Just posting this in case anyone else is experiencing this and hasn't heard.
A recent Windows update (KB5124010) is causing Oblivion and some other older games to crash when trying to load a saved game or even start a new game. Uninstalling that update will let Oblivion run normally again.

I didn't want to install the mod, so I just uninstalled the offending Windows update and paused Windows Update for now.
