets. Especially the multiplayer

Uno, ME2 is among my absolute favourite games ever. Can't comment on how it compares to 1, having never played it, but while the combat in 3 probably is better, I think 2 is a better game overall.
