Re: Bethesda Patch Discussion - Console and PC
Hmm, strange. Question then: does the USP update automatically like the official patches, or do you have to install it manually? The restoration exploit has been fixed as of patch 1.9. Drinking FR potions and re-equipping your apparel to make a stronger potion is no longer an option with this latest patch.
Answer:
This was fixed in the Unofficial Skyrim Patch version 1.3.0. The official patch didn't touch this.
The reason why I'm asking this is because I KNOW for a fact that I have not intentionally installed ANY USP's - and I cannot get the exploit to work since updating to 1.9. No matter what I do the percentage of the alchemical apparel stays the same (and no, I did not forget the "take off-take on" detail)
A little help, please.

If you subscribe to the unofficial patches on Steam, they automatically update like any other mod. But it sounds like you haven't subscribed to them.
Google seems to turn up a few other people with the same issue, though not as many as I'd expect if it were actually fixed by the patch. Also, it's not listed in the patch notes as far as I can tell.

As Marelo mentioned, the unofficial patches update automatically if you subscribed to them on Steam. That would be my explanation as to why it's not working for you anymore.
I just checked it myself to make sure that what I said is accurate. Disabled the unofficial patches, gave myself an Elixir of the Healer (50% Fortify Restoration) and drank it. Novice Hood went from +30 Magicka to +45 Magicka, Novice Robes from 50% Magicka Regen to 75% Magicka Regen. Installed official patch was 1.9.32.0.8

I'll test it as well...
ETA - Haven't tested the glitch yet, but fortify restoration potions still affect enchants in patch 1.9.

Why did fortify restoration potions affect enchantments anyway?CBR JGWRR wrote:I'll test it as well...

Because all the skill enhancements on gear are classified as restoration effects.Ri'Zahr wrote:Why did fortify restoration potions affect enchantments anyway?CBR JGWRR wrote:I'll test it as well...

The Unofficial patch fixed it.Ri'Zahr wrote:That does not make any sense. That needs to be changed.
Beth usually doesn't see the point of fixing this kind of stuff in the Official patch unless it causes problems for people who aren't trying to use the exploit.

And why is that? Personally, I think it's a waste of resources if they invest their time in fixing something that doesn't even affect the player, unless he decides to actively use it. That time is better spent on fixing the huge list of bugs that affect a lot of players.Ri'Zahr wrote:That is why they patched the Oghma Inf. glitch right?SuperNull wrote:Beth usually doesn't see the point of fixing this kind of stuff in the Official patch unless it causes problems for people who aren't trying to use the exploit. If they are going to patch one exploit, they should patch them all.

Not really. It makes perfect sense, they are fortify skill or fortify attribute spells. Same thing, just in the form of an Enchant. No difference except in how it's used and the duration. Same magic school, same effect, same caster...

It is possible to stumble into this one, actually. If you use effects that fortify restoration in order to actually fortify your restoration for some reason, it will augment basically all of your gear, which may feel like unintentional cheating.Belthazor wrote:And why is that? But I use the Unofficial Patch, so meh!

Re: Bethesda Patch Discussion - Console and PC
Like CBR JGWRR said, it only affects your enchanted gear if you equip it while under the influence of a Fortify Restoration potion. It doesn't affect gear that you have already equipped. If you don't do that intentionally, what are the odds that you want to equip an item while you're trying to boost your healing spells with a potion?Marelo wrote:It is possible to stumble into this one, actually. Mostly I've encountered this problem when using a mod that switches the alchemy and enchanting "fortify school" effects, so that the enchanted gear increases power.Belthazor wrote:Like CBR JGWRR said, it only affects your enchanted gear if you equip it while under the influence of a Fortify Restoration potion. Mods aren't base game, though, and not Bethesda's concern, so you're right.

This is what I wanna know, and I come here to read people arguing about the Restoration potion exploit.sinister wrote:When will 1.9 come to Xbox?
Someone have any ideas about it ? The patch is a beta patch correct ? Maybe that means that they wanna finish it and make sure it works correctly before releasing it to consoles - PC is just what they're testing it on.
There's my two cents about it.

The patch has been out of beta for about a week, I think. Probably still has to go through QA from Microsoft and Sony before it's released on the consoles.mcjordalini wrote:The patch is a beta patch correct ?

Re: Bethesda Patch Discussion - Console and PC
Yes, definitely out of Beta on PC. I'm not subscribed to Skyrim Beta participation via Steam, and Steam updated Skyrim anyway, which it only does when a patch is officially released (out of Beta). In fact, Skyrim was updated TWICE this time, first to v.1.9.21.0.8 and then the next day to v1.9.32.0.8. So they released patch v1.9, then probably realised there was a bug they'd missed (or they'd created one) and quickly re-released again. So if they can fix a bug in ONE day, why don't we get 100 bug fixes if it's been 100 days since the last patch? After more than a year, the game should be pretty well bug-free by now, but it STILL has hundreds of bugs without the Unofficial Skyrim Patch mod installed. Way to support your flagship game, Bethesda. Too s.l.o.w.
And as I've mentioned, the latest unannounced change which puts a stop to PC players increasing the LOD distance beyond the default 5 cells (uGridsToLoad=5) has stopped me playing Skyrim. I've gone back to playing Morrowind after some 5 years absence. At least Morrowind is 11 years old, is no longer officially supported by Bethesda, and Unofficial Patches, mod managers, script/graphics extenders, and fix mods are all mature. The game is now just about as bug-free on PC as the modding community can make it without access to the game's source code and, on a decent gaming rigs, looks almost as good as Oblivion.
Shame it's taken a decade or so to get there, though. And not by Bethesda's efforts, but by the modding community's sterling efforts. Oblivion has taken over 6 years to mature, in the same way. I fully expect the same will be true of Skyrim, and any future Bethesda games. 11 years of history repeating itself tends to suggest it will CONTINUE repeating itself.
