Surviving the Dead: Africa

Surviving the Dead

Introduction

Ah, Africa...

The Circle of Life and all... It's a beautiful thing.

Then nature had to go and ruin it, when humankind began to eat itself to death.

Self Cannibalism? No! I'm talking about something a little worse. Dead people, eating other people, to death.

"How do dead people eat people?" you ask, "Or do anything, in that matter?"

I'm here to tell you that... you don't know. I do. Know. I do know. You don't, and most likely won't, unless you join this Rp, of course. And even then, you may not.
You will be starting off in the middle of a tour/safari in the deeper parts of Africa. You may have any kind of character you want. If your character wouldn't be the kind of person to go on a safari or afford one, just put that to the side when you post up your character sheet, and I will find a way for you to get on, unless you can think of one by yourself.

Information

S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

I am stealing the special section from Fallout:

S.P.E.C.I.A.L.- You will be able to distribute 40 points. Cap is 10, lowest is 1. They will not affect your skills.
STRENGTH
Melee and Unarmed Damage, Big Guns. Also, the ability to carry more weight than others

PERCEPTION
Explosives, lock picking, and the ability to detect things others cannot.

ENDURANCE
Health, Survival, Big guns, and the ability to go through more pain than others

CHARISMA
Speech, Barter, and the ability to be liked more than others

INTELLIGENCE
Medicine, Repair

AGILITY
Small Guns, Sneak, Nonfirearm projectiles, and the ability to be more agile

LUCK
Luck... Just Luck

Hunger and Thirst

I will begin and end days occasionally. It will take five days to die of dehydration, but it will affect you the days you go without water.
Day 1: -1 Endurance
Day 2: -2 Endurance -1 Perception
Day 3: -3 Endurance -2 Perception -1 Intelligence
Day 4: -4 Endurance -3 Perception -2 Intelligence -1 Agility
Day 5: DEATH

It will take ten days to die without food.
Day 1: -1 Strength
Day 2: -1 Strength
Day 3: -2 Strength -1 Charisma
Day 4: -2 Strength -1 Charisma
Day 5: -3 Strength -2 Charisma
Day 6: -3 Strength -2 Charisma
Day 7: -3 Strength -2 Charisma -1 Perception
Day 8: -4 Strength -3 Charisma -1 Perception
Day 9: -5 Strength -4 Charisma -2 Perception
Day 10: DEATH

Traits

You will be allowed to accept three traits while making your character(s)

Rapid Reload- All of your weapon reloads are faster than normal, but you will sometimes twitch and drop a magazine or rounds.
Hunter- More damage against animals, less against living humans, same against undead.
Demolition Expert- More damage with explosives, -2 agility
Cowboy- More damage done by dynamite, hatchets, knives, revolvers, and lever-action guns. Anything past the time of a cowboys conjures considerably less damage.
Animal Friend- Hostile animals become friendly, and come to your aid against enemies except against other animals, charisma -2
Night Person- +2 Intelligence and +2 Perception between 6:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M., -1 Intelligence and -1 Perception in the day
Silent Running- Running no longer factors into a successful sneak attempt, -2 Endurance
Pyromaniac- More damage with fire and incendiary weapons, and black powder guns, considerably less with nonfirearm weapons
Jury Rigging- Repair any item using a roughly similar item, all items you make are slightly less prone to breaking or jamming
Weapon Handling - +2 strength with weapon requirements, slightly less accurracy
Paralyzing Palm- Can paralyze an enemy for 30 seconds an unarmed attack, Luck -2
Ninja- More damage with Non projectile firearms, less damage with firearms
Slayer- More speed with melee weapons, less damage

Death

There is a good chance you will die. When this happens, you may start a new character. Unfortunately, you would be away from the group when you first take control of you character.

So, here's what happens: Once you die, you make a new character. Your new character will be separated from the group. But no need to fear! Your new character will be started out in anyplace you please, maybe somewhere near the main group.

I have a couple reasons that this rp is easy to die in, which I personally think are very reasonable:

The major one concerns the setting and plot of the rp. You are in an apocalypse. The very definition of apocalypse is: "any universal or widespread destruction or disaster." You are going through a disaster--widespread destruction. I'm not talking about 'you failed the semester' disaster, I mean 'people are dying, and trying to eat you disaster.'

