Update 1.9 beta on steam!

Merged with "Patch Discussion Thread"

Believe.
You all better stop selling crafting materials to vendors!
You'll be able to re-level crafting skills from 15 to 100 over and over and over.........

This will make the Black Star also infinitely more valuable.
After every enchanting reset you can go out and kill stuff and recharge your weapon after every kill for enchanting skill progression.

Who ever sells crafting materials, apart from gems, to vendors?

Mauin - if you invested with him, he got 10k rather than the 500 he was supposed to get. One of the best bugs I know of in any videogame IMO...

Besides more replay value... what's the point of this? To make your character less powerful?

New difficulty setting and Legendary skills

Post by DikaSmausha »

Patch 1.9 came out today. A new difficulty mode was added called Legendary. Has anyone played it yet?
Also, you can reset skills when they reach 100. Discuss.

i usually check uesp forums every other day for stuff like that, by scrolling through the threads, so that would be helpful.
If it's any referring to Redguard I've made a thread about it a month or two ago. If not then I agree.

I usually don't sell ore, ignots or gems. I have about 500-700 of each now. I can't bring myself to sell things so shiny.

So if I reset a skill do I lose the cap # or does it stay 81 then rise as I relearn my reset skill?

Stay same level, regain the perk points, then rerises like normal.

In essence, it moves the level cap from 81.5 ish to having no theoretical limit.

I really don't see the point of reseting skills. Why work so hard to only start over again and weaken yourself? :|

I doubt it.

The only really easy skill to level is alchemy via the fortify restoration glitch, and then speech by selling the potions.

By level 1000, maxing a few skills out to 100 would be like doing level 15-16 in a single skill for level 81 is now...

Archer - because you gain another perk point levelling up. (eventually)

No need to weaken yourself either, since the skills you reset don't have to be combat ones.

I would hope it would let you go past 100 in the skill when the number resets. Why have a level 200 warrior character with level 4 one or two handed?

There still would be a limit to how many perks you can use.

Once your character has no perk slots left to fill there really isnt anywhere to go from there.

So, level 81 PCs werent powerful enough for you, now you got your perked-up roid-rage Dovakhin! Kinda meh, unless Bethy keeps droppin new skill trees on us.
I like having different characters accessing different trees/perks over maxed out PCs.

Re:Legendary difficulty. Amping up enemy stats is nowhere near as fun as fighting enemies with amped-up AI/behavior.

Not really. If you took the time to get to level 251, you deserve to have every perk available to you.

I think the point of it is to be able to keep raising your health/magic/stamina. Not sure though, but that's all I can come up with

PS - after reading all of the bug fixes, I'm starting to wonder if they are almost done with skyrim. That was a pretty comprehensive list of bugs that they fixed.

Might they be done with new DLC and are getting it ready for the game of the year edition?

Who was really calling out for this kind of change? I've rarely heard anyone gripe about not being able to grab all perks in one playthrough.

Bethy should add one new skill tree each to Warrior, Mage, and Thief to make this change really worthwhile.

I don't think this next DLC will be the last, I think we'll have one more big one after Redguard before we're done. But what do I know.

Really? He's usually one of the first NPC's I invest with, and I've never seen him get 10k gold. Before I modded it, anyway. And before I got the unofficial patches. Maybe it was too long ago for me to remember, but I've never heard of that happening until now.

In regards to the ability to make skills "legendary" to reset them, it probably is to get more magicka/health/stamina points as Soda Popinksi said. Honestly though, unless you poorly planned your character and didn't allocate your stat points very well (and if that were the case, I'd be restarting the character), I doubt that would make much of a difference. I find a good 300/500/300 distribution is more than enough to get by with a mix of spells, stealth, and combat. Add enchantments onto that and you're golden. I can see those not wanting to use enchanting or alchemy skills possibly finding it useful, but I still don't think I'll find any use for it.

It's like I said: power-leveling once is enough. If you have the patience to do that more than once, then kudos, because there's no bloody way I could do it...

Although, actually, I think a mod like the Scroll of Perfection might be useful there. Is there a limit on the number of skills you can reset? If there isn't, then you could potentially reset all the skills, then use a mod to push them back to 100 again. And keep going. And going. And going.

Even if you did do that fairly (by leveling it all normally), it still seems horribly game breaking. You'd wind up with one immortal Dragonborn. I wonder, then, if Legendary difficulty was added to try and "balance" that out? Maybe not. I dunno.

Edit:
Come to think of it, that's probably why the Oghma Infinium was patched; to prevent console players (and PC players who don't use mods) from abusing that too far.

The patch is great. Allows for great role-play ability as warriors don't have to grind conjuration and alteration and vice-versa now. It also can reward those who want to be a defined class, or reward those who want to be a master at everything. Good feature to have.

It's slightly annoying that they've fixed Lucan and his 10k gold, and the Oghma Infinium though.

His bonus money got took out with the unofficial patch.

The thing is, it would take an eternity even with mods to get to high enough levels to achieve an immortal dragonborn, so it's sort of balanced.