Surviving, by definition, is "to continue to live after the death, cessation, or occurrence of something." So yes, the goal of this rp is to survive, which means not dying. So, what would be the point of an Rp that's goal was to not die, if it would be near impossible to die?

Safety and New Games

There will be decisions you make that could lead to life in a secure environment (prison, test lab, or even a safe haven) If you ever want to leave your character at one of these times, you may, and you will start anywhere you want in Africa. When you fall into a safe haven, don't be ashamed to start a new character, you pretty much completed the game of "surviving." If there is a problem in the safe haven, I will tell you when you request a new game due to a safe haven.

Even if there is a problem in the safe haven, I will let you start a new game. But, if you are literally on death's door, where a zombie bit you, or a bullet is coming your way, don't ask for a new character. Have a nice death, and then make a new character.

Living only, please.

And is everyone sure that they want it to occur in Africa?

If so, am I doing something wrong?

I deliberately left him vague and didn't include the part about family and loved ones as they will most likely never appear in the RP (they live in Tehran). I also don't want to include his family as I want to keep his past vague. If I really must include his family then I will add them later.

I most likely won't be starting the RP with everyone else. As already mentioned I have enough RPs at the moment. I'm putting this up so I can be quickly accepted and then be able to easily jump into the RP at a time of my choosing. Of course this all depends on when the RP actually starts. If it starts within the next three weeks there's not a chance of me starting with the group but if it was RP start say mid June I may start with everyone else as I'll be off school and have more free time (that and I can't remember moving particularly fast last time.)

i think you mean more prone to breaking, cause otherwise, this is a double positive, so a perk and not a trait.

also, i might join this, but im still thinking of what i want to play as... not sure yet... dont know much about Africa...
thinking of playing as a character who only speaks Arabic.

I doubt you'll need to know much about the continent of Africa. It's a zombie RP. That and I suspect that most characters will be foreigners and will be ignorant of the place anyway. Your ignorance just makes it easier to stay in character. I myself know very little about Africa.

Edit: If anyone wants to start with my character PM me. Be his business partner or something else.

You need to start like I said, unless you join late. Getting everyone in a group together is going to be a lot harder in Africa. Though, if you want to break off from the group, you may.

Starting Karma (Very good, good, neutral, bad, very bad): Neutral
Background: Tyrone was born into a moderately rich family, and from a young age developed a love for big cats. When he was 8, he and his father went on a trip, far into the open plains, and found a heavily bleeding lion which he cared for. They became inseparable, and spent many years together at the zoo. One day, Tyrone met a boy names Sora who lived in Abuja for quite some time. They became close friends, and kept in contact ever since. Unfortunately, Simba, the lion that Tyrone cared for, died when Tyrone was 24.
After a while of silence, Sora and Tyrone decided to go on a Safari trip together.

Shadow, you are perfect.

Nova, actually, all the points should add up to 40. And could you maybe put the subtraction signs like Shadow did when it comes to subtracting points from SPECIAL.

I assume I'm accepted since you haven't said otherwise?

I also have two quick questions.
1.What country are we starting in?
2.What date does it start on? Real world events are important to my characters backstory so I need to know.

Re: Surviving the Dead: Africa

That didn't really answer my question.

Where abouts are these 'deeper parts' of Africa. The continent is over 11 million miles in area there's bound to be a few. I'm not asking for an exact location just a country.

I realise that my second question was slightly vague. What I meant is what is the in game date that the RP will start on. A year will be fine for now. I can worry about Ramadan starting and such when the RP starts but for my characters backstory to make sense I need to know the year. Parts of his backstory are based heavily off of real world events.

I'm also going to continue to assume I'm accepted. I'm correct in that assumption? Right?

That wasn't answering the questions, I know. Sorry. You aren't accepted just yet. The text in the quote was me explaining to you that you go to Africa because of a Safari, and if you can't find a way to incorporate it, you need to tell me.

Kareem won free tickets to go on the safari and decided it would be a waste not to use them.

Or thats the reason I'm using for why he decided to go. Though that's if I'm starring on the start date with everybody else. All depends when the RP starts. I may have to start late.

Alright. It is present day.

EDIT:
I figured out a more accurate starting point. You will be on a boat in the Congo River, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

You will be on this tour, in case you wanted to read up on it. It will be starting in the morning of Day 7, after visiting the Lokutu Oil Palm Plantation.
